What a find..... the most enjoyable and relaxing holiday so far. The Cullimore family are the most inviting hosts you will ever meet. Nothing was a too much . It was difficult to leave the pool and the amazing view. But when we eventually did we discovered the beautiful beach at Nerja , it was so refreshing to jump in the sea, our six year old enjoyed snorkling and saw some beautiful fish. Our children (aged 6 and 5) were made very welcome they had enough entertainment to last several months, not the mention the dogs (Charlie, Bruno and Woody) and guinea pigs. The Cullimore girls looked after them so well and we really appreciated the babysitting facility which gave Steve and I an opportunity to hike up the mountain to Comares, there are few words to describe this 20 minute walk, apart from breathtaking. We will be back this time armed with our hiking boots. Lastly thanks to Jacqui for the best door to door driving directions ever. Its difficult to discrible this holiday to our friends, we just want them to see for themselves. Thanks Jacqui, David and Girls. See you again soon

Owner's Response: This review is so pleasing to receive, this lovely family were our first guests who were not couples and it was great that they enjoyed "Vine Ridge" and it family facilities as much as we hoped they would,we strongly believe that it takes a family to understand what another family need and require on their holidays and our philosophy appears to be working.Logic says that if the children are happy and content then so are the parents and this is what we aim to achieve at "Vine Ridge".We are so pleased that the reviews keep coming and the feedback is positive.Our children love the babysitting and it appears many of guests children love being looked after, it is not often on a family holiday that the parents can have some quality time to themselves.We look forward to seeing many of our guests next year and offering yet more facilities.

Jill and Ray - London mid October 2009. No reviewer has mentioned our feeling of utter disbelief at the views from our terrace - still can't grasp that we were looking almost 1 mile down the slope of a steep (but safe) valley to 3 tiny hamlets set along a river bed below us. Yet straight across that valley and upwards was an enormous mountain range about 20 miles away stretching from left to right, formed by the silhouettes of sleeping giants. Far away to the right is a glimpse of the Mediterranean.
We seriously considered spending the whole week, just sitting and looking - absolute magic for the soul.
The trek up to Comares was about 30 mins for us aged 55+ and not too fit, a few stops on the way sorted that out. Coming down ladened with 6 litres of Alhambra beer, wine, cheese, crusty spanish bread and serrano ham was fine so long as you took care on the goat track. Watch out for the goats though, they drive on the right.
Bars and restaurants all available up in the town aong with a small Coviran store which appeared to sell a bit of almost everything.
Walking was good in the area, most starting up at Comares, and kept us amused for days - especially the olive tree grotto on the green walk.
But it was essentially the views from our studio, and the peace and quiet that got us. Oh and Woody and Charlie and Bruno, can't forget you guys.
If any holiday maker wants a doggy guide around the Comares walks, borrow a lead and take the dogs with you - very friendly and great fun
And regarding the score out of 5, why the 4 - well nowhere is perfect, is it?

Owner's Response: A great review by guests who took full advantage of our in house taxi services to save money and simply walk around the area.They enjoyed our offer to shop for them upfront as they were not hiring a car and they were a pleasure to have around, the dogs miss them.
We have a strong feeling they will return and then maybe 5/5 will be on the cards.

A great holiday in a beautiful setting

We had a wonderful time at Vine Ridge. The appartment was well maintained and equiped. We particularly enjoyed the hill walking around Comares and peaceful evenings on the terrace. David and Jacqui were excellent hosts and were very helpful. A great place to sit by the pool and chill or to stretch the leg muscles in the surrounding hills. The area is great for walking and birdwatching as well as having the attractions of a bars and restaurants within walking distance. It was also within driving distance for a day out in Granada and Malaga town is well worth a visit. The closest beach resort of Torres del Mar is much more Spanish than much of the rest of the Costa del Sol. We have already recommended Vine Ridge to friends.

Owner's Response: A fantastic family who had a great desire to walk to a large extent and they were not disappointed with the majority of the local rutas.They had a great flexibility to walk or sunbath and the weather at this time of year was kind to them and allowed them to do both in equal measure.It was great to see two teenage girls also enjoying the country and views and our 3 dogs gave them great entertainment.
As per usual we are so pleased and in our first year and also very humbled by such great reviews and all we can keep saying is a BIG thankyou.

Stunning location, stunning views, excellent accomodation, lovely host family. The pictures shown don't do it justice. The accomdation is spotless, spacious and excellently kittted out for self catering. David and Jacqui have thought of everything and couldn't be more helpful. Comares is the idyllic, mountain top, spainish village with some great places to eat, if you can drag yourself away.

wir hatten die große Freude in beiden Appartements jeweils 1 Woche zu wohnen,und sie waren beide auf ihre Weise großartig-vor allem die große Dusche!.auch zum kochen gab die Küche uns alles, was das Herz eines Koches sich wünscht.wir haben Ruhe gesucht und sie gefunden.der Ausblick war Atemberaubend und es war Herrlich von der Sonne geweckt zu werden.die Mandelbäume luden zum snacken ein und die Terasse zum grillen.es war so entspannend und die Familie Cullimore so hilfsbereit und zugleich so diskret,dass man diesen Ort einfach nur weiterempfehlen kann!!!die 40 min zum Strand sind eine schöne Abwechslung zur Ruhe am Pool..Wine Ridge ist sicher zu jeder Jahreszeit ein Genuß!

Owner's Response: A great fun couple who were our first German guests and also our first guests who switched from the apartment to the studio half way through their stay due to bookings, hence it was great to get feedback as to which place they preferred as although they are very similar it is nice to see if one or the other is preferred and it appears they came out equal.
As usual they were blown away with the views and although they spent a lot of time by the pool they enjoyed the fact that the beach is reachable within 40 minutes.
They also loved cooking and the kitchen facilities gave them everything they we after.
We are looking forward to all the different nationalities discovering "Vine Ridge" whatever the season and at this moment bring on the hikers,birdwatchers and mountain bikers.

A Perfect Getaway

Our recent week's stay at Vine Ridge was a delight. Whilst the listing description is accurate, it is impossible to completely capture the stunning location and spectacular views. They just have to be experienced. Accommodation is spotlessly clean, attractive, comfortable and very well equipped for self catering, though we spoilt ourselves by eating at excellent restaurants in beautiful Camares. Lovely walks from the Studio gave us an appetite! The Vine Ridge site provides ample space for both privacy and socialising in eating areas and around the pool. To swim in the pool and at the same time watch an eagle soar over the mountains was amazing. Jacqui and David were great hosts - welcoming, helpful and friendly. They have a passion for this new venture and have put a great deal of thought and effort into providing what guests need.Apart from Vine Ridge itself and surrounding area, highlights of our visit included the bustling Spanish market in Velez and the interesting town of Antequera, both within easy travelling distance. The track approach from the road to Vine Ridge is a careful first gear job, but manageable and well worth it.
We will certainly recommend Vine Ridge to friends and family and to anyone who enjoys experiencing the real Spain . A little gem.

Owner's Response: A lovely review from a great couple,this is pleasing because this couple are well travelled and have grown up sons giving them time on their hands to have numerous weekly holidays in which "Vine Ridge" seemed to be one of their favourites,also they arrived just after our youngest independent travellers had left who also loved what this part of Spain had to offer hence giving us the knowledge that all the different style of travellers who have come to "Vine Ridge" appear to be having a great time.
The usual comment we often get is that no one can believe that within 1 hour from Malaga airport that Spain is so dramatic, pretty and mesmerising and Comares appears to be such a wonderful and unspoilt village.We knew we had picked the right location to live but all of our fantastic guests are know given us confidence that we also have the picked the perfect venue to grow a rural location business giving pleasure to travellers.Thankyou

Omitting to read the part about the dogs was the best mistake I ever made: being terrified of them, I would not have booked and would have missed out on this amazing holiday!
I know the help and hospitality of David and Jacqui has been attested to several times in these reviews, but it really is true. This was pretty crucial for us, as we did not hire a car - so the taxi service, the stocked fridge on arrival and the possibility of buying drinks from them (rather than lugging them down the track from Comares) were invaluable to us.
I loved the studio: the attention to detail in the decoration (lots of candles, dried flowers, vases, little dolphin charms in the bathroom) made it feel far more welcoming and luxurious than yet another bare, bland hotel bedroom. It was also equipped to perfection for a self-catering holiday, every utensil you could need was there, and so cooking was not half as stressful as most “self-catering” holidays.
Then again, you probably won’t want to cook in very often. We had fantastic meals in Comares when we braved the walk, and the drinks seem ridiculously underpriced, even to a pair of students! Not that the walk back down to Vine Ridge allowed for much indulgence…
The quality of the holiday was amazing – we ended up with the pool pretty much to ourselves, the accommodation was spotless, the views to die for. Yet taking into account the prices of restaurants, the ability to cook in and the brilliant value accommodation, it was probably our cheapest holiday ever!

Owner's Response: This lovely review is very special to us because this lovely couple were our youngest independent traveller who did not hire a car and we really hoped that "Vine Ridge" would give then enough stimulation to keep them happy,well going by this review it certainly did.They were very honest from the the first e.mail in regards to being concerned as to whether we would rent "Vine Ridge" to them but we always feel that if you find "Vine Ridge" on the web you are looking for a certain style of holiday and age has no relevance.On the very rare occassion during communications when we feel that "Vine Ridge" is not correct for a potential guest we do say and even decline the booking as we always say we are here for a marathon and not a sprint. Hence always tell us what you want , we are very honest.Our "Customers" will tell you !!

We had a fantastic two weeks holiday at Vine Ridge. The hosts were great and very friendly people, the views were breathtaking, and the accommodation superb.
If you want a relaxing, romantic, quiet and winding down vacation, this is the place for you. The Vine Ridge sits seclusive on a mountain, only reachable by a rough track, close to the small and beautiful village Comares. You can take walks in the area, drive to the Mediterranean i 30 minutes, to Malaga in just an hour.
A fantastic place we will recommend to everybody we know.

Owner's Response: To be honest I am now running out of replies, to say we are so pleased with our valued customers/guests comments would be an understatement !! , We are so pleased that everyone that has come to "Vine Ridge" in our first year has enjoyed themselves and for this lovely couple who were one half Danish and the other half Dutch to yet again give us a 5 out of 5 review is wonderful.They were simply mesmerised by the views and how high we sit which I suppose is not surprising considering where they stem from but more importantly they are loyal guests who when they need to unwind often go back to a place several years on the trot and this gives us confidence that we will gain repeat custom and longterm guests, one of our main focuses. We love meeting people from all over the planet and allowing the common factor in their life to be "Vine Ridge" . Thank you once again for appreciating what we offering at our rental and enjoying your holidays.

We have had the most fabulous two week stay at Vine Ridge with our two children, the location and accommodation far exceeded our expectations, everything was well maintained and clean and we all agreed it was the best family holiday we have had. We spent a lot of time round the swimming pool relaxing but there are plenty of places to visit within easy reach, we really enjoyed the dolphin boat trip from Gibralter and the horseriding which suited the novice or experienced rider. Comares village is beautiful and we found some really great restaurants there, Spanish and English, the walk to the village was stunning.
Our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, we really appreciated the babysitting service so we could enjoy an evening out together.
We intend to return next year and will be recommending family and friends

Tanned and relaxed I am behind my notebook now at home in the Netherlands to write something about our time at Vine Ridge Studio. We have felt overwhelmed by the beautiful amazing views literally over the mountains and the sea at the horizon. We adored the always blue sky, the sun, the heat especially always accompanied by this sweet wind that constantly kept us comfortable with the heat. The pool was a great joy, the sea and beaches as if we were children again and they were not crowded at all! We have loved the sardinas in every restaurant at the beach. And we felt very welcomed by the sweet English family that owns this place and that enthousiastically jumped into this adventure to live there and to create this lovely place. They very nicely decorated the studio and appartement, all their love and care is in there. They were very joyful people with very sweet and wise young daughters (teenagers) to have around and also with a great deal of respect for the space and time we liked to have to be on ourselves. Very attentive! As we said in the title; exactly what we needed! Thank you so much!!

This is praise indeed and gave the whole family a great feeling of achievement.It was fantastic that our first Dutch guests had such a good time and their fun loving attitude combined with the facilities at "Vine Ridge"made it a perfect match.Guests often say it is nice to visit the lovely beaches that are close by knowing that you can come back to the studio and spend the evening looking at the mountain ranges, sea view and of course the clear skies.Lets hope more people from Holland follow these girls example and discover "Vine Ridge" as we are gaining more and more confidence from the reviews that they will not be disapointed.
