now absolutely perfect

Review Submitted: October 12, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
We have stayed at the Sheepfarm End of September and Irene & George have told me that they close the Dog & Cats-Home by the End
of October 2009. After that this is a very quiet location, close to the city and still rural. An ideal place to stay in Switzerland as it is centrally located in the Country, easy access to the highway.
Owner's Response: Hello Tschäsi
yes, it is true, from November 1, 2009, the holiday home for dogs and cats will be closed down - so everybody is welcome to enjoy a very quiet holiday at the former Sheepfarm. Great view, close to the city and in the midst of surrounding mountains - what else do you want from a Swiss Holiday?

We had a wonderful time staying in the cottage last February 2008 (for 2 weeks). It was a most memorable experience and something our entire family will never forget. The location is ideal for travel throughout Switzerland. The train to Luzern runs regularly, giving us great connections to our many other destinations (such as the Basler Fasnacht). The cottage was very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. We could come and go as we pleased without any problems. Irene and Georg were the perfect hosts, and made us feel welcome. The view from the cottage was unbelievable, and even though it was cold during that time of year, the walk up to the cottage (from the train stop) was very pleasant and enjoyable. We will certainly never forget our Swiss adventure, and highly recommend this property. Our family still talks of our vacation often, and we dream of staying there again. Irene and Georg, we send you our best wishes, from: Eileen, Marcel, Yvette, Chante, and Adrian, from Salt Lake City, Utah USA

PS. The dogs were no problem at all!
Owner's Response: Hello Marcel and Family....wowww, you sure took time to write...it's one year already that you were staying with us and I remember you very well...specially because you told us at the time that you went to the world known Basel Fasnacht....It's Fasnacht time again and we also had the first Sheepfarm Sunday Afternoon Concert last sunday. Thanks for giving us a good review, specially so long after you stayed here, which means you have not forgotten us. All the best to you and we hope to see you sometimes...Irene, George and the 2- and 4-legged Sheepfarm Crew

We have been at the „Sheeparm“ 3 times so far and will be back in two years. It is sad to see that people don’t realise, what opportunity they have to even be able to rent such a place – in an area where a property like this is usually kept private. It is located in one of the most prestigious and expensive areas in Switzerland. To be so close to Lucerne, which is simply beautiful and the most visited tourist city in Switzerland, makes this a dream come true. And - even for a reasonable price, if you compare with the hotels in the Lucerne area. Irene & George have always been helpful when we asked them about anything. George is a weather expert and he has prevented us several times of taking an expensive mountain trip with bad weather in sight, which we would not have realised. We stayed in both properties and they are well equipped, over the usual standard (we have also stayed in other places). For someone exploring the sights – the dogs are NO object as it is hard to find nights which are as quiet as the Sheepfarm – away from any traffic. The Sheepfarm is a perfect stay – but yes, I agree, it is not the perfect stay for someone who wants to mainly stay at the Farm during their holidays. We were lucky to be there while a Sunday Afternoon Concert was programmed and we will ALWAYS remember this concert as an incredible touching musical experience. Thank you again Irene & George – Ernie, Sarah, Minnie, Claude
Owner's Response: Hello Ernie & family - thanks for your very positive review. It's great to see that there are people around who can as well express satisfaction and positive aspects of a holiday. We are looking forward to your Sheepfarm stay in spring 2010. Don't forget to bring your GPS so that you will find your way through the Swiss Backroads, as you love to drive around where not everybody is going. And - you had enough "driving adventures" in the past. By the way, we are looking also forward to meet your new daughter in law..Greetings Irene & Crew

This apartment is very spacious clean and very comfortable. There are fantastic views of Lake Lucerne and the Alps from the Lounge, children's room, part view from the master bedroom and the terrace. The apartment also overlooks part of the village.Visitors are most welcomed to have access of the grounds. We stayed at the apartment from June 2006 14 days, June 2007 14 days, and May 2008 14 days. Temperatures were between 25-28 Celsius very warm beautiful weather. You will find Irene and Georg very nice people.Irene can speak English, French, German, Italian, and some Spanish very well. Georg can also speak English, German, French, and some Italian. They are both extremely helpful, and if you need anything you only need to ask.As to the boarding dogs they are in a very secure compound and cause no problems to visitors and when entering the apartment you have your own private access, where the dogs can be seen in the corner of their compound near to the access stairway you will find they greet you with a few barks, this is understandably their way of saying Hello, it is amazing how they all gel together they are so happy they are on holiday too, given the care and attention of Georg and Irene and their very well trained staff. The animals arise at 7.00am for their food, you hear a bark or two but then immediately silenced by the staff.Lorna and I are both light sleepers and was not disturbed by this. When the dogs are taken to their exercise grounds they are always escorted by Georg and his staff.Even if you are not a dog lover I think you will be very surprised the way the animals mix together and on occasions find it quite hilarious. As a touring base it is a very central part of Switzerland with beautiful cities such as Zurich Bern, the Capitol not to be missed Basel Interlaken Lucerne just 15 minutes away, the rest all within an hour or so by train journey. The Swiss people are wonderful and helpful with a range of languages spoken. We always purchase a Swiss Travel Pass from the SBB.ch the pass covers all travel, trains bus boat and some Museums free entry. We have been taking self catering holidays for 23 years and this one is very hard to beat it offers something for everyone. On our travels through Switzerland we have met a lot of other tourist from all parts of the world people from Australia US. Canada Japan and China. I know Irene and Georg have had guests from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, US, GB, Europe etc. It receives a full 5 star rating from us.

sheep farm apartment

An excellent place for a holiday. Beautiful views from the apartment, a delightful rural setting with the tinkling of cow bells in the background. A short, stunningly beautiful walk to the local station only 17 mins by train from Lucerne from where you can get anywhere. (We relied on public transport with a family of four for the whole holiday and got to all sorts of lovely places really easily). Lucerne itself is delightful and beautifully set on a huge lake and overlooked by vast alps.

The apartment was exactly as we were led to expect. The information given was good. It was very comfortable, clean, attractive, well maintained and well equipped (except serving spoon and microwave!). The apartment is on the second floor of a traditional style Swiss house so only to be recommended for those happy with getting up stairs. We are a tall family and had to bend over in some parts of the apartment, but this did not bother us as much as we might have expected. For families there are no games facilities, but being out and about a lot, that did not matter too much to us. The swimming pool was tiny and cool; only good enough for swimming in tight circles, but the views compensated.
Dogs are looked after on the farm and barked only with new arrivals and at feeding time. The rest of the time they were happy and quiet and always well controlled behind a good fence. In spite of us not being dog lovers they did not bother us at all.

The owner was not intrusive, but was helpful when we asked about local information and looked things up on the internet for us. Her English is excellent.

There is a decent small supermarket in the attractive village with fresh bread and deli counter. There is a lovely spot for bathing in the lake - initially cold, but beautiful and refreshing. The village is a stop off for one of the boats that runs on the stunningly beautiful lake.

A great area for people who like mountains and walking and can bring themselves not to feel guilty going up by cable cars. All the wonder of the amazing scenery with as little or as much effort as you want. With the exception of the very highest peaks the area was very un-touristy. We mostly saw Swiss people wherever we went.

We'd thoroughly recommend the place to people who are reasonably fit, who love unspoilt rural scenery and yet want a place that is well connected. We'd go back again.
Owner's Response: Thanks for your comment. Sorry, you did not ask for a Serving Spoon or Microwave as the oven is also a microwave and I could have easerly explained. There are many children's games in the side-room's closet and there are as well english DVD's available. Unfortunately sometimes people who stay longer move things to other places and until someone needs it again, may be lost temporarily. Swimning pool even has a sun-collector but the weather this July kept changing from very hot to VERY cold and temparature is a very individual thing. For me it is also too cold, for others who expect to be refreshed it is ok. It needs to warm days and then it's up to a comfortable temp. You see it very clearly, we like to give our guests privacy, but we are here, if they ask for something in our "office hours". The story in the village is open on sundays when every else is closed...and sorry that also the lake is not the highest in temparature this year...but still a lot of people ARE swimming. To be correct, we do not have a lot of people who like to walk. We have more guests who are going to the many tourist places in Switzerland, as we are centrally located - and it does not matter if they are here by car or by train. A minimum of fitness is only request IF you are traveling by train and are walking up and down several times a day Good luck to you and we hope to see you back some days.

we came with great expectations and were not disapointed at all. What a beautiful place to stay - overlooking the village & lake into the Swiss Alps - postcard Switzerland! Everything WE needed was on place and George's weather tipps were top...he prevented us to go on a mountain top to see nothing and when he recommended to go - we had the most beautiful view to see around. Train station is in walking distance and do-able. There are friendly animals around - dogs, cats, rabbits, ginny pigs, sheep and cattle in viewing distance. Walking distance to the lake for real swimming and a small cool-off pool on the property. Well equipped BBQ-area with separate toilett - so no need to go back to apt. Great view from EVERYWHERE on the property. We really enjoyed our stay

Dear Irene & Georg,Our stay at your cottage last May (2002) was one of our best and most memorable vacations. Sarah & Emily still talk about the cottage and they loved all the dogs (Tschäsi was their favorite!). Emily, now 4, often asks if we can go to 'Swisserlenze' for the weekend!! The cottage was exactly as you described on the web site; it was very charming, comfortable and had all the comforts of home. Eating outdoors looking at the beautiful scenery was truly a highlight. The cottage was an excellent base for day trips, and Georg's weather predictions were 100% accurate. Many, many thanks to you for all the excellent advice via email before we arrived. You helped make the trip such a success. We really appreciated your recommendations to see things that were off the tourists' path! We've been recommending the cottage to our friends. You live in a beautiful part of the world and we thank you for sharing it. All the best to you and George;
