Great Host

Myself and my husband stayed 7 nights in Barcelona and felt an apartment would provide us with more space and choices as far as meal preparation went. That proved to be correct. The proximity to various fresh food markets allowed us to purchase breakfast foods and other healthy snacks to have on hand. The proximity to the Metro is a big bonus when you have walked all over the city and just need to get back "home" to rest. We stayed in Apt#2 and had a great view of Sagrada although it is somewhat obstructed by trees if you are taking pictures, in which case you want to head to the roof top for an unobstructed view. The stairs are plentiful but kept us in good walking shape;something to definitely think about though for anyone with issues climibing stairs...there is no lift.
We loved the authentic feel of being in a real neighborhood. If you are looking for that feeling of being part of the local scene and not being just a tourist, this is a great choice for you.
We also found the local library (a 3 minute walk) very helpful as we used the free internet there.
The apartment is minimalist in terms of decorations but that didn't make any difference to us. Kitchen fully equiped if you want to prepare any meals. Beds comfortable. If you have any sleeping issues I would highly recommend ear plugs. Street noise continues till 2 or 3am and starts back up by 5:30am. Traffic noise (particularly scooters) took getting used to at night; but Barcelona is a very noisy busy city so you have to get used to that. Area always felt very safe.
Artur is very helpful with recommendations for activities and restaurants. It is a big plus to have the host on sight. If you run into any problems and he can help you, he will. That's a service you are not going to get just anywhere.
The apartment did not smell of smoke and that was a welcomed relief to us. If it is your 1st time visiting Barcelona you have to be prepared for smoking by almost everyone everywhere. We found that exhausting as we do not smoke and have a strong dislike of the odor;
The towels need to be replaced. They had bleach marks on them and I prefer to have white towels in an accomodation so I know they are clean or dirty. They are dried outside so are very stiff and can have an odor. Barcelona has obvious air pollution and I'm not sure having that on my towels is a plus. I would maybe pack a small towel or 2 to bring with me. Also the bath mat was very worn.
We would stay again.

Great location, unbeatable views of Sagrada Famiia

Review Submitted: November 17, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2009
We stayed here 3 nights in November 2009 on a short city break, our first time in Barcelona.
Plus points: Unique situation gives great views of Sagrada Familia -bring some binoculars to get a close up from your room of the sculptures.
Roof terrace - again great views and a brilliant place to enjoy Arturs incredible breakfast.
Easy access to public transport in all directions and helpful advice from Artur
Plenty to see within walking distance too.
Clean, comfortable, reasonably priced accommodation.
Downside - Not much really, our shower was broken when we arrived (had to be wedged in place) it was still not fixed when we left.
Towels could do with replacing.
Lots of stairs, but worth it for the views.
Would recommend.

Just returned form 4 nights at "Gaudi's Nest". We chose an apartment rather than a hotel as we find it more relaxing, and you get a lot more room/comfort for your money! We were not disappointed - there's not many hotels where you open your curtains to a direct view of Sagrada Familia (okay from the 1st floor it was through a tree, but nevertheless) - the view from the shared terrace is magnificent.

Apartments are very well furnished - comfortable beds and sofas, and there's a good water pressure in teh shower which can be under-rated! We were pleased with the location. All of the main attractions are walkable, but with good transport links if too hot/tired. If you want to visit one Gaudi building we'd recommend Casa Batllo.

As stated in other reviews, Artur and Joana are very friendly and helpful.

Rooms with a view

This is an excellent, central, well equipped and spacious apartment with the best view we have ever had. If you want to enjoy what must be the best views in a Barcelona holiday apartment, book one of these. Two metro lines are very close by.

Our party of grandparents, parents and Ben aged 5 had a fantastic week at Artur’s Sagrada Familia flat. We have photographed la Sagrada Familia in every light and you should not miss Artur’s breakfast; it’s a Catalan feast served on the roof terrace.

You will find everything you need to make this an excellent base for your stay in Barcelona. The kitchen is fully equipped and the rest of the flat is very well presented and clean.

Artur and Joana will also recommend nearby restaurants; our favourite was Origen which is round the corner from the apartment and the metro. If the information you need is not already provided in the apartment Artur and Joana are happy to give any help you need. They were very helpful hosts.

We have no hesitation in recommending these flats.

On arrival, we wondered if we had made a big mistake asking for the top-floor flat. As with many of Barcelona's old apartment blocks, there's no lift and a lot of stairs to climb.

However, once you're up there, you've got the easiest skip up to the fantastic roof terrace to eat breakfast in the morning or sunbathe. Plus, if you're going to eat loads of Catalan three-course menú del dias like we did, it's a great way to burn off a few calories and you soon get used to the climb.

And, of course, more than anything else, to be able to open two sets of French windows and sit glugging a glass or two of vino tinto whilst gazing in awe and wonderment at Gaudí's Sagrada Familia, well, as they say in Spain, "vale la pena" (it's worth the pain).

Interior-wise, the flat is IKEA-equipped and modern, but it still manages to retain its original charm and we really felt at home here. It's a lovely, sunny flat too... perhaps not quite as big as it looks on the photos (the usual wide-angle lens scenario), but fab nonetheless.

Artur describes the area as quiet. Let me clarify that for you. There is no such thing as quiet in central Barcelona; there are just varying degrees of construction, scooter and bin-lorry noise. If you want a quiet holiday, this city is definitely not for you. What Artur means is that, relatively speaking, there is less racket here than you get living near Las Ramblas.

You couldn't ask for a better spot in terms of amenities, though. Everything's practically on your doorstep... cheap, reliable public transport, cashpoints, the fresh food market and so on.

And if you need to know where anything is, Artur and Joana live across the landing. They are lovely and friendly and will make you feel very welcome indeed. Enjoy!

Baby goes too but be prepared for stairs

We stayed here for 5 days in May and thoroughly enjoyed the Barcelona experience. With an 18 month old and one on the way we were a little hesitant in booking a busy city break however Barcelona is welcoming, fairly kid friendly (don't expect a wealth of baby changing facilities or highchairs in restaurants) and full of exciting sights and quiet spaces to relax with the family.
The apartment was clean, fully equipt and well presented with absolutely stunning uninterrupted views of the Sagrada Familia. It also backed on to a little children's park with swings, rockers and a slide which was an unexpected bonus. The entrance hall was in need of a little maintainace and prone to a funny smell (cat wee??) however this was not a major drawback - a big consideration in staying here with children is the fact there is not a lift to access the apartment so you will be climbing alot of stairs even if staying on one of the lower floors. The roof terrace on the 5th floor is a tough climb but well worth it for the views of Barcelona and for soaking up a few rays.
The apartment owners are very accomodation without being intrusive and provide lots of infomation and literature to assist your stay. Unfortunately the gas was being fixed the day we arrived so we did not have any hot water for a shower, we were however compensated by the owner who provided us with a free full Catalonian breakfast on the roof terrace the next morning, so we were all well fed, if a bit smelly!
The Eixample is a good location in that it feels safe and is quieter than other parts of the city, you are with 20mins walk of most sights and very near to metro stations, which despite the guide books warnings we found fairly painless to negotiate with a buggy ( be prepared for a bit of humping up stairs at some stations though).
All in all, the apartment was good value, well located for shops and food markets and we would use the apartment again for another visit to Barcelona although we would probably have an adult break next time.

Beautiful Barcelona!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our re-visit to this beautiful city. We were able to show her off to our son and his new wife (as they were on their honeymoon) and a dear friend. Artur & Joanna were very attentive & accomodating.Their English was excellent and they were gracious served a luncheon of the local tapa's and wine that we loved.
The apartment was exeptionally CLEAN and well appointed. The free wi-fi was very helpful as international cell charges are expensive. We struggled with the stairs to our 4th floor apartment but the VIEW was certainly worth it! The restaurants Artur recommended were fabulous and everything was either nearby or convenient to all public transportation. We loved it! We hope to return to this beautiful beautiful city again and again. This one never comes off the "Bucket List"

Incredible View & Awesome Host!

This apartment was absolutely awesome and Artur was the most helpful host! We arrived via plane and with the excellent directions provided by Artur we made it all the way to the apartment easily via the train and metro. The other couple travelling with us arrived earlier and took advantage of Artur's pick up/drop off service (extra charge but well worth it).The view was fantastic and the apartment contained everything we needed for the week. There was a market close by with friendly, helpful staff and the metro couldn't have been much closer. Lots of excellent restaurants nearby and Artur provided tons of suggestions and tour information. Take advantage of the spanish breakfast prepared by Artur and his wife if you can - was an awesome introduction to the spanish food! I would recommend this apartment to anyone except those who have an issue with going up and down stairs - we easily made it up and down with our luggage but people with mobility issues may find it restricting...We'll defnitely book again if staying in Barcelona! We really enjoyed our recent stay. The apartment was just right for the two of us and we loved the two doors opening to the park. The view of Sagrada Familia was amazing.

While the stairs seemed imposing at first, they really weren't much of a problem. The wireless internet access was a bit spotty but we could not have been more pleased with our stay. Thank you Artur for being so helpful. I highly recommend this apartment.
Owner's Response: Thanks Robin, we are working to improve the internet
signal in the first floor with a new and more powerful antena

A perfect place to stay!

We were really impressed with this spacious, very clean apartment which had every ammenity taken care of. Artur was a wonderful host who was incredibly helpful and provided us with lots of information to make our stay in Barcelona even more enjoyable.

The roof terrace was amazing with a fantastic view of Sagrada Familia and a wonderful place to have breakfast on a morning or an evening drink - perfect.

The area felt very safe and had lots to see and do. However, the metro and a regular bus service to all other areas of Barcelona were also just around the corner, so it was very easy to get around and an ideal base for our holiday.

The stairs to the apartment were the only negative thing about the whole stay. As there was no lift it took all our energy to reach the top. However, the apartment and roof terrace were well worth it and we'd definitely stay here again. In fact we're already looking at our diaries to see when we can book another stay!
