1 week in July 09

I stayed at this apartment for a week at the beginning of July. Ocean Heights building is very old and a bit shabby but the interior of this apartment was nice. The pool was nice and clean and not too busy, especially in the mornings. The description of the flat was accurate and it was well maintained and clean. The only concern I had was that I couldn't see a smoke alarm anywhere, and the flat itself is on the 5th floor. Myra was very helpful and lives upstairs on the 6th floor should she be needed. The air conditioning was very useful as the weather was very hot. The windows need to be closed at night due to the nearness of the nightlife which revolves around Casemates Square. Friday night was very noisy until around 4am. The apartment was quiet most of the time. One morning I was woken by the neighbours scraping wallpaper off, but that wasn't until about 10am when I would have got up anyway.
Morrisons is just down the road so food shopping is easy. The prices there are a bit higher than the UK. Other things like eating and drinking out are more or less the same prices as here. There is karaoke at the Alls Well in Casemates on Mondays and Wednesdays. The occasional band is on, but not alot happening on the music front that I could find.
As for days out, there are 2 nice beaches, Eastern beach and Western beach.western beach is hidden.Facing border, turn left straight after runway and follow path.Camp Bay, near Europa is quite nice but pebbly. The little cafe there does a wicked pinchitos. I think it was the previous review that mentioned Rosia Bay, which is actually deserted and run down compared to when it was a swimming club years ago.I think they were getting confused with Camp Bay.
If you go to church, I recommend The Bethel Christian fellowship at 47 Queensway which is very welcoming and friendly. They sing in Spanish and English and you get a hug and a kiss from everyone :0)
If you are going over the border, there is nothing to do in La Linea, so you either need a car or a bus to get to any shops. I walked miles just to see blocks of flats and the occasional bar...very boring. I am told there is a big shopping centre there but when I asked the locals they said there wasn't. You can get day excursions to Marbella and Seville etc. The Seville one only goes on Wednesdays so I couldn't go as that was the day I was travelling.
In a nutshell, I would recommend this apartment and I would certainly stay there again if I was going back to Gib.
