Good Place to Stay in Boston

Review Submitted: November 25, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Great apartment and hosts were realy helpful. We could walk to shops and restaurants and for $15 we got unlimited travel on the trains and buses for 7days - well worth it with the T station only 3 min walk. you dont need a car!

We got there late at night from the UK so we got the key from a lock box on the porch - remember to take a torch to see the numbers. Also take a laptop or notebook to connect to the web for all that tourist info stuff - internet access is provided.

Good location and we felt perfectly safe walking around the location

My family of 4 stayed in the arthouse for a few days while touring schools for my son. The house was perfect for us. It was very clean, well stocked, and the furnishings were lovely! It is well located, especially if you are not familiar with the area. We will hopefully have the opp. to stay there again if our son is accepted to Berklee! The owners were extremely nice and helpful with offering ideas of places to visit during our stay in Boston. I hesitate to tell you how great this place is, I think I would rather keep it as our little Boston secret, but it is too nice not to share!

As a frequent traveler I am always staying in hotels. When I'm in an area for an extended period of time I like to look for alternatives to hotels. During my last stay in Boston I found the perfect hotel substitute. The Arthouse has everything you look for in a vacation home. It is conveniently located near a variety of restaurants and shops, including one of my favorite new coffee/sandwich/pastry/all around awesome shops in the Boston area, Ula Cafe. I love being able to walk to coffee in the morning, and Ula is literally a half a block away (if you like to brew your own coffee, the Arthouse has a great bean grinding coffee maker as well). You're a quick train or cab ride from downtown and copley square, without being overwhelmed with the congestion of the city. The place itself is beautiful and very modern. The kitchen is great (which we utilized quite a bit). The living room and bedrooms are spacious. The beds are very comfortable. The unit has free high-speed wireless internet. Which is essential for someone like myself. It has everything you could ask for in a temporary rental and more. In addition, the owners of the property are very helpful with any questions you might have about dining, entertainment, or anything else you might need assistance with. If you are ever in the Boston area and looking for a pleasant and unique stay, the Arthouse really is the ideal hotel alternative. I hope to be back!

Our family consisting of my husband and our 2 kids (ages 3 and 0) stayed at the Arthouse for a week in October 2009. We hadn't been back to Boston for several years and was amazed at the change to this area. We felt perfectly safe, and we were within walking distance of a trendy cafe, an upscale pizza place, and a gourmet grocery. The unit itself could not be more ideal for families. It was extremely clean and had plenty of room for our toddler and baby. It was furnished in an elegant and efficient style and all the furniture and appliances were in like-new shape. There were even some age appropriate toys that our kids enjoyed. The location is excellent, and we had no problem with on-street parking (though if you do park on the street, be sure to note the street cleaning days which are clearly marked by signs. We saw cars getting towed.) If your Boston destinations lie along the T (subway) routes, you don't even really need a car. Among our favorite extra amenities, we particularly appreciated the fast wifi connection, the provided beans and coffee grinder to make a decent pot of coffee in the morning, all the bath necessities that one might need, the deceptively ample washer and dryer, and the close proximity to take out places that deliver (great garlic rotisserie chicken from Alex's Chimis, especially handy in rainy weather!) The hosts were unobtrusive and responsive to our requests and had left out helpful guides and notes about the area.
For our next trip to Boston, we'll definitely check availability at the Arthouse as a prerequisite to our stay. I would recommend this unit without hesitation to any of our friends and family. There are a couple of stairs to get into the unit that might be a bit challenging for some--they are clearly shown in the picture, and there are no additional stairs to enter the unit as the unit is on the first floor.

Great stay in JP.

Review Submitted: August 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We just returned from a five week stay at this property and had a great time. It's very conveniently located near a train station, which we used to go everywhere we wanted to go. The condo itself is very comfortable with all the stuff you need to cook in if you'd like to. Beds and furniture are very, very comfortable, including the couch, which my daughter and I slept on for two weeks while my mother was there with us! The owners are just wonderful people too. Loved JP - lots of rebuilding going on. Ula Cafe right down the street for morning coffee, and Bella Luna right there for great lunches and dinner. We'll be back!!

I cannot imagine a better deal in Boston...

This place is just like a home away from home. Seriously. It has every convenience you could ask for (full, well equipped kitchen, W/D, linens, flat screen TV, wifi) and TONS of space. Its very clean and crisp in its interior decoration and, although we couldn't make much use of it during our very rainy stay, a beautiful private garden. The place is hyper convenient to the "T" and excellent food (Ten Tables, Canto 6) is just a short walk away through a charming neighborhood. All of this - yet it is SO inexpensive for Boston.

I had a wonderful stay here. So much better than a cold, corporate hotel. Christine and Will were lovely and handled everything with great care. The apartment was spotless and had everything I needed. It's very quiet as well and close to so many things in JP-Christine gave me great directions to a local grocery store and other local cafes. I've traveled a lot and stayed in many different places..this was definitely one of my favorites.

A fun weekend in Boston and easy to access!

Our stay at Arthouse was wonderful (my husband and I and our two young children, ages 4 and 2)! If we decide on another trip back, we will gladly stay there again! The hosts were available if we needed anything and very friendly, wish we had more time to chat with them.
It was fun to stay in a renovated space that is still in an area that is developing. I grew up nearby and am blow away by the changes in the neighborhood. Parking was easy, the beds were comfortable and the cherry and almond scones were just a stone's throw away at nearby Ula Cafe. Had we had the opportunity, we would have checked out the brewery and restaurant too. The condo was spacious and easy to find ourselves at home. I went running in the am along the SW corridor, enjoyed others going for bike-rides and dog walks. We loved the fact that Stonybrook T stop was a 3 minute walk from the condo. We spent an entire day in Boston and using the T was fantastic (we are NYers so really appreciate mass transit). If you do not mind a changing neighborhood and love green space and urban digs, this is the place for you! Fun to be in JP for the weekend. We spent two days heading to all sorts of attractions: Contemporary Art Museum, Children's Museum, Swan Boats, Harbor Cruise, North End, downtown, public gardens, Harvard Square and Toscaninis Icecream and it was so easy to get around. Nothing was more than a 10-15 minute drive or a quick subway ride. Thank you to our hosts! Really enjoyed our visit and the apartment! We will be back!

The home was really welcoming and beautiful, and Will, the owner, was friendly and very helpful. We had frequent emails before and after the visit, and he met us (saved us a street spot!) when we arrived. The apartment is spacious with plenty of room for our whole family, and conveniently around the corner from the T (orange line, Stony Brook) and this cool converted brewery that had a nice coffee place and pizza bar. We mostly drove for events downtown or in Cambridge, and the house was never more than 15 min from anywhere. The street was quiet and parking was never hard. The apartment had everything we needed: full kitchen, washer/dryer, sleeping for 5 (2 kids), easy temperature control, privacy, etc. The owners were attentive, nice and very accommodating. They immediately supplied us with anything we needed, even furniture! Some times of the day the main living room is a little dark, but the bedrooms got plenty of natural light. We definitely plan to call Will the next time our family comes to Boston.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We enjoyed having you. As we are new to this we were unsure what to expect but the experience so far has been outstanding and people really seem to love the location.

We're on our 4th guest now and so far so good! We hope to see you and your family again in the near future. Maybe we could work out a "frequent flyer" discount. Have a great summer.
