Sanet Suite, Seyr Vacations, La Charite-sur-Loire

We love France, and always try to choose accommodation in a town which offers not only plenty of interesting places to visit in the area, but a good choice of eating and watering holes! We were not disappointed on either count. The suite itself was the best we have encountered in many visits. Yes, the town bustles, but this added to our enjoyment. We also appreciated the personal touch by the owners. Nothing was too much trouble. The apartment was immaculate, and the view from the private terrace superb. Must visits are Sancerre, Vezelay, Nevers, Apremont and Bourges. However, the best part was coming home to La Charite and eating out at the excellent choice of venues, all of which came up to expectations. Spoil youself at La Poule Noire, try to finish a "grande" pizza and salad at Le Saint Pa, exchange banter with the locals at the Brasserie du Centre, Sunday lunch at the Hotel de Pouilly, and don't ignore the Seyr Restaurant on the Grande Rue. If all else fails, the nearby Auchan Supermarche offers a wide ranging choice of wines, meals and delicatessen counter. We will have to return to replenish our rapidly diminishing stock of Pouilly Fume and Coteaux Charitois - the latter may not have the illustrious appellation, but we could very easily grow to like it, especially the price direct from the domaine! We would have no hesitation in recommending both the town and the accommodation to any of our friends.

Owner's Response: We love seeing our guests happy and contented. There is so much to do and see in this unspoiled part of France. We live just a two minute walk from the vacation rental so our guests are free to ask us any questions at anytime or ask us for help. Byron and Kelly

A week in La Charite

Review Submitted: August 1, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
My husband, I and my mother-in-law had a wonderful week stay in the Sanet Suite in July. We found the website accurate in their descriptions of the suites. Our apartment was very large, very clean and had all the kitchen facilities needed to make meals that we picked up at the local markets. Kelly and Byron gave us loads of information on what to see and where to eat. Our only problem, was that 1 week was not enough time to explore this beautiful town, let alone the surrounding countryside and all of its chateaus, jardins and wineries! We would have no hesitation in recommending this suite to friends (and in fact have already done so) and would love to come back. Thanks Kelly and Byron!

April in La Charite' sur Loire, France

I and three friends had a most wonderful two weeks in La Charité from April 19 to May 3, 2008. I was fortunate to stay one week in the Benedictine Suite and the other in the Sanet Suite. Both gîtes are extremely charming, very comfortable and clean, and fully equipped with all the conveniences one could wish for. While visiting this medieval town, it is most interesting and educational to walk around the town, viewing the homes, the remnants of the ancient wall, the Loire River and ancient bridge over the river and roaming through the magnificent 12th century Clunic priory church of Notre Dame. On your arrival, your hosts, Kelly and Byron Harker, who are most helpful, will inform you of the many festivals, markets and other events which will be occurring in La Charité and surrounding areas during your visit. It is fun to take in some of these events. The weekly markets are amazing with wonderful cheeses, meats and beautiful fresh and tasty produce as well as many of the other wares of France. The two hour train ride to Paris is very efficient and takes one right into the centre of the city. So you can arrive at 9:30 a.m., spend the day in Paris and return home by 10:00 p.m (or earlier) very easily. There are many wineries where one can participate in wine tasting within a very short drive from your apartment. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful setting of Sancere and its wine museum. In the area are also many Chateaux to visit, restaurants to enjoy and wonderful shopping in the town and in the city of Nevers, just 20 minutes down the road. You will not be without things to do and places to visit. We had a most enjoyable time visiting La Chariteé and the surrounding cities and towns and leaning some of its history. We loved our time in France and will be talking about our holiday for quite some time, with hopes of returning to this historic town again.

Booked for 1 week and decided to stay for 2

My wife stayed in the Sanet Suite for 2 weeks in May 2008. We originally only booked 1 week meeting friends who stayed in the Benedictine Suite but enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed a second week. The Sanet Suite had lots of room and a great balcony that is very private and looks directly onto the old cathederal. It makes you feel like you stepped back in time.
The biggest positives about this location in our minds was it is located right in a town that is big enough to always find something to do but small enough to feel intimate. The location offers enough day trips to stay busy daily for at least 2 weeks and longer if you want to relax. The accomadation was clean, well equipped and way above the level of roughing it with no unwanted surprises.
Our favourate day trip was to La Machine, an old coal mine. My wife only went to humor me and became the biggest advocate of the trip. The amount of history you can explore from this location with short day trips is great not to mention you could spent more than to weeks visiting caves doing wine tasting.
Last and very nice is the owners were very helpful and available while at the same time not intruding. This was a great find.

Two very happy weeks

We stayed in this apartment for 2 weeks in early April 2008. We found the property to be very much as described on its website and overall was clean, comfortable and with a good level of amenities. It is ideally situated in the historic centre of La Charité, with all the sightseeing in this gloriously historic little town, together with shopping, restaurants and the Loire river, within easy strolling distance. Although the apartment overlooks the main shopping street, it is very quiet. With towns and villages like Pouilly, Sancerre, Cosne (don't miss the Sunday food market), Gien (great buying of Gien ware in the factory shop), Clamecy and Vezelay only a short drive away, the apartment's location makes a great base for exploring the history, wine, food and natural beauty of this wonderfully unspoilt area of the Bourgogne and Centre regions of France. Probably the best feature of all though was the ever available friendly assistance with, and interest in, our comfort and our comings and goings from the delightful owners, Kelly and Byron. This apartment has our unreserved recommendation.

August 2007: We had a fantastic time in Charité and loved the apartment. It was the first time we'd stayed in a village, having chosen the apartment based on the website we were very pleased when it lived up to, and exceeded our expectations. I can understand why you have so many repeat visitors and we look forward to being one of them! Johnston (UK). August: 2007: We greatly enjoyed our stay in the Lucarne Suite. We look forward to revisiting! J Roles (UK). July 2007: We loved our week in the Benedictine Suite and have such happy memories of La Charité. Staying close to town and environs as we did, we felt we really got to know the spirit of the place. It would be a great joy to return to La Charité, and the Benedictine Suite one day. C Wild (South Africa). March 2007: Enjoyed all! The apartment, aperitifs, tips, tours, etc. Great hosts. Would certainly come back. Words fail! Great, charming, well situated, well furnished gîte.
