Villa Penina

Review Submitted: October 21, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
This really is a lovely villa. It is very spacious and decorated to a very high standard throughout, with three good sized bedrooms and three good bathrooms (one en-suite). The kitchen is well equipped and there is a good sized living/dining area. The satellite TV is a great touch - perfect for watching MOTD when the kids have gone to bed!

We visited in October - the weather was fantastic. The temperature was in the high 20's every day and there was only one morning of rain in two weeks.

The beach at Alvor is about ten minutes away by car, but there is a very nice communal pool area for those that can't be bothered to travel that far. Every time we went this was very quiet - so it's a good place to slip away and read a book.

Faro airport is a very easy 45 minute drive away - straight down the motorway. If you have a TomTom, bring it along as it works really well and will help you find the many tourist attractions that are in the area. Our favourite was the 12th century fort at Silves.

All in all - I'd recommend this villa to anyone - particularly those with younger children. It's a great base from which you can see this part of the world.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay at the villa. The weather has been good for our guests this year - may it long continue.

September in Alvor

The location of the villa is excellent, the villa itself is very spacious clean and well laid out, there was only the 2 of us so we used the double bedroom which is en-suite. The kitchen is very well equipped with a seperate bbq area on the balcony outside. More outdoor garden furniture would have been lovely, we would have stuggled if there had been more of us, the roof top sunbathing area could do with a couple of loungers. The pool is a short troll away from the villa and was a peaceful area whilst we were there, the pool was to cold for us but looked very inviting.
Out and about we found some wonderful small beaches with excellent resturants.
We would definately use the villa again and highly recommend it to friends and family.

Owner's Response: You will be please to know that we have added some sun loungers and a table to the roof terrace and additonal balcony furniture for those al fresco nights in. Thanks for your valuable feedback.

Portugal Golf Trip

Bigunit32 London
Review Submitted: September 24, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
I recently spent 3 days at the Villa with 5 friends for a golf and beach weekend.

The villa was excellent. All facilities were modern / clean and the master bedroom was massive. Villa is extremely secure and was easily big enough for 6 lads.

We decided on letting the mgt team organise a hire car and food for the first night (as we were getting in late) both services were seamless and well worth considering

The villa is approximately 20 min drive to Lagos and 15 mins to Alvor Beach. It was also literally 2 mins drive to Penina Golf course.

Overall its a great alternative option to a hotel.

Family holiday

Review Submitted: September 18, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Just returned from 2 great weeks in Portugal and staying in Villa Penina. Airport transfers to the Villa were smooth and recommended for luggage which then enabled us to hire a smaller car for our stay. The Villa is very spaceous and well equiped having been built this year. We particularly liked the full width balcony and the swimming pool which was very clean and a favourite for our children (aged 4 and 7). We had the pool to ourselves on most days (English and out in the midday sun!), although with some development still in progress i'd expect the pool to become busier in future seasons.

We enjoy the flexibility of self catering; whilst the Villa is close to a retail park and local attractions these are not walkable therefore a car is essential in our view. The Villa benefits from a built in garage which ensures parking or additional storage is no problem. The villa is situated about 100m off the main road which provides easy access but also some road noise in peak season. When not around the pool, there is a large choice of beaches within driving distance. We'd also drive to the Penina hotel for lunch or drinks and play golf. A large retail park was 5min drive away which had all we needed in one spot.

The Villa and Alvor is well located on the Algarve, with the majority of attractions within a 30min drive. Our kids loved Zoo Marine and the Waterparks. We also took a very enjoyable boat trip from the nearby town of Lagos. Having swapped Greece for the Algarve this year, the benefit of a shorter flight, great beaches, golf courses and local attractions means we will certainly plan a return trip

Our family holiday

Michele DH London
Review Submitted: August 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We were a family party of 7 adults and one child aged 8. we all thought the villa was lovely and generously refurbished and well presented. The accomoadation suited us and our needs for a relaxed family holiday, we enjoyed eating, drinking BBQ'ing and spending time together on the generous sized balcony from breakfast through to late nights.Overall the accommodation met all our needs and at no time did we feel cramped or squashed together although the 'sleepers' downstairs were frequently woken by an over zealous and more noisy member of the family making tea and breakfast in the morning! the pool was really great and on many occasions we had it all to ourselves which felt very luxurious. we spent a great deal of time round the pol as it was often too hot to be stuck in a car or travelling around but we had great fun and our smallest party member entertained and became and expert handstander in the pool!

We experienced and immensely enjoyed a great stay in Vilapenina and the surrounding area of Alvor, which we found to be delightful, the beach is a true delight. We liked the village feel of Alvor itself in contrast to other more 'touristy' places along the coast.

We visited the slide and splash on 2 occasions and even us oldies had great fun we were very impressed by the cleanliness there and mostly everywhere we went. we were also really welcomed by most of the local people (except for one rather rude female in Monchique) this is a excursion not to be missed.

We all had a great holiday and will definitely return in the future, we would recommend the villa to others without any hesitation as the villa and Alvor were delightful. Thanks

Ideal for a successful holiday

NIETS Oslo, Norway
Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We, a familiy of 5, had a very pleasent 2 weeks stay at the Vila Penina and can recommend the location as a base for a holiday full of experiences. With (nearly) three teenagers in the family, 3 bathrooms were perfect when we arrived back from a day at the beach! The townhouse is very well equipped and is easily "converted" to a private home for the stay. A car is a must when staying at the Vila. We can recommend using the services offered by the Home Team, who took care of the car rental and airport transfer service. The food welcome package kindly offered by the house owner was greatly appreciated as we arrived late in the evening.

The location of the Vila is perfect for various activities and sightseeing. A number of great beaches can be found within 10 - 15 minutes drives from the Vila. A dolphin cruise from Lagos is a must. Get up early to catch the 8.30 tour! A trip to Cabo De Sao Vicente, as far southwest as one can get in Europe is also recommended for a spectacular view of the Atlantic. We are all looking forward to go back some time.

Fabulously relaxing break!

Athar London
Review Submitted: June 3, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Myself and a friend went to Alvor for a relaxing week. And that's exactly what it was! The area is beautiful, the facilities are spot on, and the villa itself was very clean and luxurious.

You will need a car, but driving in Portugal is very easy, parking is absolutely no issue, and the car rental is very inexpensive. We hired a car before we went out there for £70 for a week. Navigating is easy enough, and we drove a very short distance to a variety of small, quaint villages and very picturesque countryside.

Aside from this the beach is very close as well, and it's a lovely beach for good measure! There are water activities not far away and a few towns close by that have loads of bars and clubs if you're after that sort of thing. Cabs between the bar areas and the villa are reasonably priced, but there is also a bus service just outside the villa that goes into town!

The villa itself is very nice. Very spacious, roomy, lots of facilities, you won't be caught wanting, all the little details seem to have been taken care of. Speakers for your music player, bbq equipment, sheets, towels, even a jacuzzi is present! Also importantly during summer air conditioning is there all over the house. Another lovely touch are the shutters (electronic) throughout the house - you can sleep through the brightest sun and think it was midnight - lovely!

The views from the villa are also spectacular and are very peaceful. Personally I'd definitely go back and I don't think it will be long before I'm back there!

Enjoy...

Perfect Holiday getaway with kids!

JC & NC East Sussex
Review Submitted: June 1, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We had a fantastic week at the villa with our two young children and friends with their two young children. The villa is absolutely fantasically spacious, cool, and has a balcony from each room. The views across the alvor estuary are lovely. The pool was fantastic and the villa was very ideally situated for sightseeing or chilling out around the area of alvor. The property is child friendly and easily fitted both us and our kids and our friends in and we both had hire cars and lots of luggage! There is plenty of room for an evening bbq on the terrace and we ate in every night due to the youngsters which was fine. Very chilled out and a perfect getaway for anyone. The villa is in a very good spot for most things and most areas are very easy to get to. We would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting good food, weather, beaches, location, accommodation. Very good indeed!! We would certainly consider returning to this property without a doubt.

the perfect holiday villa!

we stayed at the Penina villa for a long weekend last week - 7 of us went and the villa was the perfect size and setup for our group (3couples and one single lad). the villa itself is a delight, all mod-cons with smart, modern decoration and very good furniture and LOADS of space including plenty of storage in the garage. the shared pool was great, and the villas location ideal for reaching the nearby beaches of Alvor plus the golf courses of Penina and Palmares.
Overall i'd recommend the villa to anyone with its south facing balcony, roof terrace and massive rooms!!
we'll be going again :)

the property is new and theerfore everything is in excellent condition, well furnished and nice and clean. Very handy for excellent golf courses and we also visited the new race track at Porto Mao where there was a F1 race and there will be another one next year (2009). We have stayed in this area many times and this is certainly a property that we would reccomend and stay at again ourselves. Good ammenities and in a good location for dining out.
