Comfortable Apartment in Central Location

Review Submitted: November 10, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
My family of four stayed in the apartment this fall. The apartment is comfortable and bigger than you'd expect for such a crowded and big city like Paris. The two bedrooms are just like pictured in the web site. One of the twin beds has another bed of the same size that slides out from underneath, so there are really three tween beds. There is also a full sized pull out bed from the sofa, we didn't use it much, but it seemed comfortable. We didn't do any cooking, bu the kitchen does offer basic cooking utensils and dishes.

We took advantage of the closeness of the apartment to the metro and took the metro everywhere we could. One ticket lasts 2 hours, we learned this lesson the hard way, as we got lost and spent more than two hours within the train stations and a very unpleasant officer in the train station gave us a 80 euro fine. Some people in Paris can be very unpleasant, they don't care you need help, even if you are trying your best in French to explain your needs, so do your homework as much as you can.

Back to the apartment, I found the living room comfortable, and the dinning room table was spacious enough for six. We didn't eat at all in the apartment, for we didn't have much time to cook, but there is a small store in the first level of the building where you can buy very basic things. As everything in Paris it's pricey.

There were six small shower towels available for use. Very basic, but if you forget your own, these are available.

The apartment is not technically on the first floor. You must go up the stairs to go up to it, so if you are wheelchair bound, you cannot use this apartment, as even the access to the very small, one-person elevator, requires going up about five steps to get to it.

Also, parking is a nightmare in Paris. I recommend you don't drive. We could not find a parking space anywhere close to the apartment, not even in the Parking garages near by.

We liked the apartment. It was more comfortable than most hotels. We are typical Americans spoiled by big spaces, and this provided a decent space in a crowded city.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review....they are always appreciated both by owners and people looking to make a choice for their holiday.
My apolgies regarding the towels...you were meant to have a large towel and a hand towel per person...I have spoken to the concierge regarding this.
The apartment is on the first floor....in most of the world the street level is called the the ground floor, and one up from street is the first floor. There is a lift, so no need to use the stairs if you prefer not to.
Bad luck regarding the parking ticket, but had that been London or New York, the car would have been removed and the fine in London would have been the best part of £400....€80 starts to seem cheap.
There is an underground car park across the road, and you may have to book a place if you bring a car....but you are right, no car needed in Paris and the apartment provides just about everything except your clothes :-)
Best wishes,
Jon

No place like Paris for nourishing the soul!

Joya in Paris London
Review Submitted: September 1, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Hi Jon
Just a quick note to thank you for the use of your lovely apartment - Paris was as chic, beautiful and stylish as ever, and I was so pleased that the rest of the family enjoyed it as much as me (me being the francophile of the family!). It's just such a shame that Paris is so expensive - that's actually the only thing that puts me off!

We ate at Giovanni's on Sunday - what a fabulous gastronomic experience and I loved the street location and sitting by the olde worlde door of the apartment block. Must say the building is very Balzac/de Maupassant, don't you think? Loved the quirky winding staircase and slanting floor in the kids' room and covings and ceiling roses are so beautiful (are they originals or reproductions? Couldn't really tell they were so authentic). Only real complaint is maybe some lightweight quilts for the summer months wouldn't go amiss.

Once again, many thanks

Joya

Hi Jon
Hope your summer is going well!
After I returned from Paris with all kinds of photos showing what a nice time we had, my parents decided they wanted to go!
I totally recommended your apartment and they are wondering about availability for May for next year. It is my mothers birthday in May so this is her present...they have never been to Paris before.
Please could you let me know if the apartment is available?
Thank You!!

Nice Apartment

We enjoyed our stay in the apartment. Giovanni was very helpful and pleasant. He offered to assist with anything we needed and he was a joy to deal with.
Nice, clean and light filled flat. It is very close to 2 Metro stops and an easy walk to Gare Du Nord if you have to go there. I think it is good value accommodation for Paris. We were a party of 4 adults and there was ample room. For some reason the Wi Fi was not working and there were problems in the area,so we walked across the road to the park where it was working! It was actually very pleasant sitting in the sunny park using free Paris Wi-Fi!

Lovely, clean and spacious apartment in a very nice neighbourhood. Plenty of good restaurants and shopping on the doorstep and a lovely stroll to Sacred Coeur. Giovanni from the excellent restaurant next door was very helpful and welcoming in letting us in and showing around the apt. Overall, would recommend highly, with the only downside being some noisy neighbours and their TVs !

Springtime in Paris

We have had such a great time in Paris. The appartment was a perfect place to stay for two couples and Giovanni did a really good job showing us the appartment.

The appartment was clean and we found everything we needed including two hairdryers :-)

The owner - Jon - has provided really good customer service and we will surely recommend this property for our friends.

The best attraction was Eiffel Tower in the evening (11. p.m.) and la Defense, excellent.

We visited Versailles for the first and last time. Not worth spending a whole day there at our opinion.

Thanks from Gitte and Kim, Karin and Poul, Denmark

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Apartment Madeleine. It is exactly like it looks in the photos - clean, comfortable, and very nicely French.I loved everything about my holiday there. The apartment is in a really great location - within a 10 minute walk to the Sacre Coeur and Monmatre and about 5 minutes from the metro to the Champs Elysees and the the heart of Paris. I enjoyed strrolling along the Seine, going to the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower etc, shopping, eating outside at the pavement cafes. And we were warmly welcomed by Giovanni who owns a rnearby restaurant ( very handy!) and gave us the keys.We would love to go back.

We had a lovely time in the apartment. We were a group of 6 women and found the apartment most comfortable. The kitchen was smaller than we had expected but this was okay as we did very little cooking. We at first had a very hard time unlocking the door to get in but with a little bit of practice it got easier. It was quite easy getting around the city as the metro station is a block or two away. The metro station closest to apartment was closed for renovations. Giovanni , The man who owns the Italian restaurant downstairs and Sami, from the grocery store downstairs were most helpful. We would absolutely stay at this apartment again on our next trip to Paris.
