Bones and More!

Review Submitted: November 17, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
This was my 3rd time at Knoll's Landing, and it won't be my last. I have fished several Bahamian islands, and for the bonefish and ambiance, Knoll's Landing is tops. Rodney, the head guide, lives on the premises and his beautifully maintained skiff is moored right off the beach. No long car rides trailering the boat to the water. You're out the door, on board, and on fish fast. Rodney really knows his stuff, and loves being out there. He's a great guy, very patient, and has unbelieveable vision. I've watched him spot schooling bones (not tailing or mudding) at 300 yards. No exaggeration. Diane, the owner, is a kind and wonderful host. She's always available, and wants your stay to be perfect. She's a wealth of local info and has spent most of her life on the water. Her place is beautiful and relaxing. My kids and wife love exploring the beach and snorkeling offshore. Diane and Rodney have become dear friends and I can't wait to go back. A fantastic place.

Knolls Landing Bonefishing & Family Resort with Rodney Miller Your Bonefish Guide Andros Angler

I am back home in the Boston area it is not much over 40 degrees and I can't quite believe that 48 hours ago I was still enjoying the sunshine of N. Andros and the temp was well over 80.
This was my first trip to Andros and although not my first attempt at bonefish it was about 14 years since I last made a cast to one of those beautiful fish. I hope I get back there soon.
I made arrangements to fish with Rodney Miller the head guide at Knoll's landing. Knolls landing, near Morgan's Bluff is a short 20 minute run to the Joulters. Rodney was a pleasure to fish with. He was confident and knowledgeable and within a few minutes of wading our first flat I was fast to a seriously big bone. About 200 feet into my backing something happened and the fish was off. For the next 3 hours Rodney regularly spotted fish and I regularly muffed the cast the wind was nasty tangled my line or pulled the fly out of the fishes mouth.
After a quick lunch we moved to Rodney's sweet spot a flat he fishes often that is a bit more protected from the wind. Fish were a bit harder to come by but his eyes were great and I had few more good shots hooked and lost another big fish 7 or 8 lbs. then FINALLY made a good cast and landed a beauty. The silly legs gotchas I had tied seem really effective. At times I saw fish trying to beat each other to the fly. I do not know how many miles of flats we walked but I was pretty well exhausted by 4:00PM when we headed in. Rondey worked his butt off to get me on fish and was patient with my bungling.
Had I had my wits about me and if the wind was lighter I feel that I should have had at least 8 or 10 good fish. But, the shear beauty of those flats the sun the clouds and the little lemon sharks cursing around made it a day I will long remember.
Another highlight of the trip was just hanging out with Rodney at his base at Knolls landing. Big bonefish regularly cruise the tiny flat right in front of the lodge in a couple of hours we saw and cast to 6 or 7 fish.
I did get out on my own a couple of times on flats near where I was staying and I did land another bonefish but it was nothing like having the benefit of a guides great eyes backing me up.

Bonefish Paradise!

Our vacation at Knoll's Landing was perfect for bone fishing. The cottage was really just steps from the flats and beautiful clear water making the location exactly what we wanted. The property is clean and well maintained.
It is important to note that it is a must to bring food and be prepared to cook all meals. The owner and guide are absolutely WONDERFUL and both live on site always ready to help with everything. they make us feel like family!
If you are not a fisherman (or fisherwoman) this is the place to relax-no shopping or distractions not too many places to eat out. We LOVED it and hope to go back again as soon as we can!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words. We so enjoyed your company and had so much fun together.
Rodney really enjoyed Bonefishing with the fellows out on the flats. Looking forward to your return. Kind regards, Diane and Rodney

Dear Diane and Rodney,

I am sure that I speak for all six of us (Ray, Lynn, Dawson, Dick, Mark, and myself) when I say what a great time we had! Everything was just right. I do not recall ever feeling so welcomed a I (we) were by you both. We look forward to a return this spring and more fishing, fun, and fellowship.

The only negative about Knoll's landing is having to leave!

Bill

Hello Diane and Rodney,

Thank you for the sand dollars. They were the one shell that I wanted for my collection but could not find!
Thank you for being so warm and welcoming. We enjoyed fishing off your
dock and snorkling at your reef. The boys and I found a highlight of our day was our run/cycle with your dogs as company.
Rodney was a great fishing guide. Doug and Matthew didn't catch any bone fish but were fascinated by the lemon sharks who were keeping the bone fish from biting their hooks.
I never thought we would ever get our fill of lobster but believe it or not, we had leftovers from the last batch. It helped that Doug was still to sick to eat, but the boys and I put a big dent in them. I made lobster sandwiches for the day of traveling back to Canada!

Cheers,
Beverly and Doug Quail
Owner's Response: Bev & Doug with their 2 sons were so much fun.
They loved beach combing for shells along with our two new Pups, Pepper & Dazy. Spent a lot of time snorkeling on the small reef in front of our place. Bonefishing with Rodney was their first time and they had a blast, Father & son out fishing together. We enjoyed them so much and hope to see them back later this year.

We loved our experience and complete hospitality at Knoll's Landing. Both Diane and Rodney are fantastic hosts - great accomodations, fresh fish, kayaks, bonefishing, and a gorgeous setting. Highly recommended to all who love white beaches and tourquoise water. This is a great spot! Wonderful for kids, as well. We will be returning year after year...
Owner's Response: To: Kerry, Dave & their cute son Rees, along with the rest of the Family, Love to them all.
They were here over the Christmas Holidays and had so much fun. The weather was just beautiful and warm. They had great days of Bonefishing with Rodney, Snorkeing & Spearfishing for Lobster & fish, Biking & Kayaking. A very nice Family & we look forward to there return. This was there second trip here to Andros. All the best from Knoll's Landing. Diane & Rodney

If you like to CATCH bonefish you will not
find a better place to go than Knolls
Landing. If you like to be pampered as well
you will love this place. Diane Knoll runs an
absolutly first class operation. The
accomodations are wonderful, stunning
views of the peaceful sound and only steps
from the beach. Rodney Miller is not only a
fun person to fish with he is a first class
guide. This man has "eyes". He will put you
on the fish, he knows how to position the
boat for fly fisherman. For me wading and
casting to schools of bone fish is as good as
it gets. Rodney will take you to "bone fish
world" where you will have the time of your
life doing just that. We had double headers
going at one point. If you have not had
enought fishing at the end of the day
Rodney will drop you off on a flat where you
can expect to see bones as you fish your
way back to the resort along a beautiful
beach or he might decide to join you for
some fun fishing. Rodney loves to fish. I look
forward to a return visit .
Owner's Response: Burl Lane was a delite to have as our Guest. He and Rodney had a great time Bonefishing. Got lots of Bones in our new spot called "Burl's Bonefishing Hole" They were out for 4 days from morning until! We hope to see you and your friends soon. Rodney says, "Next time will go for the big game fish Tarpon & Permits"
Thanks for the great Photos & your Friendship.

First and foremost, the warm and loving welcome and care from Diane Knolls and our wonderful Bonefishing guide Rodney Miller, made the vacation such an easy going and delightful experience. Then, words can not describe the natural beauty of the view from Knolls Landing, nor the mind-boggling experience of wading in knee deep crystal clear flats...Rodney pointing his rod out to a Bonefish...stalking, crouching, casting, waiting...then all hell breaks loose and for the next 15 minutes your hanging on for dear life...with the line down to the backing in seconds, only to have that happen again as soon as you get the fighting silver bullet of a fish within 20 feet...he spots you....another huge run....What an amazing sporting thrill...I've done every kind of fishing there is from stream trout fishing to big game deep sea, and my friends (Julien and Chris)who were with me agree there is nothing that compares to the total experience of catching Bonefish with a fly. To be out in water where all you see is crystal clear flats, and you can walk (very slowly mind you as they spook quite easily)for miles...the beauty is magnificent!! Back to land...the accomadations were great and just the way we wanted it. Private, no tourists, lots of local flavor, and peace and quiet with my great friends, and our fabulous hosts, Diane and Rodney. WE WILL be back on an annual basis, and the next time I'm bringing my wife and two daughters who will have a ball swimming, snorkling on reefs, sailing, kayaking, and just taking in the gorgeous view and scenery. Obviously, I can't say enough great things about every aspect of our vacation at Knolls Landing. I am pleased to talk with anyone who may want to inquire to share my experience. It is the ultimate Bonefishing trip!!! The three boys from CT send our thanks and warmest wishes to Diane and Rodney....see you next year!!

Warmest regards-

-Murphy
