Inmejorable

Riad Zalia

Bob E&W Florida, USA
Review Submitted: June 2, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We stayed at the Riad Zalia as part of a two week trip to Marrakech, Fes and Rabat: our stay at Riad Zalia was undoubtedly a top highlight! The outstanding experience begins even before you board a flight to
Morocco-- your hosts are cooperative and informative about all aspects of your holiday. From the booking process through to logistical (travel and arrival) arrangements, you are guided by the helpful and caring people of Riad Zalia. Once based in Riad Zalia, you are inside the Medina with all major sites within easy distance by foot or by arrangement.

Our group spanned parents to teenagers to young children; everyone was delighted by the Riad. It's fully furnished; so, you may choose to completely cater for yourselves. The Riad Zalia staff will clean and help quietly, without disturbing your peaceful solitude. Alternatively, the staff can cater to you as well as (or better) than a hotel: from home-cooked "room service" to concierge-like appointments. While Arabic is the native language, French is well understood and so is English. We had no communication trouble whatsoever, in English.

The Riad Zalia website is dependable and accurate, although the first in-person impressions remain stunning. The interior shows great attention to detail, in both the selection and the execution of the architectural and decorative features. The Riad is a great combination of sleek modernity with traditional Maghreb flourishes. The facilities are superlative: they are unique in style and rival American sizes in proportions (from the full baths and showers, to the large terrace with its splash pool and sundeck). The kitchen facilities are comprehensive too. The Riad is in a safe environment; and, it's also safe inside (although youngsters must be watched nearby railings, as is true everywhere).

We stayed at the Riad Zalia during April: in the spring time. It was pleasantly warm in the day and cool at night. (We never needed air conditioning.) All the shops, sights and sounds of the souks surround you; but, a 5 minute walk takes you to the edge of the Medina for vehicle access to greater-Marrakech (including the modern Marjane supermarket, for those who are self-catering.)

Guests without access to British pounds or Euros should plan ahead for making payment; but, there are several solutions which your hosts will be happy to discuss with you. The only disappointment with Riad Zalia will be your departure; but, you'll always be welcomed back!

The Perfect Holiday

Fran and Elizabeth The Netherlands
Review Submitted: April 20, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We had a fantastic time at Riad Zalia and in Marrakech. Our stay could not have been more pleasant. Mustapha and Majda are very kind and did all they could to make our holiday both stress free and comfortable. Majda's cookery is wonderful. The Riad is perfect. We made good use of the roof terrace and rested between outings into the Medina. We all want to go again and would definitely recommend Riad Zalia to friends and family.

Fantastic Marrakech Riad

What a wonderful find! A beautiful clean, luxurious riad in the heart of the medina. We were so well looked after with a really personal service. The cook/housekeeper (optional) made a delicious meal which was served on the roof terrace for my parent's golden wedding, making for a really special celebration. The riad is close to all the attractions of the souk, but is very quiet and private inside. It's also a great base for trips to the Atlas mountains. I would definitely stay here again!

Peaceful Retreat

A peaceful retreat right in the heart of the old town - walking distance to everything you want to see & do in Marrakech.
The riad provides all the amenities of a luxury holiday home, while maintaing the feel of a traditional riad - nothing was too much trouble, and the owners only a phone call away if you needed any help.
I would definitely recommend it.

beautiful, elegant, authentic

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful riadh, hidden in the lanes of the old town. It's elegantly restored and is chic and luxurious. It's a great space for relaxing, we spent hours on the roof terrace admiring views over the rooftops, all the way to the Atlas mountains. The shady dining area and chilled plunge pool are perfect retreats from the heat of the day. Majda and Mustapha made us feel at home, cooked some delicious meals when we needed some pampering, and offered suggestions for making the most of the souk and other activities around town. They are on hand when you need them, and completely unobtrusive when we wanted total privacy. The riadh is perfectly located, just a 1 minute stroll away from exotic, hectic, intense Marrakech life, so you can get away from it all just as easily! we had a wonderful stay and can't wait to come back. Next time, a camel ride!

So good I went back...

I loved this property, the way the owners have managed to mix local Moroccon influences with modern and functional, works really well. I went with 3 friends and we found the location fantastic, being in the Souk itself. We had Majda cook us a meal one night and ate on the terrace, the food was really very tasty and the surroundings very peaceful and relaxing. We felt very looked after with regard to Mustapha collecting us from the airport and being on call, he was vey helpful. I have been back since with some other friends. I'd recommend this property to my friends.

Tranquil retreat in the heart of the Medina

My wife and I enjoyed a perfect stay with friends in Riad Zalia over the Easter holidays.

We were greeted at the airport by Mustapha (the house's on call assistant) and were in the Riad just 15 minutes later.

It's in a great location, situated on the edge of the Souk and within walking distance to some of the best restaurants.

The decor is very tasteful - a mix of urban cool and traditional Moroccan, with thoroughly modern amenities, and a view from the terrace, across the rooftops towards the Atlas mountains, to die for!

The house cook Majda cooks up some fantastic meals, as well as serving breakfast and refreshments.

The house would be a perfect stay for both a group of friends or a family. All the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and air conditioning.

Have been twice now and can't recommend highly enough.

Jay
