Just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful weekend in the lodge.
It was just what we wanted - a great location, beautifully decorated
and very well equipped - a really relaxing time was had by all! We
were also extremely lucky with the weather and had a great walk from
Hawkshead out of the book of walks in the cabin (a very thoughtful
touch). K Borthwick, Manchester
Brilliant location, recommend the restaurant on site, superb meal. The Bellamys, Shipley, W Yorks
A real home from home, beautiful views of the lake. J Jackson, Lincolnshire

Lakeside Lodge

Bad smells Hartlepool
Review Submitted: September 3, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Just spent break here with family. It was a very pretty site in a brilliant location. Children loved riding around on their bikes and playing in the river. However we were disappointed with the lodge. When entering the twin bedded room there was a horrible smell, after investigating we found a pair of smelly socks under one of the beds. The smell was that strong that I don't know how the cleaner could not have smelt it. The on-suite in the main bedroom smelt really damp and this over flowed into the bedroom. There was no bedding for the pull out bed in the lounge and we had to phone up and wait for someone to bring some (this bed was very uncomfortable to sleep on).The microwave did not work and when the lady came with the bedding she said the last people had burnt the motor out and she would have to report it. On the top of the letter we received when booking, it says, Luxury Lodge so we were expecting something special. Although we enjoyed our holiday we feel that this lodge needs some extra care and attention to bring it up to the standards of what we would expect a luxury lodge to be.

Feed the ducks!

4 adults,2 kids Northallerton
Review Submitted: August 26, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We have just spent an excellent week in the cabin. Lots of space for 2 children, 8 and 6, to play in and out of the cabin.
Internal quibbles - not much storage space in small bedrooms, spotlights not working in dining area and the under cabinet lights in kitchen were a bit dodgy.
Plus points: the proximity to the lake even if this summer there are lots of leaves around and not much sunshine, lots of ducks and swans to feed, a place for hardy souls to paddle safely in the lake.
Minus points: Very little to do on site. The play area is really for young children and the cost for using the pool was a shock. Consequently we didn't use it. We could have done with a few more cooking pots for the 6 of us.
All in all this was a beautiful place to spend a holiday. Lots of tourist hotspots very near(although the roads can be a bit hairy) and a warm, clean welcoming cabin to which to return.

A very pleasant week.

Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Stayed in this lodge for a week and had a very relaxing time. Other reviews mention the uncomfortable matresses but can confirm that this has been put right - brand new, extremely deep and comfortable matresses arrived half way through our stay and my tall, teenage boys said they were excellent. Reviews also mention the lodge being under shady trees which is true, and unfortunately with the leaves on the trees at this time of year the view of the lake is not as good as it might be. However, I think you'd be hard pushed to find accommodation much closer to the lake and my husband who loves to sail was delighted with the close proximity of a launch point so close to the lodge. Really loved the sound of the stream which runs close by. The evening shade did not stop us enjoying several bbqs on the ample decking and given we were out most days the shade was not that much of a problem. Only very minor gripe was that there were no hooks to hang anything on - this would make life much easier in the bathrooms and bedrooms!
Site facilities were good - swimming pool, shop, bar etc.
All in all a good stay and would use again.

lodge with lake view

Just to say this is a lovely lodge which was clean and equipped with all you need. The only downside was that from the picture of the lodge it looked as though it had a bright outlook and that the sun shone onto the lodge, however, the lodge is completely covered to the front with a huge oak tree that keeps the outside dull at all times with only streams of light coming in. The decking area and furniture could do with a good clean too.

A Break that lives up to expectations

Review Submitted: July 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Spent a break here after coming across it by acident trawling through website
.As it states its near the the waterfront[take plenty of bread for the ducks].
The lodge itself is set under trees so dont expect to sit in the sun,its a pity it doesnt mention this,as when it rains[and often does ,thats why the lakes are there]the decking can be slippy.
But as previously stated its location is great, with a small marina[where the rich folks moore their crafts].
The inside is suprisingly spacious without feeling cramped and feels like home from home, with all mod cons.
The single bed mattress,s were of poor quality and badly need replacing as you can feel the springs sticking through, however the double bedroom mattress was excellent .
We did have to clean around the place on arrival just to spruce it up a bit as there were cobwebs all over the outside, dirty windows ,uncleaned barbeque, etc.
The spotlights in the living area didnt work and my biggest fear was under all the decking there was a vast amount of dried leaves that could easily be ignited if stray embers from the barbeque fell on them or anyone that smokes.
However ,please do not let the above put anyone off,i have listed the nit picking issues, but overall we thoroughly enjoyed the experience of staying in an area of outstanding beauty and given the chance would go back tomorrow, nice and quiet, a place where the average person would dream of owning, such is life.

Lovely Cabin

Review Submitted: March 31, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
Lovely cabin, great position near lake yet still close to the main reception. Nicely maintained inside, there were a few cigarette ends stubbed out on the decking outside when we got there which was a shame. The only downside about this great cabin are the mattresses. They were awful. We didnt have one decent nights sleep, the mattress springs stuck into you all night!

Get new mattresses and we would definitely make this a regular holiday venue!
