Review of Whitfield Apartment, Hong Kong

All of my pre-visit enquiries with Rose, the owner, were answered with speed and efficiency and thankfully in fluent English!!! We initially booked the apartment for four of us, but added our daughter and her partner at the last minute.
We were met at the airport by a very smartly dressed driver (optional extra) and taken to the apartment where we were met by Rose and her husband, who offered further help and advice. The apartment has unlimited WiFi access for your own laptop. The telephone provides free local calls, and there was a safe. The television was rarely used but had the 'World' channel with a selection of English speaking programmes. The access to the apartment block is by security code and there is a doorman on duty in the day time. Although the apartment is advertised for 5 possibly 6 occupants, for a long stay in comfort I would ideally suggest a maximum of 4. There is only one hanging rack so we lived out of our suitcases! However, it very much served our purpose of giving well-priced accommodation in a convenient location close to Tin Hau and Fortress Hill MTR stations. We basically used it as a dormitory being out and about all day everyday. The kitchen was very small and couldn't really be used to produce anything substantial (no oven and only a two burner hob) but then we didn't need to eat at the apartment as the restaurants out and about were superb and well priced with selections of local and western style food. A very pleasant surprise was 'Jacky's Kitchen' (as you leave the building turn left and it's pretty much next door!) This tiny restaurant serves food in the French style and offers an excellent well priced menu. Despite the kitchen being small, it did have a washing machine (essential for a two week stay), a microwave and all the other basic crockery and utensils for preparing and eating snacks/drinks. An unexpected essential was the A/C in all the rooms, as Hong Kong is very humid and it just meant sleeping was that much easier. Bed linen was changed weekly and sets of towels could be provided at an additional cost. The balcony has stunning views but we were warned not to lean on the railing as it couldn't be guaranteed safe. There is no provision for a car, but frankly the public transport system in HK is superb and incredibly cheap, so there's no need for one. We all bought 'Octopus' cards which we topped up every so often. Basically, a no-frills, comfortable, clean apartment!
