Stunning Views from a Luxurious & Homely Property!

Sue & Jay Surrey, UK
Review Submitted: May 13, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
Once off the main highway, and you've followed the winding roads through the hillside and the tunnels, you find the secluded private hilltop property of Villa Miradouro. The gardens are beautifully set on 3 levels ... we were spoilt for choice in an evening whether to watch the sea views from the rooftop terrace, the house top balcony, the swimming pool terrace, or the BBQ walled garden terrace. The attention to detail in the property is fabulous and everything was spotlessly clean, new and fresh - it was as if I'd walked into my own home, the views from the master bedroom balcony are simply stunning. Perfect for utter relaxation, cleanliness, privacy and luxurious comfort. You need a car here, as the island has so much to offer - but don't even think of going to Madeira if you want noise, crowded sandy beaches, childrens adventure parks, late night bars, nightlife or rowdy neighbours - it is none of these thankfully, but you have to be prepared for that, and this area lends itself to those that are looking for a quiet, refined holiday with great restaurants a short drive away, good day trips out, and all the luxury you could ever want in a stunning property. The pool is large and ideal for swimmers, rather than very young children. Our children were 5 and 7 but good swimmers which meant that they enjoyed the pool. Younger children would need constant watching.
Owner's Response: Dear Sue and Jay,

Glad to hear that you and your family thoroughly enjoyed exploring Madeira and the luxury settings the Villa has to offer.

Although the pool is 10 Metres long, the first 2 Metres are at 90cm in height before it starts slopping towards the deeper end. In the property description we inform our renters that due to the pool and verandas for safety reasons we recommend parental supervision at all times where young children are concerned.

Absolutely idyllic

If you want to relax in a lovely, clean, well maintained villa with breathtaking scenery and friendly people nearby then this is the best place I have ever been on holiday for all of these. I could not recommend Villa Miradouro highly enough, nor have I relaxed so quickly and easily on holiday for quite some time.
If you are after alot of nightlife then give Madeira a miss. Personally the lack of it made this beautiful island a pleasure to be visiting. I will definitely be returning again when life gets the better of us and we need to relax (without kids would be good next time as it is a very romantic place.)
The winding roads up the mountains take some getting used to, thankfully the majority of locals are patient and understanding with tourists. Calheta beach is lovely for relaxing and the whole island is worth exploring for the lovely views.

Visited Madeira/Villa Miradouro in May and can only use superlatives to describe the villa and the island. The villa totally exceeded our expectations and the island is stunning. The property was spotless, extremely comfortable and the 180 degree views of the Atlantic were just amazing.
We have every intention of returning and we can see why you have so many bookings.
Certainly the best villa we have ever rented.
Many thanks John. You have found a real gem in Maria.
PS. We loved Cookie.

Wonderful, relaxing, amazing views

If you are looking for a 'get away from it all' holiday then this is definitely for you. The villa is located at the end of a road, at the top of a cliff, with amazing views out to sea and the most breathtaking sunsets. The pool and gardens are beautiful and relaxing. The villa was exceptionally clean and comfortable with everything one could possibly need and the welcome from Maria (the housekeeper) and her son was very informative and helpful.

We were very lucky in early June to have wonderful sunny weather with no rain at all. If you can drag yourselves away from the fantastic villa the Madeira driving is challenging and scary but worth it. The levada walks are easy and flat and often take you through lush green forests and hills.

I cannot recommend this villa highly enough.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for your outstanding review, it gives us all great pleasure when receiving such rewarding comments from our guests that so highly appreciate all the efforts and dedication from everyone including our friendly housekeeper Maria who is a true asset to the management of the Villa and customer care always ensuring the Villa is thoroughly cleaned and the lush gardens and pool are well maintained for our guests full enjoyment.
The Villa offers fabulous endless sea views with romantic sunsets complimented by an eternal tranquillity to all those seeking a restful holiday.
Delighted that you enjoyed Madeira and it would be wonderful to have you all staying at the Villa again in the future.

We were pleased to find the Villa to be even more magnificent than the photos. The grounds and home are impeccably clean & maintained. The view from the veranda is spectacular and not obscured by other residences. From this tranquil and serene location, it felt as though the ocean belonged to us. The owner provides exceptional customer service both before and during the stay. We have already recommended this property to several friends.

As we arrived the villa was even more than we expected.

Maria ,the housekeeper showed us everything and did everything to make our stay more comfortable.
Though the wetter wasn`t that good the first three days ,we didn´t mind much as we felt really at home in the villa.

We will go there some other time for sure.
Owner's Response: Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your great review with regards to your high satisfaction with the Villa standards and Maria our dedicated Housekeeper superb efforts to make our guests feel very welcome at the Villa.
Unfortunately the weather over Christmas was unsettled with a higher than average rainfall for the time of the year however I am pleased to know that it didn’t stop you from enjoying your holiday in Madeira.
We look forward to have you staying with us again in the future.

Heaven in September

Review Submitted: September 21, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
My partner and I have just returned from one week at Villa Miradouro. If you think the villa looks stuning from the photographs, truct us, in real life, it far surpasses any photographs. Th estandard of accomodation was superlative. There honestly wasn't a single thing that we could have improved.
Be aware, the driveway is VERY steep, and the roads can be a little daunting, but we loved every minute of our stay in Madeira, Funchal is quite simply, charming.
We met Maria often, no sign of Marta though, but in one crisis when the power went off (local area failure it seemed) she was most helpful and reassuring on the end of the phone.
Would we return? Almost certainly if we want another relaxing, tranquil, and scenic holiday in a stunning villa.
If anything, we were surprised to find that in nearby Paul Do Mar, and also in Jardim do Mar, there was very little touristy stuff - not even a shop (apart from the one mini supermarket) This side of the island is certainly unspoiled

Mick and Hazel
Owner's Response: Dear Mick and Hazel,

It was our pleasure having you stay at Villa Miradouro and we are delighted you found it to be the perfect unspoilt location with fabulous scenic views.
The driveway stands at approx 25M from the entrance door with good wide tyre tracking surface and it's zigzag layout shape facilitates the descent.
Maria is our housekeeper and Marta is the Villa manageress, she is readily available should guests encounter any difficulties or require information.
Although there are some bars, restaurants and a mini Supermarket in the nearby villages, the town of Calheta is within 15 minutes drive offering a wider choice and a Marina.
It would be wonderful to have you staying at the Villa again in the future.

Sometimes it's hard to add to what has already been said about this villa and we can only reiterate those who have mentioned the quality and high standard of the property and it's furnishings. It was such a delight in the morning to open the patio doors from the master bedroom and face the expanse of sea and also in the evening to see the differing sunsets. The pool was well utilised and it was great to be able to stay out in the sun till approx 9pm.
We will return.
Owner's Response: Dear Guest,

Thank you for your great review, it is fantastic to know that you all had a wonderful time at the Villa and enjoyed the luxury settings and memorable views it has to offer.
We look forward to welcome you all in the future

quite simply, the most amazing house.....!

What can we say? We're seasoned villa renters across the UK and Europe and Villa Miradouro is without doubt the most amazing house we have ever stayed in.

The house exceeded our expectations and was excellent value. Location is superb - remote but not too isolated with facilities only a short drive away. The spacious design & layout of the house allows natural light through it all day, but the tinted windows and gentle sea breeze keep things cool, even in August.

Kitchen is top spec and had all we needed. Furniture all high quality and very comfortable. All rooms were kept spotless by Maria the friendly & helpful housekeeper. Gardens absolutely beautiful and the BBQ annexe and area is a great chill-out space too.

Swimming pool was lovely and just the right temperature; clean and safe for a (supervised) young family. We also spent hours lazing in the hammock and sun-loungers.

We spent many happy evenings on the balcony enjoying wine and spotting whales and dolphins (take good binoculars though!)

Self-catering is not a chore in this house. We spent every day of our stay at the villa; we just didn't see the need to go out.

Our abiding memories of this house are the amazing seaviews, the space, light and peacefulness of the place.

We cannot recommend it highly enough!

Cooking on the wood burning barbecue was great fun and we suffered no problems with the smoke.
