Wonderful

Date of Stay: May 2009
We stayed at Villa Tukad in May and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff at the villa made every effort to ensure our stay was relaxed, trouble-free and enjoyable, and they succeeded in every way.
The villa is clean, well maintained, cosy and totally peaceful, and the local wildlife extremely interesting to watch, from geckos to butterflies to birds. And what a fantastic pool!
I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for families with young children as the villa is not especially childproof for those under 2 or 3. The ponds, stream and pool are all easily accesible for a curious toddler; the stairs are steep with no handrail or guard and the terrace is not fenced.
We also found this a bit farther than we thought from some places thanks to the Bali traffic mainly. A trip to Seminyak would take anywhere from 30 mins to an hour.
Overall I would recommend this villa to enyone seeking relaxation, which you will find in spades. The personal service leaves you feeling very well looked after and the cooking was amazing.
Thanks to everyone at Villa Tukad for our great holiday.

Owner's Response: Toddlers in Bali villas: you will find that most villas in Bali have unfenced pools and ponds. If you want to stay in a private villa it is necessary to keep an eye on little ones or ask one of the staff to do this for you - we can arrange full-time babysitters to do this for longer periods. The terrace now has a fence and the door to the stairs can easily be closed and locked. Other families staying at the villa have not mentioned this as a particular problem (please see other reviews). On the other hand, there is no danger of children being snatched or running into the road, as the gardens are completely private and secure with two-metre perimeter walls.
Driving to Seminyak: Seminyak (starting from Cafe Warisan) is about 12 kilometres from the villa and can be reached in 20 minutes - there are short cuts and ways of avoiding the worst of the traffic - ask the staff or use an experienced driver. The road around Kerobokan (past Bali Buddha and Cafe Mocha) has recently (July 09) been improved and this makes a big difference. The problem is not so much the distance as the traffic in Seminyak itself where it can take more than 30 minutes to get from Cafe Warisan to Legian beach. Top tip is to avoid the rush hour (4:30-6:00 pm). Heading North, East and West from Villa Tukad there are lovely traffic-free drives to Ubud, Tanah Lot, Bedugul and North Bali. If you stay in Seminyak you always have to confront the traffic wherever you go! But if want to be in the midst of the tourist action and the traffic every day then a hotel resort in the Kuta/Legian/Seminyak strip might suit you better.
