My wife and I, along with our teenage daughter and niece, spent 7 great days at the Coco Plum and have already recomended it to our friends and family.
If you are looking for new and glittzy then this is not for you. The furnishings are probally late 70's era or early 80's but it is clean, clean, clean.
But if you want a wonderfull place to relax, cook a eat in meal and get a good nights rest this will fill the bill nicely.
The 'staff' is very helpfull and will accomodate you in any way possible. There are tennis rackets and other beach related sports equipment available as well as a lending library of books both recent and past.
The Keys have some of the most beautifull beaches in the world and Coco Plum has a slice of one of the best.
Is there seaweed? Yep, but the grass is a good indicator of the health of the water and the owners keep it raked out of the beach area for the most part.
The gardens and the pool and spa are kept very clean and pleasant and are uncrowded.
The 2 hammocks on the beach, strung between the coconut palms, are a real treat to kick back in and enjoy the view of the ocean as well as to watch the lizzards scamper from tree to sand.
We rented an ocean kayak from a local dealer who delivered it to us and then picked it up when we were done.
The cost the rental kayak was very reasonable and it provided us with a relaxing way to enjoy the water while getting some excercise.
We took a snorkeling trip to Sombero reef and that was a super experience. The cost of that was only $35 per person and it was one of the highlights of the vacation.
I reccomend taking a disposable underwater camera on the trip. You will have the oppurtunity to take pictures of the fish that will swim past you on the reef.
We went to Knight's Key (at the south end of Marathon) and ate dinner at Chappy's twice durning our stay. The menu provided local seafood as well as more traditional chicken and meat dishes. The salads and the mango lime dressing were very good.
All in all it was a very pleasurable experience and we look forward to a return trip the the Coco Plum in a couple of years.
By the way, there is a laundry room for each unit and it is kept clean and stocked with detergent.
The fact that there is a spiral stair case in each unit limits it's use for the handicapped and for some elderly folks.
Even if you stay in the back units the walk to the beach takes less than 1 minute.
Great value, relaxing beach and surroundings. Fun! Fun! Fun!
