UP ON THE ROOFTOPS

Congleton Cheshire
Review Submitted: September 24, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Spacious and very clean house and convenient for bars, shops and supermarkets which are all within a 10 minute stroll

We did not use a hire car and found that public transport was inexpensive, frequent, reliable and we could get to many places north and south of Oliva such as Denia and Gandia Playa and would have done more were we there longer.

The walk to the beach at Oliva Playa was an easy 45 minute walk and should be ok even for people who do little walking at home

We will definately stay again at this property

Relaxing stay

Review Submitted: July 11, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We had a lovely relaxing stay in your house and found it had everything we needed. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding area and meeting some of your neighbours in the Pelut restaurant! Eileen and her husband were very welcoming and we really appreciated the food starter kit they provided, especially as we arrived on a Sunday when everything was shut. The weather, of course, was superb..

A little gem in the sun.

I have visited this property twice so far, I have taken my mother who is 76 and we have enjoyed our stay on both occasions. The location is ideal for us and I believe it would suit most couples and small families. The property was clean and very homely, it has a very good roof garden where you can have wonderful barbeques and watch the sunset over the town. There are plenty of good restaurants in the town and one in particular, Pelut, which is within two minutes walk of the property, we found the service and food excellent.
There is a good market in town for those of you that like to barter and strike a good bargain. You will need to get the bus or a cab to the beach at Oliva, you will not be disappointed as the beach is excellent, miles of golden sands.
I recommend you hire a car and visit some of the neighbouring towns of Denia, Javier and Calpe to name a few, all within a reasonable driving distance, for those of you a little more adventurous take a trip to Valencia, you will most impressed with the mixture of old and new.
I will be booking this excellent property for 2009, I recommend you book soon as it would be sad if you missed your opportunity to visit this unspoiled area of Spain.

Our Bolthole

This is our annual hideaway, we have visited at the end of October and at Easter (oragne blossom) time. The house is always clean and welcoming. There is plenty of bedding and towels are provided, the kitchen is well equipped and the lounge/diner is comfortable. Both bedrooms have ample storage and hanging space. Our favourite place is on the top roof terrace, eating our evening meal which we cook ourselves - we never eat out - with a good bottle of wine watching the lights come on over the old town and beyond to the sea. Sometimes we get treated to a firework display in the distance but the enjoyment is listening to the sights and sounds of Oliva old town - people chattering away in Spanish down in the street and young people clapping on their way from flamenco classes are a nightly occurence. In the house you have to be able to use stairs and you cannot park outside the house, only in nearby side streets but we have never found this to be a problem, there are a few local shops nearby which sell most things and the new town a few minutes away has a good range of shops, banks, bars and restaurants. The house is part of the local community and the old town is very traditional. There are great beaches and local walks and beautiful mountain drives, the drive to Calpe through the National Park is lovely during the day and very exciting in the dark. Overall, it's just the place to escape to. We are both 55+, active but not fit and we have no problems with the stairs in the house or with the hills in the old town. The only niggle for us is that the cold water pressure in the old town flucuates, this results in the shower becoming too hot or the gas boiler switching off making the water cold, it is difficult to maintain a constant temperature and the bath takes a very long time to fill.

Wonderful place!

Review Submitted: October 9, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
My friend invited me in Agust because I really neded a break and I had five wonderful days away from it all! The location of the flat is great and quite comfortable for four people. Having dinner on the top under the stars can be very romantic, and having breakfast watching the sun rising unbelieblave inspiring and enjoyable. The beaches around are beautiful and nearly empty even on a Sunday! The locals are very friendly and helpful- next door neighbours too. I am Spanish, and I had been many times in Valencia, but never before in Oliva. We fell in love with the place and we'd love to go again. The best bar-restaurant is just two minutes from the front door 'Pelut'. Great service, superb food at reasonable prices in a clean and beautiful place. There is a 'British colony' there, if you miss the language, and wonderful people around. Do not miss the fishmongers, they open at 9.00pm and you can get the freshest cach quite cheap.
Just note there are steep starcaises in the flat- not recommended for the elderly, which is a pity because I would like to take my parents with me next time and they couldn't possibly manage there. Great for the un-injured and the younger (we all need the exercise) Go and relax and have a look at the mediterranean forests and the 'Huerta Valenciana'. It was for us the perfect relaxing and recharging time. Many thanks to the owner for sharing it with all of us and I'll take this opportunity to send our love to 'El Pelut'. Hope see you soon again. Marga

We had a very good time

Review Submitted: October 8, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We had a very good time in Oliva. We had a rental car and took some day tours in different directions and combined that with days on the beach, city tours and so on. Our 9 days disappered quickly..
The house was almost perfect for us, with enough space for our family of 4. But is was very hoot (the first week in July) and we lacked an air-condition. We had also some problems with the fridge, but I know that the owner has replaced that one.
The owner did provide everything we needed as well as excellent service.

A comfotable property with a good BBQ on the roof with grat views of the village. In the heart of the village where you can enjoy an authentic Spanish atmosphere.

Near a really good and economic restaurant and not far from the beach.

Plus helpfull owner with lots of good tips to offer.

Pleaseant apartment

Welsh Wanderer South Wales
Review Submitted: October 8, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
I stayed for a week in this very spacious apartment back in April and had a lovely relaxing holiday.

The roof top terrace was my favourite part of the apartment as it was a fantastic sun trap for sunbathing with lovely views of the village.

The area itself is very quiet and in my experience was too quiet for the time of year we went and found it difficult to find nice places to eat.

All in all a great stay.

GrandPrix Rayleigh
Review Submitted: October 2, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
The property was adequate and met our needs, however it was disappointing when it came to returning the deposit. In my opinion the owner was very unprofessional and rude and not timely what so ever. We would not book this venue again.
Owner's Response: I really value the warm relationship I generally have with people who rent our house - many of whom chose to return. The rentals don’t cover the mortgage but we enjoy the fact that the house is giving pleasure to others, and not just to our own family.
In this case the person was late in paying for her holiday and then became thoroughly unpleasant when I delayed returning her deposit by a few days.
