Just right for teenagers and relaxed parents

Ideal for the teenagers who want to lounge in the large, clean salt-water pool and who do not mind the uneven surfaces - and parents who are not being urged to keep the children amused all the time. House has character, is spacious and cool in the heat. No overlooking houses - only one is some 200 metres away but you would not know it was there. Large uneven garden - pity no places to sling a hammock but cannot have everything.

Would not really recommend it for more than one family and perhaps the teenagers bringing a friend each. There is only one shared bathroom and one ensuite (shower and loo) so guess that with lots of young children and adults the queues could get fractious.

Rooms cool during the day - helped by having one very large living room that rises to the roof creating a good air flow. Beds are somewhat uncomfortable - previous guests have commented and we all were quite stiff each morning but this seemed to wear off towards the end of the stay. Bring your own feather pillows.

Kitchen basic and high ceilinged but quite sufficient for simple but imaginative meals - and given the cost of living in France keeping it simple is kinder to the wallet. A new Carrefour has opened 10 minutes away which allows you to top-up with all the basics on arrival.

Local Boulangerie highly recommended for its rustic baguettes - always buy more than you think you need. They never last to lunch time.

Good local markets (but now not as cheap as they were in the past - they see the Brits coming I think) and head up into the hills north of the river and find a ferme auberge for lunch.

Would definitely return if we head down there again next year.

Truly lovely holiday

We had a fantastic holiday during the last two weeks in July 2009

Our hosts and ther local caretaker could not have taken more care to ensure our holiday was wonderful. The pool is a great size, with pretty landscaping and private, only overlooked by the sunflower field.

The localtion was great, local village with boulangerie and small supermarket, easy drive to a new mega store and Bergerac as well as the main tourist centers of Sarlat, Domme etc. but by being that bit in a 'real house and village' we never felt smothered by high season tourists.

We loved the Bastide towns and went canoeing three times.

Especially recommend the Tarte et Tartines restaurant in Bergerac, Le Chat Perche in Campsegret - both of the hosts could not have been warmer or more helpful to the vegetarians in our party. AquaFun in Tremolat were well equipped and obliging and the owners are english as well as fluent in french.

Bergerac holiday house

This is a fabulous big house inside and out with lots of room for kids to lose parents and visa versa, and being a family of 6 that need arises often. The bedrooms are all well equipped with comfortable beds, wardrobes and still with space for the kids to play there uninterrupted.
The swimming pool was a big bonus as it was a decent size with a shaded seated area too.
The kitchen is very well equipped, basically home from home facilities with plenty of space to eat there too, not that we did of course as the weather was so warm we all ate outside. There is also a large lounge area complete with open fire, comfortable sofas and dining area, but to be honest we never used that room as we wanted to be outside all the time.
The garden is fabulous, the kids were outside all the time either playing or sitting in the shade under one of the many trees, (there was enough for all of us to have our own tree and more.)
The location of the house was on the edge of a small village but we didn't explore that much as we were enjoying the peace and quiet of the house itself. We found it relatively easily and appreciated the folder with things to do in the local area very much.
The property was clean and tidy when we arrived and we would definitely recommend this house to our friends.
We didn't explore many restaurants but enjoyed going down to the river and walking around Bergerac.

Five us spent a relaxing week here in this beautiful house, enjoying the large pool, grounds and peace and quiet. There are plenty of places to visit and things to do nearby - chateaux, wine tasting, canoeing, and the very picturesque Bergerac. We were lucky to have fantastic weather the whole week. Would definitely go back there again.

Not quite as it seems

6 of us stayed at Le Cireysou and most of what you find is exactly as described. The farmhouse is a lovely place, beautiful and tucked down a peaceful country lane where you can enjoy French countryside at its best. We had a wonderful BBQ out on the porch and overall the stay was pleasant.

However, be wary of the extra charges. Having discussed with the owner that we would not use the heating and so would not pay the heating charge, I found that money was deducted from my deposit because they had heated the place before we arrived without asking. Given that we'd specifically requested not to use the heating I think this is quite unfair and would never trust to stay there again.

In addition the front double bedroom smelt almost unbearably of damp (possibly why they put the heating on). We had to sleep with the windows fully open and it was still quite disgusting. I'd advise not using this room if possible.
Owner's Response: We are very disappointed you feel this way and we believe your comments are very unfair. Our website clearly states that heating charges apply from October to May, and therefore in April, during your stay. The reason for this is because our property is an old farmhouse and during the off season it is necessary to thoroughly warm and air the place for each party, as the house is not used consecutively during this period. So whilst the weather during your stay may determine whether or not you choose to use the heating, it is still necessary to use the heating before you arrive, to ensure the house is wlecoming when you arrive. As you booked a short stay we agreed to apportion these charges even though we had to warm the house for the same amount of time, as if you had booked for a whole week.

Regarding the smell in the front bedroom such an issue has never been mentioned in 7 years of rentals.

Le Cireysou - Excellent House and Location

As a group of 6 adults and two children < 2 years, we had a great experience at the House. The location is fantastic and the House and grounds are wonderful. The grounds are well kept and massive. The pool is large for a house pool (pool paving is uneven at the moment waiting for ground to settle). The House is a big, with large living areas and good size bedrooms. There are only two bathrooms which could be a downside if you had 8 people. We were there in August 2008 and had a mixed bag of weather, but when it was hot it was about 30c. Bergerac is only 15 minutes away and has a good market and there are some nice small villages close by with all the essential shops you will need (less than 5 minutes drive). And there is a Supermarket within 10 minutes in Creysse. There is also a good restaurant just past the Village of Creysse on the road to Bergerac. For the wine lover there are some great vineyards nearby. All in all a great experience.
