Amazing 7 days

Review Submitted: January 2, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We stayed in Stoney Hills for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquillity provided by Karol and Merv Stewart. The studio was excellent and very well equipped and tastefully furnished. The balcony and hammock proved to be the best feature with stuning views over darkwood beach. The sunsets - well words escape us. The road into the studio requires a four wheel drive but once you have navigated it once its just a pure delight thereafter. The supermarket at Jolly Harbour is excellent. If you want to chill and enjoy Antigua there is no better place. We have been to Antigua four times now and will definately return to Stoney Hills the next time.

Owner's Response: Ken & Maggie, Thank you for sharing Christmas with us, it was a pleasure meeting you both and look forward to your next visit.
Thanks Karol & Merve.

Perfect!

Karol and Merv, thank you so much for a perfect 5 days in Antigua. Our studio was perfect. Everything you would need for a luxurious self catering break. Spotlessly clean, well maintained, fluffy towels, lovely candles, (Tour de France on cable for Paul), tea in the cupboard, what more could you ask for. Oh yes, wonderful views, AC, hammock, near to big supermarket. Even nearer to the most perfect beaches - especially loved Ffryes, and the beach bar. AND the best hosts you could wish for. Our plane was delayed and we did not get to the supermarket in time to buy food. Karol had cooked rice and chicken and insisted we had some too - you don't get that sort of service in a 5* hotel. Merv isn't a bad cook either, chicken and dumpling soup was the best meal we had in Antigua! I could go on and on. The studio is ideally situated for visiting the Island, you will need a 4x4 to get up the drive, but you need one anyway as the roads on the island are full of potholes. Karol arranged the jeep for us, at an excellent rate, and made sure we were picked up from the airport. When we go back to Antigua we would not dream of going anywhere else. Thank you Karol and Merv, best wishes Gillian and Paul.

A very special place

We visted Stoney Hill in March and had an absolutely wonderful time, a holiday to remember, in fact we both said we could have stayed much longer. The apartment was beautful, very nicely furnished with French doors opening onto a veranda which wrapped around the property giving stunning views of Darkwood Beach. It was so peaceful and relaxing we could have sat out there all day watching the colourful birds, in the evening the sunsets were special. Jolly Harbour was within a few minutes drive were we found a well stocked Supermarket for all our needs and also a small shopping centre with Bank, Restaurants and an Information Centre. There were many beautiful Beaches close by with Ffryes and Darkwood just at the bottom of the hill. We found Antigua easy to navigate, Nelsons Dockyard and English Harbour are well worth a visit and St. Johns is a good day out just watch the one way systems. Karol and Merv were wonderful hosts, very helpfull and welcoming I would not hesitate in recommending Stoney Hill and hope to see them again sometime.

What an amazing find ! Our stay could not have been more pleasant, the room was immaculate the bed was very comfortable and the shower had great pressure. But it is the view and the welcoming owners that really made our stay. This is an ideal set up for couples looking for peace and quiet, it is truly worth the challenging driveway clime !

Our stay at Stoney Hill

QPR Bear London, UK
Review Submitted: March 17, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We stayed at Stoney Hill in February during the England V West Indies cricket match. The apartment was superb, comfortable and nicely decorated. The hamock provided on the huge balcony was a great place to relax and look out over the beautiful view. The photos and description of the property provided on their website were accurate, but if anything undersold the place. The apartment was extremely clean and very well maintained.
The owners Karol and Merv are the nicest people that you could hope to meet, who were always willing to go out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable. They both have a wealth of local knowledge and helped with arranging day trips and car hire.
The apartment is situated up the top of a steep hill, reached by a dirt track. A 4x4 vehicle is a must.
At all times during our stay at Stoney Hill we felt safe and at home, enjoying the lovely apartment in beautiful surroundings.
There are a wealth of beaches within 5 mins drive and there is a well stocked supermarket 5-10 mins away at Jolly Beach resort.
When not watching the cricket, we visited the breathtaking Half Moon Bay and Nelson's Historic Dockyard both well worth the drive. Another highly recommended day trip is Eli's Eco Tour, a unique trip that is definitely not a booze cruise.
We would definitely stay again and recommend Stoney Hill.

If you are looking for a great "get away from it all, with two wonderful hosts", ---- this is it. Nice and quiet with beautiful ocean and country side views. As soon as you open your french doors, you have beauty and chirping birds. Karol and Merve are so helpful with anything you might need or want to know. Their hospitality is something you won't get at an all inclusive or run of the mill hotel. They know the island and the people and can connect you if needed. On Friday night they hosted a curry dinner for locals and guests. It was fabulous. So, if you like a local touch and love to explore the island on your own (with suggestions from the hosts, if needed), you will not be disappointed with Stoneyhill. We had an super time on Antigua and much of it was due to Karol & Merve and their beautiful and well maintained accomodations. The pool and bar area are amazing also. Our motto has always been -----"go and do"and we did just that in Antigua and enjoyed every minuter of it. Thanks Karol and Merve :-)
Oh, and one more thing --- the sunsets are just picture perfect from your own hammock !!!
Owner's Response: The pleasure was all ours, Thank you for all your compliments,We are so pleased that you had a fabulous time in Antigua and are very glad to have been apart of it !!!!!

Wonderful

Review Submitted: September 13, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
The location of this property is excellent. It is close to beaches and amenities, but being in the countryside it is not busy or noisy. I loved having access to a pool which is right next to the bar!! The themed food nights (curry night)were excellent. The property itself is exactly as you see it in the photos. The attention to detail is amazing, everything is of excellent quality. The property is cleaned 3 times a week and it is included in the price.
The owners Karol and Merve are wonderful hosts, there wasn't anything that was too much trouble for them. From collecting us from the airport, recommending car rentals and generally looking after us.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone, in fact I am hoping to return with the rest of my family as soon as I can!! It is excellent value for money.
Owner's Response: Thank you for all your kind words, we at Stoneyhill are so pleased that your vacation was enjoyable and are looking forward to your return.
For all of our future customers ,we would like to inform you that we are adding a new feature on Sundays. We will be opening for Traditional Sunday Roast at a reasonable price.
Starting on Sunday 23rd Nov 08. Come and enjoy our tasty food, while relaxing by the pool, taking in the beautiful scenery of south west coastline.

Bunny & The Wailers

Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Carol and Merve – thank you so much for three beautiful days on Antigua. During our whole trip (6 ½ weeks Caribbean Islands-Tour) your place was the nicest and definitely the cleanest one (it was the only apartment where I did not use my disinfection pads…), very tastefully furnished, with a comfortable bathroom and all the comfort one can expect! We really enjoyed our stay very much and we will definitely come back as soon as possible!
Even though we did not have much time to spend with you on Antigua, you let us see and experience so many things we won’t forget!!! Bunny & The Wailers live in concert , the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen, a spontaneous birthday-dinner, me giving up smoking (works out until today), discovering the island with a 4x4 jeep…
Carol, I am still wearing your bracelet and we are listening to Bunny & The Wailers every day!
Thank you so much for your hospitality, we are looking forward to seeing you soon
Baerbel & Alex
