Casa Almadraba

Where to start? A beautiful property, my wife and I (over 50s) with our son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren (8,6 and 22 months) were captivated as soon as we arrived. The children were changing into swimwear and jumping in the pool before we had unpacked. Being saline rather than chlorine, the pool was very refreshing and kind to those of us who were in it for long periods, particularly the children who, other than when they were asleep or eating, were hardly ever out of it, completely relaxed and having fun. We also loved the beach, 3 minutes walk away, with great Atlantic surf to play in.
The property, in conjunction with the neighbourhood, was upscale and very pleasant. Nicely laid out with a number of seating-relaxing areas so that we were never on top of each other. I particularly liked the shady area by the pool, where my wife and I spent many pleasant hours reading, keeping an eye on the children, sipping wine or beer.
My only criticism of the property is that the master bedroom and upstairs en suite had no doors between bedroom and bathroom; there was not the privacy that most brits are used to. Other than that it was excellent.
The local bar, unfortunately, seemed mostly closed that early in the season (22nd May) but the little shop provided most grocery needs.
Having said that, it really is worth visiting the Mercadonna at Conil, where the fresh fish counter is superb; great langoustines at six euros a kilo (£26 per kilo in my local Waitrose) and a wide variety of fish for the barbeque. If you go there, try the back road past Cape Trafalgar and wonder at all the rusty old anchors (from the Battle of Trafalgar, perhaps?) by the little harbour.
In summary, a good property for a family holiday and a great one for an extended-family holiday.
