Centre Point House Apartments

FOB, FBDT Dublin Ireland
Review Submitted: November 30, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Our theatre company stayed in seven of Si James apartments at Centre Point House in October-November 2009. Each of the apartments was individually decorated but all were very pleasant, bright, clean, warm, comfortable and spacious. The location is excellent. Highly recommended.

Owner's Response: Many thanks to all cast, crew and producers of Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, Dublin and staff at English National Opera for the bookings. Even our caretaker said "you have really nice people staying in your flats". He has been at the building for nearly 40 years, and if he says this he really means it. Come again, anytime!

In the Heart of London

If you wish to discover Life in London it is not better choice as live here. Appartements are really the top class and you feel after short time like at home. it is really difficult to leave this place although you know that your family and your home are waiting for you.

St Giles High Street at Tottenham Court Tube

This place is terrific. I go to London 3-4 times a year, but on this trip my wife was going for the first time, so we wanted a big convenient place to stay. My wife loved it, and she's hard to please when it comes to accommodations. The 2BR apartment was huge, with one king bed (actually two joined twins), and another bedroom with two twins. Perfect for family with kids. Two bathrooms (second with toilet/sink) on same floor between bedrooms. Plenty of closet/storage space. Very clean. Large BR has small TV that only gets 4 channels. No TV in smaller (twin) BR.

First floor has full kitchen with everything provided, large living room with dining area. Big TV gets about 75+ channels. My wife goes to bed early and is sensitive to noise, but she couldn't hear a thing when I stayed up with the TV on downstairs. Balcony is very nice, but there is considerable construction all around the area (Sept 2009) which will probably last for the next two years, so it can be noisy. However all rooms have double sets of windows (including sliding door to balcony), which when closed eliminate virtually all noise at any time of day or night.

Secure building with push button access codes and good elevators.

Excellent location, a two minute (block and a half) walk to Tottenham Court Road tube station, at intersection of Central and Northern Lines, at the east end of Oxford Street shopping district. If you want to shop Oxford St you should just take the tube to Marble Arch (1 mile), Bond St (2/3 mile) or Oxford Circus (1/3 mile) and walk a straight line back to the apartments. Of course many surface busses run the full length of Oxford St.

Leicester Square theatre/restaurant district is a 5-7 minute walk south on Charing Cross Rd. Loads of book stores on Charing Cross, as well as a couple of internet cafes that charge only one pound ($1.65) an hour. Keep walking another 5 minutes to Trafalgar Square. HINT: If you want to get on the Piccadilly Line of the Underground, it only takes 5 minutes to walk to Leicester Sq station, rather than taking the Northern Line to Leicester and then changing trains. From Leicester Sq it's only another 5 minute walk westerly to Piccadilly Circus.

Several currency exchange places on Oxford within a few blocks to the west, and they give the best rates in town. Large Sainsbury supermarket is a couple hundred yards up Tottenham Court Rd. Use apartment kitchen to save many hundreds of dollars.

A great place to stay.

This property provides everything listed in the description and more! Located in the heart of Central London we were able to walk to all of the major attractions from the condo.
The property is very clean and well maintained. Simon was helpful in every regard. The WIFI worked throughout our visit without problem. Having paid 30 pounds for wifi access at a hotel near the airport, this was a nice touch. The kitchen is well equipped and has new modern appliances. (the split dishwasher allowed us to run smaller loads daily) The laundry facilities were handy to the apartment and the room was VERY clean and proper. We were provided all the supplies you could need for cleaning including dishwasher, clothes and dish detergents In spite of the construction going on in the vicinity of the property, we were not disturbed by noise. Situated one minute from the Tottenham Court Road Tube station you have access to all of London quickly. We purchased weekly passes for the Tube (25 pounds per adult) and purchased non-peak daily passes for our daughter at 1 pound per day. We admit to some trepidation about renting this condo having read the comments from the disgruntled guest. Frankly, we don't understand their comments. Simon was helpful in suggesting local restaurants and was available to solve any problem we had (none). If you are looking for nice, clean accomodations where you can walk to the grocery store for groceries and have shopping outside your door along with 10 theatres within a 10 minute walk this is the place for you. If you are looking for a quiet, serene setting...don't be going to central London! Our family had a marvellous week in the condo. We will unreservedly recommend this property to friends and family who are traveling to London and are looking for affordable excellent accomodations.

This apartment absolutely made our stay in London a great vacation. The location is great with easy access to everything either by walking or tube. Plenty of room for us in the apartment (2 couples). Si was easy to deal with and helpful. This is so much better than staying in a hotel and the cost is less than many London hotels! If you want a pleasant stay in London and a place to relax along with a great location, rent this apartment!

Worried renter seeks to cancel but glad we didn't!

Andi & Ian Toronto, Canada
Review Submitted: January 28, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
My family booked a Christmas stay before seeing all the guest reviews. I was VERY worried what I’d find on arrival especially as I was hosting a festive dinner party. We were into the 60-day no cancellation period but I phoned the company for reassurance, or to see if I could possibly cancel after what I read. I was told we were going in the exact same unit the reviewer had stayed - all alternatives were fully booked for Christmas. However the Agent spent over an hour covering the points raised, was neither rude nor unprofessional (quite the opposite) and handled my call with the best customer service I’ve had all year! This included an unconditional offer – if we didn’t like the unit on arrival we could leave without paying a dime! Nothing was charged to our credit card beforehand. On arrival the agent let us in VERY early (before 8am) and I inspected the apartment ... I have to say it was delightful and totally as advertised, though better than photographed, with newer furniture/soft furnishings/TV, etc. Throughout the stay: NOISE: some construction noise as the area is receiving a major facelift (all for the good if you are coming in future); LAUNDRY: 1 washer out of order but we had access to 3 working washers and 4 dryers free of charge, and free detergent! COOKING PANS: kitchen had more than a standard holiday rental in terms of pots, pans, utensils. Agent further assured me we would be recompensed if we needed to buy any extras; DINING FURNITURE: no shortages of furniture - easily got 6 people round the dining table - more by using furniture borrowed from other rooms; The WIFI offered 4 alternative broadband connections if any failed. Ours worked the whole 2 weeks - the kids were happy they could stay in touch with friends back home. CREDIT CARD CHARGES: we knew in advance there were handling fees - this was all explained before we booked. We prefer to pay by card, and this apartment is very good value for its location, so had no issue with the total amount paid. Street GARBAGE – not noticeable when we stayed. NEIGHBOURHOOD: anyone who looks up the postcode (as we did before we booked) can see this is a superb location. In 2 weeks we didn’t even see the tattoo parlour the mentioned in a previous review! All my worry and sleepless nights before we got to London were unnecessary, as the flat is better in reality than online. Service was faultless, so we left the agent a bottle of champagne. If you have any concerns – phone them!

Holiday Escape

Location is everything, along with convenience. This flat offered this and more. Factual details reflected exactly what you got in the discription. Actually, the pictures appeared brighter and newer. The flat was somewhat worn and used, but was still comfortable. I prefer cleanliness close to Godliness and cleaned more for my likening. The supplies are there to use which was an added plus. Every supply you needed was available. Si met us and went over everything with us. All details covered in full. We had our week planned with lots of activities and the tube outside the door offered quick transit. Be sure to purchase your OYSTER Card for tube use...great savings. The flat provide detailed books and pamphlets to plan from if needed. There is every imangiable Ethic restaraunt available in walking distance. My family can't say enough about the location. The only downside would be if you aren't a city person; the noise and congestion of construction surrounds you and doesn't make for a quiet stay. We all love the thrill and excitement of city life, it is pulsating around you always. We sat on the balcony and enjoyed the lights and activities out on the streets. We were there over the Christmas break and even though there were three days of downtime in London 24, 25, 26. We were still able to book in theater, dinners, Fat Bike Tour, and walking tours on those days. If you love theater this is your spot!!! Every where you look there is one close by. The British Museum is so close and FREE. We love the Pub Grub. Our whole experience wa perfect. The flat offered a comfortable place to recharge. We ate breakfast and hit the streets, returning to our place to sit and relax. I have already given the information to four other couples that want to travel there this Spring. Thank you Si ( I would have given this a 5 if it was sparkling new...) Narrow stairs make it hard for disabilities

Correcting the factual inaccuracies in ad

traveling family20 Chapel Hill, NC, USA
Review Submitted: October 14, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
The apartment was clean, comfortable and the interior of the building felt safe. There were extras such as fans in the bedrooms and pamphlets for tours. Unfortunately for us, many of the advertised features of this property turned out to be absent or misrepresented. Some were small inconveniences, others cost us many hours of vacation and sleep. First is the claim that the neighborhood is quiet. It may have been quiet once, but it is far from quiet now with a major construction project on one side of the building and a major utility project on the other side. At night windows have to be closed to block out the nightclub patrons. The advertised kitchen washer/dryer does not exist. (The owner has since added a disclaimer to this effect, but it is buried in the bedroom section and the ad still clearly claims the washer and dryer are in the kitchen.) Instead of just throwing in a load of laundry and leaving, we were forced to spend far too many hours washing clothes in the small building laundry. The fully equipped kitchen turned out to lack any cooking pans larger than a quart so our plans of cooking in had to be substantially modified. Our family runs two businesses and has two teenagers, so the advertised WIFI was a key rental requirement for us. Unfortunately, the manager felt it was optional so he moved it to another apartment where we could not connect. Bizarrely he insisted that this and the lack of a kitchen washer/dryer were acceptable because they do not charge a separate fee for the items and so do not have to provide them. We take a more literal view of advertised features. The dinning for six would require two people per chair. The portion of the ad saying the charges are all inclusive fails to mention a $10 per day charge if you use a credit card. The general area was a step down from many neighborhoods with the building garbage piled on the sidewalk outside the main entrance and the tattoo parlor fitting in well across the street. The professional management struck us as unprofessional and profoundly unhelpful. Despite many phone calls the manager refused to restore the WIFI. We also were not used to management entering without notice, removing items and allowing staff to stay in the apartment the first night we paid for prior to our AM check in. The owner was asked to correct the factual inaccuracies in the ad but has not done so, so it is left to us. We especially disagree with the claim that the owner has never had a dispute with a renter!
Owner's Response: AGENT: Ive managed this property 10yrs&can categorically state advertised features are very accurate! Several factors totally out of Agent&Landlord’s control did affect guests stay&what started as frustration with washer/dryer location was compounded by an unfortunate series of events. This has led to some factually incorrect&nasty comments being posted, not the full picture, which may mislead prospective renters. As this affects the landlord, I owe it to them to put this right&cover ALL points raised, but only have 2500 chars here. SUMMARY: External work caused major inconvenience/disruption to water&broadband services. I was on annual leave&never met these guests (a cover Agent did the check-in who may not have been as helpful as me), but I spent most of my holiday dealing with the problems. This included: Thames Water company/emergency plumbers - I made 26 phonecalls &attended 7 on-site visits; Virgin Broadband engineers – I made17 phonecalls in 1 week (often waiting 45+ minutes for a human being) & attended 3 on-site visits (so had to enter flat!) Understandably frustrated, guests made an important call to me while I was off duty driving to lunch in the country. Seeing the caller ID&wanting to keep everyone happy, I took the call. Due to very poor cell phone reception, neither side could hear the other. I offered to call back later but guests stated theyd be out. My attempts to reply/offer advice were misunderstood, misheard&taken as rudeness, hence Ive been totally misquoted&the review is littered with incorrect statements: QUIET: we do NOT actually claim the neighbourhood is quiet. Under “How noisy are the apartments” is customer feedback/examples of what they say, so readers can make their own judgement. WASHER/DRYER: Guest told several times Holiday-rentals website ONLY offers us a tickbox feature under subheading “Kitchen” to show appliances. If we don’t tick this, anyone searching for a property with a Washer/Dryer wouldnt see us in the results! We supply FREE 24hr access to 4 washing machines + 4 dryers. This is BETTER than advertised + better than 1 combi-machine. I took immediate action on Sun 22/06/08 +added lines in 2 places to website - Guest describes my lines as “buried” + told me I was lying about tick boxes! I gave them print-outs of HolidayRentals blank forms showing tickboxes + copy of new website wording for their comments, inviting their suggestions- they never replied. Comments on PANS, SEATING, CARD CHARGES+AREA all not true

Enjoyable stay

nt and bg Boston
Review Submitted: September 16, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
We enjoyed our stay in our apartment. The apartment is conveniently located in the West End, one block from the Tottenham Court Road Underground. There is some sidewalk construction in front, and large nightclubs very nearby, but noise was not a nuisance.

The view is as billed, but really just looks out on a bunch of old rooftops and chimneys, and is more reminiscent of Mary Poppins than any other panoramic, sweeping vista one might imagine.

Check in was smooth. Our property manager was in contact by email before our arrival and was easily available by phone after we landed. Our WiFi stopped working and he replaced the wireless router in a timely fashion.

The property is clean and well maintained. ** Despite having an elevator, there are internal stairs to the bedrooms. ** There is a set of twin beds in one room, and a "king" bed in the other room. Unfortunately, the king is just two twins put together on a queen bedframe, so the crack in the bed between the mattresses is noticable. Otherwise, the furniture was comfortable IKEA stuff, and the high definition TV has access to a wide variety of programming.

Our manager recommended some local restaurants to us, but we would like to put in a comment regarding our own favorite: Imli, on Wardour St in Soho served some of the best, spiciest southern Indian food we've ever had -- try the multicourse tasting menu!

We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it in the future. Due to it's location around a number of very large late night clubs, I probably wouldn't recommend it to my parents (they're in their 60s), but anyone with some street smarts will have an enjoyable time.

My family stayed at this apartment for two weeks. The location was fabulous - right in the middle of everything. You can walk to so many places: Buckingham Palace,Green Park,Pall Mall, Oxford St, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden etc etc-too many to name.
The apartment was very clean and well maintained on two floors.
A supermarket and many restaurants are in close proximity as well as buses and the tube station. I would recommend this apartment if you want to be close to it all.
