Cosy farmhouse ideal for family holidays

Etcheberry Borda proved to be a most relaxing environment for a great family holiday. Our two young children loved the house and particularly the garden, which posed no hazards to youngsters, so we could let them play while we chilled out. The DVD player also came in handy at times when keeping the kids occupied.
Tha house is well appointed, in a very quiet area, yet close to all amenities. The Basque region is quite compact, and with the A64 motorway only 12 km from the house, everywhere in the region is easily accessible. We enjoyed day trips to San Sebastian and even Pamplona for Sanfermines, as well of course as closer destinations such as Biarritz, Bayonne and Saint Jean de Luz. We were particularly taken with Bayonne's medieval town centre and the beautiful old Basque centre and seafront of Saint Jean de Luz.
We all slept really well in this house. The beds are comfortable,and the area is so quiet that one seldom even hears a car on the nearby road. We enjoyed watching the numerous birds of prey hunting in the skies above. One day, while rounding a corner near the house, we encountered a pair of baby deer in the road ahead of us.
I think we may return to the Basque region in the future, and if we do, I would be more than happy to rent this property again.

A beautiful house in a very peaceful and quiet neighbourhood.
The house is completely furnished and very cosy.
The beds are good and we slept a lot because it was so quiet.
Nice little villages with good restaurants and ...in 20 min. you are at the seaside.
We like to come back!

Excellent accommodation in a quiet location

Excellent accommodation -- a very airy and modern interior within a lovely traditional Basque house. Very well equipped kitchen (the best we have come across) and two excellent bathrooms. The indoor heating as an optional extra was much appreciated (we were there in mid-April) -- and we made good use of the BBQ, deckchairs and outside dining table. The walk up the single-track road beyond the house provides beautiful views of the mountain peaks, and is especially fine at sunset. The location of the house is perfect -- only an hour from places like St Jean de Luz on the coast and very close to great walks in the mountains (e.g. Mt Baigoura and La Rhune) and interesting places like the Kakouetta Gorge near Ste Engrace and the caves at Istaritz. We found the information provided in the folder very useful, particularly for local attractions such as the Wednesday market at Peyrehorade, which we wouldn't have found otherwise. The other bonus is the lovely lady in the village who looks after the house -- she made our departure very straightforward and is on hand in case there are any problems (we didn't experience any!). A week wasn't quite long enough for us -- so much to explore -- so we hope to be back soon.

The cottage is absolutely lovely with everything that one would need for any length of stay. Beautiful flowers, a bottle of wine and some food essentials made it a very pleasant arrival. The property layout is very well designed so that 6 people would be very comfortable.
The area is very quite with a lovely village near by. The cottage was very convenient to travel to and from the airport, or for trips to any of the towns and the Pyrenees.
Over all, if I am going to the South of France I am staying here!

Etcheberry Borda ist ein idealer Ort um Ruhe zu geniessen und Kraft zu tanken.
Das Haus hat Alleinlage und ist sehr schön eingerichtet, besonders die Betten ein Traum.
In kurzer Zeit lassen sich etliche reizvolle Orte und die Küste von Pays Basque erkunden, dabei gleichzeitig ungestört die Natur geniessen.
Wir haben insgesamt einen schönen Urlaub verbracht, sogar unsere Emy eine Goldenhündin hat sich wohl gefühlt und können das Haus und die liebenswerte Vermieterin nur empfehlen.
Herzlchen Dank für die vertrauensvolle Überlassung Ihres Ferienhauses.

Als alte "Frankreich-Hasen" wollten wir heuer das Pays Basque kennenlernen: eine sehr gute Idee! Nachdem wir uns recht schnell für unser Domizil während der 3-wöchigen Ferien entschieden haben, lief die Abwicklung bis zur Abreise sehr persönlich. Die Unterlagen, die wir über Haus, Anfahrt und Umgebung bekamen waren perfekt und übersichtlich ausgearbeitet. Nach einer langen Anreise glücklich aber müde angekommen wurden wir freundlich erwartet und in ein rundum gepflegtes und sauberes Haus eingeführt. Ein wunderschöner riesiger Blumenstrauß aus Gartenblumen und ein "Willkommenstropfen" erwartete uns ebenfalls. Auf Anfrage bezüglich Abendessen wurde für uns schnell ein Platz im Restaurant im nur wenige Kilometer entfernten Örtchen Bardos reserviert. "Chez Odile" - typisch baskische Küche, hausgekocht, köstlich, freundlich bedient, preis-leistungsgerecht - genau das richtige zum Einstand. (Übrigens auch ein Tipp unserer Vermieter!) Die nächsten Tage hieß es erstmal ausspannen, was auf der schönen Terrasse mit wunderschönem Blick ins Grüne so gut gelang, dass wir uns dann manchmal zum "Sightseeing" richtig aufraffen mussten. Unser Hund, der sich übrigens genauso wohl fühlte, trieb uns dann
allerdings schon raus: Wanderungen direkt vom Haus weg, im nahen Bois de Mixe oder bei Bidache, Urt, Ustaritz... Die Erholung schritt schnell fort und der Taten- bzw. Erlebnisdrang wurde wieder größer: Bayonne, St.- Jean de Luz, San Sebastian, La Rhune (900m Höhe mit toller Aussicht), Pau, Jaca waren nur einige der angefahrenen Ziele - hatten aber aller eines gemeinsam: Freundliche Menschen, gepflegte Häuser und Straßen, wunderschöne Landschaften. Ansonsten luden Garten, Küche, Ess- und Wohnzimmer immer wieder zum Verweilen auf "unserem" Grundstück ein, mehr noch die gut ausgestattete Küche war ideal um die frischen Produkte vom Markt, Bauern oder Fischhändler selbst zuzubereiten und im Abendrot zuhause zu schlemmen. Beim Auswärtsessen hat es uns besonders gut gefallen in Bidart (La Plancha oder Blue Cargo), in Bayonne (Granges) und im Restaurant am Flüsschen (auch ein Tipp unserer Vermieter). Die großen Strände zwischen Anglet und St. Jean de Luz sind zwar alle wunderschön, sauber, gepflegt und Ende Juni nicht überbevölkert aber leider für Hunde gesperrt - man muß auf die Felsbuchten der Corniche zwischen St. Jean de Luz und Hendaye ausweichen. Rundum bleibt nur eines: ein wunderschöner Urlaub - Au revoir Pays Basque!
