Gorgeous house, great location, wonderful memories

Bernisson is a fantastic house, with plenty of space, a large pool, a games room, bbq and sweeping gardens with beautiful views.
We stayed there after our wedding nearby, with 12 friends and 2 babies, and it was perfect. A large kitchen table which saw many a good breakfast! Lovely outdoor eating space, with great views of the hills and trees and twinkling farmhouse lights at night. Loads of toys and games for the babies- and they even supplied safety gates which was a great help!
The place was clean and tidy, but still had a nice relaxed feel. We didn't need to use the 'local information' folder, but read it anyway and it had plenty of useful suggestions and tips.
The owners are lovely, really friendly and helpful, and living just a short walk away.
I'm not sure what more I can say, except we had a wonderful week there and would definitely go back to Bernisson again. Oh, and the photos don't do it justice!

If you are looking for a quiet place to spent your holidays with a lot of friends, then go to Bernisson !
First, you will be very well welcomed. Second, the house is very big and everything has been well thought : 2 kitchens, a bathroom in each bedroom, material for babies, a big garden, games for kids and adults... and a swimmingpool ! On top of that, you will be very well located to visit the region.

Owner's Response: Merci bien pour votre visite.
It was wonderful to have a large group of friends with children and babies staying at Bernisson, we are very happy that you enjoyed our house and all the facilities which ensured your holiday was a very happy one and one to remember for a long time. We understand how hard it is to organise a holiday for a large group with different needs and expectations and it is very satisfying to hear all the wonderful comments all your party made. Merci encore.

Lovely Family House

Review Submitted: September 14, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This property is well maintained, the bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely, the family rooms are spacious with plenty of seating. The garden area is large with plenty of space for outside games, and the pool is a good size for family parties. The owners are very helpful, and are constantly updating the property. There is plenty of space for private sitting, or group meals. The kitchen facilities are very good, and there is a charcoal BBQ. The outside games room is a great space for kids or teenagers to hang out. The property is located in a very rural spot, with beautiful views, but access to good supermarkets is within 5 or 10 minutes by car. There are many interesting towns and markets to visit, and the local wine is excellent! It is worth noting that the upstairs rooms are accessible via 2 very steep staircases, not suitable for the elderly or infirm. I would heartily recommend this property to my friends and family, and have already booked again for next year!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our house, it gives us great satisfaction that you enjoyed your holiday so much this year that you are all returning next year, we look forward to hearing the band playing in the games room again. It was lovely to have a large family group, two Grandmas, siblings and grandchildren. Thank you for your comments re: the staircases, one at either end of the house, accessing the 4 bedrooms upstairs, as you found with your family the ground floor bedrooms are perfect for those who don't want to climb up any stairs and also provide a haven away from the activity of the rest of the family too!!

Thank you Bernisson!!

This was the first time we, as an extended family, had holidayed together. Bernisson was just perfect. So much so we rarely felt the need to even leave the beautiful house and grounds!
From the very beginning with the easy and swift e-mail contact with Jennie and Doug the owners (thank you for the shopping you did for us prior to our arrival), to the easily followed directions from the airport, everything was perfect. The house is far nicer than the photos show , they really do not do it justice. The grounds are perfect with stunning views from the garden. The pool is fantastic with plenty of pool toys for all. Even my 73 year old Mum enjoyed water polo in her rubber ring!
Evening games challenges in the games room were good fun especially when fueled by the local wine which was of excellent quality. We can heartily recommend the evening at Chater Wines (Jennie and Doug will have the details).
Bernisson is a short drive or pleasant walk to the local village where there is a supermarket which sells almost all you will need. The kitchen storage is more than adequate and the BBQ more than large enough to cook for all 10 of us.
We certainly plan a repeat stay.

Beautiful Bernisson

Just arrived home, relaxed and refreshed from a fantastic week at Bernisson - a stunning property in an iydillic setting. Just a short walk from the pretty bastide town of Monsegur, the house is idealy situated for visiting the many attractions in the locality. It is approximately 40 mins drive from Bergerac airport and the directions we were given to find the property were spot on! The accomodation is spotless and extremely well equipped, yet it still retains the charm of a traditional French farmhouse. Each room is tastefully decorated to a very high standard.
The swimming pool is superb, plenty of sun loungers and parasols, with a variety of play equipment e.g. beachballs, dingies and inflatables. Adjacent to the pool is a smashing games room - pool table, table football, ping-pong - enough to keep both children and adults entertained. The pool and games room are within reasssuring view of each other! Our children, aged 15 and 10 would have happily spent the whole holiday either in the pool or the games room!
The property boasts fantastic gardens, which the owners obviously work hard to maintain and incorporated within are numerous outdoor eating areas - I don't think we ate at the same table twice during our stay!
The local restaurants are very good value for money and the area hosts various markets, selling delicious local produce (ask the property owners for more info).
It's worth looking out for wine festivals/tasting events - an excellent way to spend a few hours! Or try one of the local vineyards - we purchased some excellent local wines during our stay, all of which were very reasonably priced. The owners, Jen and Doug, were very friendly and welcoming, and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. We found the information folder provided by the owners particularly useful.
I would highly recommend this property for a fabulous French holiday and no doubt we will return in the future.

Beautiful Bernisson

I would definitely recommend Bernisson it was absolutely beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment I spent there. The house itself was stunning - beautifully decorated, extremely well-maintained, very clean and very well-equipped. The house has gorgeous gardens - plenty of space for children to explore and run around, and is surrounded by some truly breathtaking views making eating outside a real treat. The pool also boasts the same gorgeous views and is beautiful - large, very well-maintained and well-equipped. Bernisson's location is ideal - a 40 minute drive through beautiful countryside from Bergerac airport and just a 15 minute walk from the Bastide town of Monsegur - with many other Bastide towns just a short drive away. The happy and friendly welcome we received from the owners made us feel at home sraight away and nothing was too much trouble for them - they provided such a good insight into the local area and very useful information. Berisson is a real gem just can't wait to go back and already booked!

Unforgettable holiday !!

Review Submitted: December 9, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
This was our first trip to France and our first footsteps outside of the "safe" 4/5* all inclusive hotels. Our fears were dispelled as soon as we turned into the drive that took us to Bernisson, it was unbelievable. The setting of the house was perfect and we had to stop to take in the views. The house was spotlessly clean but with all the attributes that you would associate with an old French farmhouse, The pool was great, not overlooked but with stunning views across the surrounding countryside and there is a pool table, table tennis and table football. The house was in an ideal position to explore the Bastide towns in the area and a 20 minute stroll into the nearest town with its bars and restaurants. As if all this was not enough, the hosts Jenny and Doug were superb, their friendly manner making you feel instantly comfortable, always discreetly available and a mine of information on the best places to visit. It would be hard to find people better suited to the job they are doing. As you can guess we can`t wait to go back.

A holiday for all the family; Grandad to grandson.

Grandpa Bob Woodbridge Suffolk UK
Review Submitted: December 9, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We chose Bernisson, with it's seven bedrooms and four bathrooms as an ideal Farmhouse to bring all our family together for a group holiday so that all the grandchildren could enjoy themselves without the usual weekend upheaval associated with a family get together. It worked very well and everyone sat down for breakfast and supper together every day. The parents were able to relax on the terrace in the certain knowledge that a family member was always around when the youngsters were playing in the field or swimming in the pool, which was a lot of the time. All in all, a lovely old Farmhouse in a beautiful setting providing everything a large family of eight adults and six children needed to enjoy a relaxing holiday together away from it all.

The property was as expected with all rooms, bedrooms and sitting rooms, a good size and provided plenty of space for parents and children to spread out as need be. It was clean and well maintained. There is an abundance of wildlife around the property with lots of butterflies, moths, birds and small lizards which the children loved. Short walks around nearby fields provided further interest for the youngsters requiring minimal supervision.

Owners Jenny and Doug are great and they were available when needed. Doug kept the pool clean on a regular basis and although this was not absolutely necessary it meant that no one person had to worry about it. One thing needed was the provision of larger waste bins and recycling boxes.

Excursions into Monsegur is only a short drive away and made shopping and eating out pleasurable, especially on Market Days when lots of local produce was on offer. The Night Market was most enjoyable with it's local foods all available to try, eat and drink there or take it home. The local Super Market, although small, sells everything needed to feed and refresh a family on holiday. It stocks the local wines at very good prices e.g. half the UK price and we suggest the Duras Whites

The lovely old town of Duras is worth a visit to see the Walled Castle which sits prominently at the top of the hill overlooking the valley immediately opposite Bernisson.

Great place to get away from it all which we would recommend to family and friends.
