Loren & Joshua - August 2009

Shades is a real home from home in a tranquil, tropical, paradise setting. The apartment layouts are well thought out and mimic the details on the Shades website to a tee. Waking up to the vivid, colourful landscape was always a pleasure. When looking for holiday accomodation, the fact that it was a family run set up pushed the right buttons for me. My 8 year old son found a mentor in Bernard, one of the proprietors, and literally learned to swim within 2 days of being there. It was cool to be part of a larger family and still have time to lyme by the pool or within the patio area attached to the apartment.
The facilities are very accessible, spacious and tastefully chic in decoration and furnishings. They were also very clean and well maintained. All residents have the freedom to come and go as they please (there is plenty to see in Barbados) public transport being very close or car rental available by arrangement.
It is clear the staff all love their jobs and ensured that all our needs were catered for on request.
I will definitely recommend Shades to all heading to this beautiful island.

I had a fabulous worry free holiday. Thanks guys you are great!!

Perfect Getaway

Review Submitted: August 24, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Having visited barbados twice before, we were unable to stay in our usual accomodation,so we decided to do a dual centre, the first week was fine, but wow when we arrived at Shades we were blown away. The accomodation was superb, it is the perfect retreat to relax and enjoy everything Barbados has to offer.

Shades is in the great location in St James, in a quiet location, so you are not disturbed with traffic noise, but still only a couple of minutes from the main road which has a regular bus service into Holetown, where there is a great selection of restaurants and bars.

The beach is a couple of minutes walk away, or else you can plug your ipod in by the pool!

Jackie and Errol are the perfect hosts, not forgetting Mac, we miss you all and hope to return again soon. Thanks for making our holiday so perfect.

Simply the Best!!

Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My boss recommended Shades to my boyfriend and I and we were not disappointed! Neither of us had been to Barbados before but had heard how beautiful but expensive it could be. Our stay at Shades made this holiday the best ever and we would not dream of staying anywhere else but Shades. With it's lush and colourful vegetation, exotic gardens, clean and modern apartments, relaxing atmosphere and super friendly staff, you won't ever want to leave! Jacqui and Errol work so hard to ensure your stay is as memorable as possible and you can tell they genuinely love what they do! God bless you both and kindest regards to dad! See you next year!

SHADES...THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!

Lady in Red! London
Review Submitted: May 24, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
SHADES can truly be described as the best of both worlds - it has the luxury and elegance of a boutique hotel set in beautifully maintained lush green landscaped gardens, just moments from the beach. Whilst at the same time the intimacy of the layout of the well appointed and well maintained apartments have all the comfort of home.

The owners and manangement team are so welcoming and friendly that you feel immediately at home and a part of the SHADES family!

SHADES was truly an experience I would recommend to everyone and one that I will be returning to.

Holiday in February

Review Submitted: May 22, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We went to Shades in February, it was our first time in Barbados. We were a bit worried when the taxi drove into a little road, but it wasnt until we drove through the gates, was welcomed by Jacui and Errol and walked up towards the apartments that our worries began to fade away. Jacqui opened the door to our apartment and we were immediately impressed with what we saw in terms of size, cleanliness, decor and layout of the apartment. It had every home comfort we could ask for. We stayed in apartment, 7 the Penthouse and it is very spacious, airy and light. The apartment balcony looks over the well tended garden area and pool. Our apartment had a sense of privacy about it and it was clear that thought was put into building these lovely properties.

Buses are literally down the road, as well as Paynes Bay Beach. The supermarket is short bus ride ride away, however, we hired a car to get around and this was well used.

The pool was slightly cold, however still managed to swim and my partner made use of the gym. Jacqui advised us of places of interest inluding good restuarants and activities. My partner had an accident during our stay, (nothing to do with Shades) and Jacqui, Errol and family could not do enough to support and showed genuine concern for him. The comfort of Shades helped his recovery process.

I would recommend Shades to groups, families, couples of all ages. Whether your looking for activities or relaxation Shades will be the perfect base for you to choose from. We are hoping to come back to Barbados in September and we will be defiantely be coming back to Shades.

Fantastic!

I am always concerned when looking for a place to stay, and hope the details given are accurate. On this occasion not only were the details accurate but exceeded our expectations. The accommodation was lovely, a great size and well organised. We had access to everything we needed and what was not in the apartment, we only had to ask. The facilities on offer did not disappoint, we took full advantage of the pool and small (but perfectly equipped) gym.

The location was perfect, shops, beach, transportation were all easily accessed.

The property was well maintained both in the apartment and the gardens surrounding. Customer service was amazing, all the staff were welcoming and friendly, everyone went out of there way to ensure we were comfortable when on the property. Additionally they were on hand to give advice about getting around or organising any activities you may have chosen to do.

I would highly recommend Shades to my family and friends.

The Odeo's 4th visit in 5 years!

Review Submitted: April 27, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Having just returned from our 4th family holiday at Shades we are already wanting to go back. Over the course of our 4 visits we have stayed in both the 2-bed apartments and the penthouse, both of which are fantastic with plenty of space for family or group of 4. They are well equipped with air-con, tv, dvd player, cooking facilities, full size fridge, etc. Anyone that stays here could not be disappointed - the facilities are excellent - there is a pool and gym and the beach is a stones throw away.

We have spent days lazing by the pool, sunbathing on Paynes Bay the local beach, touring the island in a rented car, travelling by local bus to the various beaches and going on boat trips (Cool Runnings is excellent fun for all ages).

Jacqui and Errol make the whole experience so smooth, they are the warmest, friendliest people you could meet, nothing is too much trouble. Special mention to Errol's dad who my children affectionately refer to as "Uncle Wilf"...he is a sweetheart and his huge smile every day sets the tone for the whole of Shades!

See for yourself and visit - there is a high probability you will see us there! I also visited with a group of 5 female friends for a week in February to celebrate our 40th's which was slightly livelier than a family holiday (!) - all of the group want to return and had to be dragged from the island!!

Would definitely recommend to all (but kind of want to keep it a secret....!). A fantastic place to stay on a truly beautiful island.

Lovely Place

Very friendly reception from Jacqui, who was very helpful with excellent local knowledge. The descriptions are very fair, Shades is a clean & well maintained property set in lovely grounds. We would certainly recommend it to friends for a quiet get-away. Local busses are excellent for getting up and down the coast but other guests had hired cars and seemed to enjoy using them! Payne's Bay is delightful and we'd recommend a walk along the sand to Daphne's for happy hour cocktails at sunset!

Shades! Peace and tranquility!

Marcelle London
Review Submitted: April 6, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
This was my first time to Shades and Barbados and I found them both on par. Relaxing, friendly and a wonderful place to be!

The hosts are very accommodating and whilst I didn't want for anything, they are right there when you need them.

The environment of Shades is well maintained i.e. the pool area is clean and tidy; greenery/shrubs etc. are also kept to a good visual standard. My apartment was spacious, well decorated and I felt very at home – even on my first night!

In terms of activities, restaurants etc, you can catch a bus at the bottom of the road (2 minutes walk from the apartment) left to Bridgetown or right to Speightstown restaurants and eateries can be found along the road or in both towns. In terms of activities, it’s all on the beach jet skiing, water skiing, glass bottom boat trips, etc.
The hosts can also advise you on catamaran/fun boat trips etc .

Not much more for me to say except that I’m going back for my 40th in October 2009 after being there for 2 weeks in February 2009 – I’ve travelled all over Europe, the Caribbean, and the US - Barbados is where I want to be on my 40th!
