La Batalière

Review Submitted: February 24, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
We spent just over two weeks at La Batalière and found it to be very enjoyable – a spacious living area and mezzanine, a large, private balcony with a sunny aspect and a very well equipped kitchen. Its proximity to the canal and associated restaurants, plus the centre, made it very convenient for all facilities. Frequently cleaned communal areas added to the overall pleasure. We would have no qualms recommending La Batalière to our friends. The owners are very friendly and helpful.

A very airy apartment in a great location. It was great to sit on the terrace and watch the boats on the canal. Capestang itself is a good size - not too big, but with a good choice of shops (including 2 supermarkets) and a choice of restaurants. Lots to see and do in the area as it's not too far to the coast. Did a lovely gorge walk at L'Heric.
The double bedroom is quite small, but everything was very clean and we had everything we needed. The owners were very helpful. I would definitely recommend this to friends.

La Bateliere, Capestang

La Bateliere is a lovely spacious first floor apartment with a large, sunny, private balcony with a view over a garden to the canal port. There is a comfortable sitting area on an upper gallery for a relaxing evening at home. Parking is easy, in a private area at the rear of the property. It's a short easy walk to the village centre which has good restaurants and food shops.
Capestang is centrally located for visits to say Roquebrun, Beziers, Minerve or a day trip to Carcassonne. Good for access to and from the motorail at Narbonne.
All-in-all an ideal spot, lots to see in the surrounding area or just relax locally.

Pleasurable, practical and perfectly positive

Firstly we found the property to be exactly what we were looking for, and in an ideal location for our purposes; as we were able to travel around a good part of the area, knowing that we had a good 'home from home' to return to each evening.

The property is clean, well equipped and well maintained, with a functional and practical layout; with reserved personal parking very close to the entrance. The property is alongside other owners and yet it was always quiet with no neighbour noises at all to disturb us.

The local village is close, and with good access for walks on the canal, close to shops and eating places.

To be able to sit on balcony and view the activities on the canal, both early morning and evening was an added and well appreciated bonus.

Sue and Paul were the perfect hosts with a friendly manner, good advice, and provided lots of information tourist guides to all areas, underlining the ideal location it was to explore a most beautiful area.

We found the supermarkets to be well stocked for our needs, not forgetting the local supermarket in Capestang which always seemed to be open. Aldi, Lidl and Intermarche are all handy and in a another town was ED, also ideal for our needs. Beziers was not very far away and the Halles (market in the centre of Beziers) is a must visit to sample the best of fresh produce at reasonable prices.

Capestang and the towns and villages are well worth exploring and particularly for me there were good opportunities for photography and I was able to produce a Capestang / Canal du Midi calendar from our trip.

Places to visit of particular mention were Minerve, Poihes, Beziers, Homps and Carcassonne to name a few.

The most important thing about this stay and property and place was there no negatives, and indeed a month or so later we are still fondly remembering our time in Capestang; and always telling our friends about the good time we had.
The property is good value and ranks higher than any previous visited.

It is definitetly a place and property that we will return to, and we highly reccommend it.

The apartment was everything that it was said to be. It had everything that we needed for our short break away. It was clean and tidy and had a calm quiet feel about it. It was lovely to sit on the balcony for our meals and having the umbrella helped keep the sun off the children during the day. All in all the property was excellent and met our requirements.
Capestang itself was a lovely village. It was good to look over the Canal du Midi and watch the boats coming and going. The markets were lively and the people friendly and there was a huge selection of local produce and wines to sample.
We spent most of our days at the beach at Valras Plage which was a huge hit with the children - it was so clean and it never seemed to be that crowded.
We would definitely go back and we have raved about it to friends and family.

Very relaxing ...

Having stayed in a variety of self-catering holiday-lets it was delightful to find this spacious apartment lived up to expectations. The well equipped kitchen suits those wanting to cook a full meal or just snack and the extra fridge is a bonus. There is an ample pleasant terrace catching the sun most of the day overlooking the canal to view the ever changing water traffic. Above all it was spotlessly clean and reassuring to know the helpful English owners live nearby. It is quiet and secure here with a garage useful for storing the wine purchases even if you don’t use it for the car!

Nearby on the canal quay there is a welcoming bar/restaurant and also the local tourist information office with Wi-Fi available where in summer months there are weekly wine tasting sessions. Capestang is a charming village with all facilities within walking distance and a larger supermarket on the outskirts. It is in an excellent position for exploring the local area in any direction with coast or mountains easily accessible and plenty of interesting countryside, villages and vineyards in between. We would certainly put this on our list of “Would you want to return?” holiday properties as we enjoyed a wonderful relaxing time here.

Super Canal side apartment

Review Submitted: March 8, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
We have now stayed twice at this delightful apartment, which looks out across the garden to the port on the Canal du Midi.

Capestang is a lovely village with a twice-weekly market in the square beside the very large church. It also has good shops and restaurants and a selection of wine “caves” to visit in the village and nearby.

The apartment is spacious and well appointed and the very friendly English owners live close by if you need to contact them.

The terrace is a wonderful place to sit in the sunshine and watch the often amusing antics of the boat people on the Canal, with some not as experienced as they would like to think they are, handling their boats.

This is a great holiday spot and from Capestang you can visit many interesting places within easy travelling distance such as Homps, Le Somail, Roquebrun, Carcassonne, Gruissan and Narbonne with its wonderful daily food market in Les Halles.

Highly recommended!!

Super Holiday

We stayed at La Bateliere fortwo weeks in September 2008. We flew to Perpignan and picked up a a car. The journey was straightforward and time taken as described. The apartment was spacious, airy and well equipped with a lovely sunny south facing balcony overlooking the port at Capestang. The apartment was close enough to the village to walk in easily for fresh bread and other supplies and the local people were friendly and helpful. Susan and Paul, the British owners were extremely helpful without being intrusive. We toured extensively while we were there and used the apartment as a comfortable and relaxing base. Overlloking theport there was always plenty going on and we sometimes sat for hours just watching the "goings on" We tend not to eat out, preferring to sample local produce "at home" but there are plenty of restaurants close by if that is what you prefer. We would certainly recommend this property to friends and hope to visit again very soon
