A wonderful Break

My husband and I have just returned from a two week stay at Casa Alexander and we had the most fantastic time. It was the first time we have booked direct with an owner and were surprised at how quick and easy the whole procedure was. The description and photos of the villa were very precise and the reality more than matched the photos. The owner was friendly and helpful throughout the booking process with plenty of useful information regarding directions and the villa's ameneties. The villa was clean and beautifully furnished with a decent welcome pack to greet us. Apart from a lack of beer glasses, it had everything we could have wished for. The covered outdoor eating area was really useful to shelter in if the wind became chilly. There was a wide selection of novels to choose from and a choice of dvds to watch (which we did on one rainy day). The owner's representatives called on the second day, were very friendly and made it clear they were only too happy to help if we needed them (we didn't). The gardener called once to maintain the lovely garden and the cheery pool guy dropped in a few times to check the pool and hot tub. Ah - that tub! It has to be one of the best features of the property. We swam in the pool a few times but we spent every evening in the warm water of the tub drinking sangria and looking up at the stars. The only drawback was the chilly exit in the cool evening breeze!
We always hire a car and would certainly recommend this to see all that this lovely island has to offer. Don't miss Fundacion Cesar Manrique (his house built in underground lava bubbles), Cueva de los Verdes (a walk along an underground lava tube), Mirador del Rio (a stunning lookout point), Los Hervideros (wild and dramatic coastline), Jameos del Agua (can't describe it - just go there) and finally the Timanfaya National Park where you must not miss the death-defying coach trip for the most fantastic view of the rugged volcanic landscape. The resort of Cala Blanca is very pleasant with a range of shops and restaurants without being too touristy. You would need a car to get there (or a taxi) as it is not within walking distance of the villa which is situauted in a very peaceful area to the west of the resort and, whilst not totally secluded, it is private enough. I would certainly recommend this property to anyone who wants a quality villa holiday at a price which gives excellent value for money.
