Perfect central location for Langue D'Oc

Date of Stay: July 2009
We just returned from our southern France adventure (two couples). Our rental car allowed us to use it as a hub to explore this whole beautiful area.
The house was full of charm and very clean. Beds for couples were two twins pushed together, but still very comfortable. They were advertised as queens, so the double twins were a surprise, and I normally find them uncomfortable. I'm glad these worked out.
Parking was always available right outside the door, and the bakery proximity was a plus. We chose Bastille week for our visit and saw the best fireworks I've ever seen in my life! Truly a highlight. Even the crowds could not take away from the fairytale Cite.
We chose to drive down to the coast (Collioure), up north to a red city (Albi, Cordes-sur-Ciel), south to Limoux and various castles, north to cave and hiking territory, and sipped our way through Corbieres. I have to say, for someone who hates driving trips, the driving was spectacular; so many picturesque towns and castles!
I really wish this form allowed for a 4.5 rating, as this house really met almost all of our needs. The only things holding back from the highest rating were lack of air conditioning (however, we chose the hottest month to visit), and lack of phone. We do not have international cell phones and found that to be a difficulty on both ends of our stay.
We rent houses frequently for our vacations and were pleased with this one. Our next rental house vacation has some big shoes to fill.
Owner's Response: We're glad KKShaw enjoyed her stay.
We've found high-quality separable beds provide the best combination of comfort and flexibility for guests. When the beds are bolted together and outfitted with queen-sized (160cm) mattress pads and sheets, they are very comfortable for a couple. But the beds can also be separated into two single (80cm) beds, for guests who are comfortable sharing a bedroom but don't want to share a bed.
Like most 150-yr-old stone houses, Maison Juliette does lack air conditioning, but Carcassonne's average high temperature in July-Aug is only 27C (81F). We've added a new section to our house handbook with tips on how to use operable shutters to manage house temperatures on those rare truly hot days, and fans are available for all of the bedrooms.
We recommend that guests who do not have an international cell phone either buy an inexpensive prepaid French cell phone, or bring along a laptop so they can use the house broadband WiFi connection to call using Skype.
The Bastille Day fireworks in Carcassonne are reputed to be the largest fireworks show in Europe, and we agree that the show is spectacular. In fact, mid-July is our most popular week of the year for bookings, so if you'd like to see the fireworks show, please book early.
