Maison Juliette

Review Submitted: June 1, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Just returned from a fabulous week in this wonderful house! It's a stunning, large, spotless and very comfortable house full of character. Very well equipped for our party of 7 with a great South facing courtyard area. Within very easy walking distance of both parts of town and fantastic countryside surrounding.
Jeannine, the owner was extremely helpful with information and the site is totally accurate. Thank you!!
Susie, Manchester.
Owner's Response: We're happy that Susie enjoyed Carcassonne and Maison Juliette. We've been renting our holiday home for a year now, and we love to share this beautiful corner of France with our guests.

Perfect central location for Langue D'Oc

KKShaw Texas, USA
Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We just returned from our southern France adventure (two couples). Our rental car allowed us to use it as a hub to explore this whole beautiful area.

The house was full of charm and very clean. Beds for couples were two twins pushed together, but still very comfortable. They were advertised as queens, so the double twins were a surprise, and I normally find them uncomfortable. I'm glad these worked out.

Parking was always available right outside the door, and the bakery proximity was a plus. We chose Bastille week for our visit and saw the best fireworks I've ever seen in my life! Truly a highlight. Even the crowds could not take away from the fairytale Cite.

We chose to drive down to the coast (Collioure), up north to a red city (Albi, Cordes-sur-Ciel), south to Limoux and various castles, north to cave and hiking territory, and sipped our way through Corbieres. I have to say, for someone who hates driving trips, the driving was spectacular; so many picturesque towns and castles!

I really wish this form allowed for a 4.5 rating, as this house really met almost all of our needs. The only things holding back from the highest rating were lack of air conditioning (however, we chose the hottest month to visit), and lack of phone. We do not have international cell phones and found that to be a difficulty on both ends of our stay.

We rent houses frequently for our vacations and were pleased with this one. Our next rental house vacation has some big shoes to fill.
Owner's Response: We're glad KKShaw enjoyed her stay.

We've found high-quality separable beds provide the best combination of comfort and flexibility for guests. When the beds are bolted together and outfitted with queen-sized (160cm) mattress pads and sheets, they are very comfortable for a couple. But the beds can also be separated into two single (80cm) beds, for guests who are comfortable sharing a bedroom but don't want to share a bed.

Like most 150-yr-old stone houses, Maison Juliette does lack air conditioning, but Carcassonne's average high temperature in July-Aug is only 27C (81F). We've added a new section to our house handbook with tips on how to use operable shutters to manage house temperatures on those rare truly hot days, and fans are available for all of the bedrooms.

We recommend that guests who do not have an international cell phone either buy an inexpensive prepaid French cell phone, or bring along a laptop so they can use the house broadband WiFi connection to call using Skype.

The Bastille Day fireworks in Carcassonne are reputed to be the largest fireworks show in Europe, and we agree that the show is spectacular. In fact, mid-July is our most popular week of the year for bookings, so if you'd like to see the fireworks show, please book early.

Fabulous Girls Getaway Retreat

The Coven Scottish Borders
Review Submitted: June 9, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We (6 Mums on a 3 night break) would highly recommend Maison Juliette. We had a fabulous time from the moment we crossed the extemely grand front door. The house is excellently equipped with lots of added extras making the experience one to remember. The original / period features create a real 'wow factor' as well as the house having all mod cons. The walled garden courtyard was wonderfully peaceful and well equipped with plently of furniture for alfresco dining and wine sampling. Although the garden is surrounded by tall buildings we got the sun from around 9 am until 7 pm.

Jeannine (one of the owners) was extremely helpful throughout the whole booking process and this combined with the website and handbook meant that we could not fail to enjoy the experience of Carcassonne. Lesa (the property agent) was also very helful and a great source of information.

We would recommend Restaurant Le Saint-Jean in La Cite for eating out as well the wine shop around the corner from Maison Juliette (the wine shop gave us a free bottle of wine and a 10% discount when we mentioned where we were staying - however it could have been due to the amount of wine we puchased and consumed during our stay??

We are planning to return to Maison Juliette and Carcassonne and are working on our husbands at present to get this into the calendar as an annual event.

Thanks very much for the experience as well as making us so welcome as well as your attention to detail within the house.

Maison Juliette Carcassonne France

shabo quebec, canada
Review Submitted: April 22, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We, 4 couples rented the house in early April. Everything was great. It is a beautiful, spotless, well equiped, spacious and well-maintained house in a good location. We found it an easy, 20 min. walk to La Cité, which is an amazing site and a small bakery and grocery were only 5 min. away. The Sat. market is wonderful. The advantage of going in April is that you miss the crowds but the disadvantage is that the weather might not be too dry or warm. I would strongly recommend this house to everyone.
Owner's Response: We were happy Shabo and her friends had such a wonderful time. Like Shabo, many guests enjoy their stay at Maison Juliette without a rental car, walking to shopping, restaurants and La Cité.

This is an elegant home that is beautifully appointed. You can walk to the Cite' and to most locations in the town. It is well maintained and the rental transaction with the owner was handled efficiently.

I would definitely recommend this property.
Owner's Response: We're glad that Napajack enjoyed her stay. Many of our guests find that being able to walk to La Cité, restaurants and shopping makes their holiday more relaxing, without the stress of driving. Weather in Carcassonne is beautiful in spring and fall - consider an off-season holiday.

Maison Juliette October 2008

Alan Mumbles Somerset, UK
Review Submitted: October 8, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Maison Juliette is a lovely house, which we found very comfortable, and very convenient from the point of view of all the equipment and furnishings, and also for access to the centre of the town, the old city, and the main routes. The local agent was very pleasant and very helpful.

We had rented cars so we were able to see a lot of the area without spending too much time on the road, to various historic sites, vineyards and walks as well as restaurants, and of course the castle. And the weather for the most part was excellent for this time of year.

We will certainly be pleased to recommend the maison and the location to our friends.
Owner's Response: We were pleased this group of seven adults found Maison Juliette so comfortable. This was their first visit to Carcassonne, so we offered lots of information about local sights and activities. Fall can be a beautiful time in the south of France.

60th birthday family celebration

David and Diana Somerset UK
Review Submitted: September 28, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Well located for both the old town of Carcassone and the Fortified Citie.
Luxuriously appointed 4 double bedrooms and kitchen and 2 reception rooms
Outside dining would be great in the shadey garden, we only managed 10.30 breakfasts at the end of September.
Lisa the local contact is very helpfull
Lots of dining out potential--try L'Ecurie on the Boulevard
Patisserie very close for fresh croissants etc.
Owner's Response: David and Diana booked a last-minute 4-day stay, and we're delighted that they enjoyed it. Our property manager, Lesa, is a great source for planning your stay. Walking to the local bakery is highly encouraged - we provide a typical French rolling panier to make these trips easier.

a dream week in the south of France

Jill-ann Amsterdam, Netherlands
Review Submitted: August 26, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
From the moment we pulled up to the greetings of Lesa (the property manager) we knew this was going to be a great week. Once you enter the front door the true grandeur of Maison Juliette. The mosaic floor, the beautiful colors. Each room has something special. I LOVED the curved doors! The terrace was peaceful. But the new kitchen was inspiration for many great meals! It's a house that loves laughter but wraps you in comfortable relative silence as well.
Owner's Response: Jill-Ann was one of our first guests at Maison Juliette. We're thrilled she had such a wonderful time and hope to welcome her back someday.
