Villa Caretta - Kalkan, FANTASTIC

WJ&K Guisborough
Review Submitted: June 23, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
From the start of the process, in enquiring about the holiday, to booking & taking the holiday you could not wish to deal with a more helpful & trustworthy couple as Dick & Jenny.
There is always a few nerves when you land at the airport, will the prearranged taxi be there? will the villa meet expectations? Well the taxi was waiting for us as planned and when we met Tracy (the local contact) at the Villa we were thrilled, when we were shown around. The photos & description were accurate, but in fact reality was better! The property was spotlessly clean and more spacious than we imagined. There had been a minor water leak in a bathroom prior to our arrival. This had been resolved quickly & effectively by Tracy. This gave confidence, that in the unlikely event that a serious problem occured it would be dealt with speedily.
Each day Rambo the pool man came and ensured the pool was kept spotlessly clean. The mature gardens were well maintained and gave privacy.
Tracy the local contact was extremely helpful & gave lots of worthwhile advice. Her husband Captain Ali operates a boat & our day out on the Zeus was a highlight of the holiday. Captain Ali, or should that be Chef Ali cooked us a fantastic meal onboard the Zeus. We had a lazy day snorkelling at various points around the bay.
The property is on a hill. This affords lovely views of the town & the bay. It takes a leasurely 15- 20 min stroll into the town & harbour. We enjoy walking so the stroll back up the hill was not a problem. Some people may prefer to use a taxi & these are in abundance and are cheap to use.
People of limited mobility may find the steep & uneven roads a problem.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this property to a friend. I am sure, having found this gem of a villa I will make repeat bookings.
There are over 200 restaurants in Kalkan and our favorites include the Mussaka, the Aubergine, Sun Terrace & Ilyada. The food in every restaurant was to a good standard.
There are plenty of activities to do should you wish to leave the sanctuary of your villa, but we were looking for a relaxing, romantic week in the sun and this was perfect.

Owner's Response: We are glad that you had such a good time in our villa and we would be more than happy to welcome you again. If you would like to return please be aware that our bookings start quite early. For the 2009 season we receivede the first enquiries in November 2008 and half of March 2009 we were almost fully booked. Each consecutive year we have more repeat customers and more early bookings.

This was our first visit to Turkey and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The villa was just great - it gave me and my teenage sons all the space and facilities we needed. The villa contained everything we hoped for and more; it was very well maintained - we were happy to spend time there and lounge around the beautiful pool. It is a pleasant walk into Kalkan from the villa - we did this there and back every day with a couple of taxis back when it was really hot. The air conditioning was excellent.

When we arrived we were looked after by Tracy who settled us in and booked a couple of trips for us - this got the holiday off to a great start.

There is as little or as much to do as you like; we particularly loved our day- long boat trip across the bay. We also enjoyed our visit to Salikient Gorge and trying out the many restaurants around. It was a very refreshing and relaxing holiday.

From the moment we booked Villa Caretta, Jenny&Dick were very helpful; they gave us lots of advice and information about Kalkan before we even got there, and arranged our transport from the airport to the villa and back.
Once we arrived at the villa,we felt at home the villa and the pool were immaculately clean and well maintained the villa inside was well equipped. The photos and description of the villa were accurate and when we arrived the reality was much better. The Villa is situated on a hill and the scenery was breath taking, absolutely amazing.
The pool was amazing;we spent so many wonderful hours me and my family were thrilled, the garden area was well maintained and gave privacy to the pool.
Tracey who looked after the villa was very helpful and gave us useful advice about the places in Kalkan to visit and restaurants where we could eat at. Her husband Captain ali owns a boat, and on our boat trip on Zeus was the highlight of our holiday.Visit to Saklikent gorge was a thrilling experience. We had wonderful day trips to Patara, and Kaputas beach. There is so much to see,we would love to come back and see more of this beautiful place. The views from the villa are wonderful, and its a peaceful and relaxing place .
If me and my family were to go to Kalkan again we would definitely book Villa Caretta, because our experience was amazing.Thank you dick and jenny for sharing your villa with us.

Villa Carretta, Kalkan: A perfect holiday

Holiday Novice Gloucestershire, UK
Review Submitted: October 5, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Not having been abroad on holiday for about 8 years I was looking for somewhere safe, relaxing and very sunny which would suit my daughter and her boyfriend (in their twenties) as well as me. Kalkan and Villa Caretta really were the ideal solution! Everything was perfect - from the minute my booking was accepted, Dick and Jenny did everything they could to ensure that our stay went smoothly and, once we arrived, nothing was too much trouble for Tracey who looked after the villa and was able to help with so much advice on the best places to eat, swim and shop, and the best tours to take! The villa and pool couldn't have been cleaner or better equipped - absolutely everything you could possibly want was provided. The BBQ on the roof terrace made eating in just as good as eating out, and having your own pool makes all the difference.

Kalkan is small enough to be welcoming - the people are so friendly - but big enough for there to be something different to see and do every day. We were able to enjoy sailing, canoeing, river rafting and horse riding, as well as lazy days on the fabulous Patara beach, and tours of ancient sites. We chose not to hire a car but it's still easy to get around either by the local buses or taxis. We were surprised that the weather was as humid as it was during our first week, but I think this was unusual and, by the second week, it had become much more comfortable (but still of course very hot); there is air conditioning in the villa if it gets too much! The town is built on the hillside, which is what makes it such a pretty place, and there are many steep roads and steps so it wouldn't be easy for people with limited mobility. It was perfect for us though and one of the best holidays we've ever had, so we would recommend it to anyone.

Owner's Response: We are happy that you enjoyed your holiday so much. As you say Kalkan really is a very pretty place with enough different possibilities to see and do every day.

Have just spent two great at Villa caretta in sept 08, it was the best holiday I have had. The villa has everything you would need and tracey who welcomes you is great, the pool area is cleaned every day and pool checked.
It is very quite area and near all resturants and bars. There is noisy night clubs, just a great relaxed atmosphere in the local town.
Area is very hilly and would recomend a taxi to get back to the villas, it only costs £2 - £4.00..

Kalkan, Villa Caretta

Review Submitted: July 21, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
From the time we booked the villa, the owners were extremely helpful, even sending us a booklet on the area prior to arriving. The villa and Kalkan was a relief after Istanbul which was a typical big overcrowded city. Our stay was made more comfortable by the excellent service provided by the property managers who took care of any problem, however minor. Once we got used to the winding roads and Turkish road etiquitte, we visited many attractions near and far which were both informative and spectacular. Beaches were good with the best being Kapitas about 5 minutes drive from Kalkan. Do take a day boat trip and go snorkelling or just swim in the Mediterranean. We found Kalkan to be quiet (without noisy early morning revellers) but alive with people till late at night.
For us, we would certainly return given the assistance, welcoming and guidance by all associated with the villa, and the scope of activities at hand.

Written on 11th August 2007 in Guest Book: Coming to the end of our holiday now and having had such a good and relaxing time we are all feeling so much better. Dick & Jenny thank you so much for the use of your lovely villa again. Tracy thank you so much for your help and of course thanks to Rambo who kept the pool lovely and clean & clear for us.

We discovered 2 of the beach clubs this year, both very different but lovely to spend time in, especially Palm Beach Club. However Kalamar Beach Club offers scuba diving at a very reasonable rate and Phoebe (11yrs) loved this experience, and for Imogen (15yrs) there was internet access!

Did Saklikent Gorge again and this time went through the freezing water. Some enterprising children will hold your hand and help you through the rapidly running river! We walked almost to the end. Some parts are quite tricky but a young student "picked us up" and helped us get to the end of the walk and back. This was brilliant, we would never have done it without him and we are very glad we achieved it. Tlos fish farm for lunch after that - lovely.

Also went on the sunken city trip. Perfectly nice day out on a boat, with lots of swim stops and excellent food. View of the sunken city takes minutes only, so don't be disappointed.

Favorite restaurant: Odak restaurant - above the turkish delight shop on the left as you walk into town. Excellent in all ways with no silly frills.
But all restaurants we tried were good.

Kalkan town is so pretty and friendly. The weekly market is fun to wander through and there are some bargains to be had.

We will be back again sometime, we just love this villa and the town, and it has been a pleasure communicating with you both by email and telephone.

Terry
Owner's Response: Hi Terry and Stephan,

Thank you so much for the review you submitted after your second stay in our villa. We enjoyed receiving the beautiful pictures you sent us and hope to meet you all during your next visit to Holland.
When we were still in Kalkan earlier this week Rambo mentioned that he missed you this year.

With kind regards,
Jenny & Dick

Dear Jenny & Dick

Just a quick note to let you both know we had a fantastic holiday in Kalkan. We fell in love with the villa when we first saw the picture on the internet, and it more than lived up to our expectations. Everything was clean and comfortable and we felt really "at home". It is certainly one holiday villa we would consider returning to, and the girls loved the pool!.

It was great to be able to share a meal with you on our first evening, and be introduced to the Sun Terrace Restuarant. We had several return visits and little Vicky became loved by all the staff! We also enjoyed eating at Jasmine Garden and the Old Trading House (slightly more expensive, but excellent quality).

We visted many interesting places during our stay...including doing the Saklikent Gorge walk twice! Also enjoyed Xanthos, Phaselis, the fires of Mount Olympus and driving up into the mountains at Elmali.

With best wishes
