Beautiful Painswick Cottage

Our family had the most wonderful four day holiday at Pathways Cottage! It was the highlight of our three week trip, which included London and Prague. The cottage was exactly as described and exceeded our expectations. It was perfect for our needs - comfortable, well-appointed, quaint, beautifully decorated, and located in an incredibly picturesque town. We really enjoyed having coffee and meals in the conservatory with its view of the koi pond and garden. The beds were comfortable, and it was very peaceful and quiet. There is a small market, conveniently located at the end of the lane, which has an ATM cash machine. We also bought food at a larger market in Stroud, which is a short drive away. One night we enjoyed fish and chips at the pub at the end of the lane. We rented a car in London, which enabled us to explore many of the beautiful villages in the Cotswolds. We also took a day trip to Bath and Stonehenge. We especially enjoyed touring the Roman Baths. Oxford is an easy stop on the way to or from London. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to enjoy the many picturesque walks around Painswick. We will definitely return to this idyllic cottage in the future, but next time we'll spend a week. Our stay couldn't have been more perfect.
Owner's Response: Thank you for such a glowing review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in the Cotswolds, in our cottage here in Painswick:)

A Gem in the Crown of the Queen of the Cotswolds!

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent a fabulous vacation in the Cotswolds where our location in Painswick could not have better. Beautifully furnished cottage is in the center of the most charming village imaginable. Furnishings are quality-comfortable but not fussy. Four people are easily accommodated in the 2-story house. Aga stove is a gourmet's delight and it's clear that a real chef furnished this kitchen. Conservatory not only doubles the size of downstairs living area, but is a sublime place to relax, read, eat, and enjoy the outdoors even in the most inclement weather. We travel a lot and are particular about where we stay, so were delighted with this find. We'll be back!
Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive review. We are delighted you enjoyed the conservatory and AGA.

Perfect Painswick

Just experienced a most relaxing week in the ideal accommodation. Situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Painswick this cottage was the perfect base for a holiday in the cotswolds. It's very well fitted kitchen made it easy to cook a meal and then afterwards you can relax in the lovely conservatory.
Painswick is central to many other towns and villages, of note:
Stroud - with its Farmers Market on Saturdays
Broadway, Burford, Cheltenham are well worth a visit.
For any golfers Naunton Downs and Broadway are highly recommended.
A special thanks to Sally for all her help and information.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much. I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay:)

Oct., 2008 Visit

This Cotswolds cottage is everything that is pictured and much more! The garden is beautiful with hundreds of specimens of flora. The cottage is a perfect home base for a trip to England. It is minutes from Heathrow to the train station and then a short ride to Stroud. We arrived in the early afternoon and took a 5 minute cab ride to picturesque Painswick. The relaxing conservatory is a perfect place to the beginning and end of the day. After depositing our bags, we headed to the Royal Oak for a bit of lunch and to help us stay awake and adjust to U. K. time. The village people were so friendly and knew and spoke well of the cottage owners. Travel from Painswick is easy and inexpensive. One ticket allows you to travel via the bus and train all day! We traveled to a number of other villages in the bucolic Cotswolds and found a Prince Charles painting in Tewksbury, which is also an antique heaven. It is a quick train ride into London for a day of touring. The lovely cottage is relaxing and as comfortable as your own home. You are at home in England. The village boasts a small grocery and of course The Falcon Inn - a must in every English village. In the Falcon, while enjoying great food and drink we even happened upon a local, who had graduated from the renown Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania - about 20 minutes from our home town. We highly recommend this cottage and look forward to being able to rent it once again on our next trip to Jolly Old England.

A home away from home.

Pathways cottage has been my home away from home for the past seven years. It's such a wonderful cottage, providing all the amenities one could possibly ever need or want. It has a beautiful, well-equipped kitchen for those who love to cook, with a fantastic AGA that every "true" English country kitchen should have. A conservatory off the kitchen has windows overlooking the front garden and fish pond, with underfloor heating for the winters, perfect for sitting out in to read or just enjoy the setting. The living room is one of my favourite rooms. It's warm, comfortable and inviting with the fireplace that's so nice to have when it's cold and snowing outside, creating a wonderful atmosphere. There's a television, DVD and CD that supplies everything one would require. The lovely master bedroom, another of my favourite rooms, has a view from the window that overlooks rolling hills dotted with cottages and sheep, and has a comfortable bed and excellent storage space which is sometimes inadequate in holiday rentals. The bathroom is large and updated. The guest bedroom is perfect for two people, and down the hall away from the master bedroom. Pathways truly is a gem.

The village of Painswick is picture postcard perfect. Some visitors from Japan thought Tibbiwell, a beautiful lane, was a movie setting, and had to be shown by a local lady that the homes on the lane were actually lived in! There's a wonderful small antique shop on Tibbiwell that's an absolute treasure trove. Impossible to go into and not find something to take home! There are other small, inviting shops throughout the village that also need to be explored, and two pubs and several restuarants that need to be experienced. Londis, a small market, provides a good choice of food, papers, magazines and necessities. If you don't have a car, the #46 bus comes hourly and takes you to Stroud, Cheltenham, Nailsworth and Gloucester, from which one can take other buses to more towns throughout the area, making Painswick a wonderful base for day trips and sightseeing. To complete the package, there's a small library for those who love to read but don't want to pack heavy books in their suitcases.

So, as you can probably see, I highly recommend Pathways and Painswick for anyone who wants the perfect place to stay, in the perfect English village. Pathways is my home away from home, not just a holiday rental. I feel very blessed and fortunate to have found it....A.L.
