My husband and I had a fantastic week, and so did our two dogs. There are lots of places to visit within easy driving distance or if you want to stay in. You can just walk through the owners wood (and continue across the fields if you want). There are deer in the woods and a huge variety of birds to watch. The setting of the cottage is amazing and tranquil. The garden is large and completely enclosed, so the dogs cannot wander off. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable. The owners are very helpful and are a good source of local knowledge, history and ideas of things to do. There are several pubs and hotels in the town of Alyth to suit most budgets and the town is unspoilt by tourism. I would definitely recommend it and we have already booked another stay.

The property was immaculately presented and contained everything we needed.
Excellent location ideal base for exploring the area.
We were given a very warm welcome and the owner was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
A fantastic property we would definitely recommend to others.

We have just returned from a week at Birnie Cottage with our 3 dogs – and had a fantastic time!

This cottage is very clean and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need or want.

Having 3 dogs it was very important for us to ensure they would be safe in the garden and the surrounding area. The garden was secure and large enough for them to run around in and behind the cottage there are woods you can walk safely in and allow them off lead to play. Within Alyth, there was another great walk at The Den, which again was safe and has multiple walks of varying lengths.
There are some really nice villages & towns near this cottage should you wish to go for something to eat or just to have a potter round the shops. It is also within close driving distance to some bigger cities for more shopping!
Aileen and Bob made us feel very welcome and we knew that if we had any questions re the Cottage or surrounding area we could ask.

We will definitely be booking another stay at Birnie - so we can relax and Jude, Bracken & Charlotte can meet up with their new doggy friends, Brodie & Paddy!

My husband and I had a wonderful week at this cottage, the owners were very friendly and helpful, we were greeted with scones, rolls, butter and local jam, wine in the fridge and flowers on the table.
The cottage was set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, was immaculately clean and had everything you could possibly need.
We slept so well, in the comfiest bed ever, that we have been out and bought one like it!
Highly recommended, we'll be back!

SPACIOUS HIDEWAWAY IN LOVELY SURROUNDINGS

Review Submitted: August 8, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Birnie Cottage is a spacious, very clean, newly decorated (2009), well equipped hiring set in quiet, wooded private grounds. It offers an ideal launch-pad to some glorious surroundings, with the coast, Glens, Perth, Dundee & the fringe of the Highlands, all within 30 miles.
The owners were welcoming, considerate & thorough, without being in any way obtrusive.
We shall certainly be looking for a return visit.
Strongly recommended.

Alyth is a few minutes drive away; its a pretty, very friendly village with a good range of shops and facilities. The cottage is well situated for a variety of places to visit including castles, gardens and some interesting industrial heritage.
