THE PERFECT HOLIDAY

Bee and Tom Portsmouth, UK
Review Submitted: March 2, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
We spent an absolutely fabulous week in this fantastic property. We loved Vejer and we were very happy to return to La Piconera after every trip. After renting houses Spain for several years, we can honestly say that no-one has taken as much trouble as the owner of this house in restoring with such taste while retaining character.

The house was spotlessly clean and everything has been thought of. The accommodation is very comfortable and very well equipped. There were more pots, pans and utensils in the kitchen than we could every use and we enjoyed cooking some lovely fish bought at the local market. We also appreciated the selection of books, playing cars, draughts and dominoes. The lounge is cosy, the bedrooms spacious but the highlight must be the terrace! The chairs are comfortable and we abandoned several planned outings in favour of relaxing in the sun on the terrace with a glass of wine and taking in the breathtaking views!

The beaches are spectecular and we had them all to ourselves! (El Palmar and Bolonia were our favourites). Vejer is a good central point from where to explore this part of Spain and we can recommend a trip to Seville, Cadiz and Tangiers. Vejer itself is a lovely little town, very Spanish and unspoilt and we had plenty of opportunity to practise our Spanish. There are some good restaurants (El Califa, El Convento, La Posada) very reasonably priced, all just a few minutes walk from the house. Also try La Taperia for tapas.

We were impressed with the very quick and efficient way the owner dealt with our enquiry. We were sent a map and clear instructions and had no trouble finding the house. We were met by the lovely Estrella, who lives next door and who made us feel very welcome. All in all a perfect holiday and we will certainly be back later this year.
Owner's Response: We are delighted our guests had such a good time!

The coast of light is truly beautiful

My girlfriend and I have visted the Costa de Luz a dozen times and have already planned our next trip! It is so refreshing to see a coastline in spain that has not been put to the sword by ruthless development. Vejer is a quintessential white village and if you enjoy good food, outdoor pursuits and miles of untouched sandy beaches theyre all within a short distance of Vejer.

The accomodation is charming and well kept. I admit that you have to watch your head every now and again (see previous writers comments) but what do you expect in a 400 year old traditionally built spanish townhouse!?
Very impressed and would recommend.

All style, no substance

Review Submitted: February 20, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2007
Vejer is a lively, (not in the Ibiza sense!) beautiful, friendly town with great restaurants and shops, and best of all the beach at El Palmer. The views from the roof terrace at the house are lovely if you can lift your eyes from the town dump discretely sited below... They do not however match the views to be found at many holiday homes in Gaucin, a quieter, but more spectacularly sited town, an hour or so to the east.

For anyone considering participating in a course at the local language school or looking for a base for sight seeing, then this would be a very good location.

The house is well maintained and equipped with good cooking and washing facilities. The furniture and decor are pretty - but as a couple of mixed stature (6'1" and 5' 4" respectively) we both found it impossible to relax, since there was not a comfortable chair or bed in the house and I'm afraid for us this was a huge downfall. Change, at the very least, the terrace furniture where most of us holiday makers like to spend a good part of our time and I would up our score considerably.
Owner's Response: We have replaced the furniture on the terrace with 4 very comfortable chairs and a new table. The 'dump' is being made into a car park (Dec.2007) but, in any case, cannot be seen from the house unless you hang over the side of the terrace!
The beds and furniture are virtually brandnew and of high quality but as some people prefer a soft mattress and some a hard mattress, it is very difficult to please everyone. We have several guests who have returned to stay in La Piconera 3 or 4 times over the last 2/3 years, which speaks for itself!

two weeks of magic

reginapete city suburb

My wife and I were very impressed when we entered this beautiful village. It is totally unspoilt I suppose the way Spain used to be before the invasion! Vejer has some very nice bars and restaurants where you can enjoy, a cold beer and a plate of locally grown olives while selecting a meal from your menu.
The property is amazing - it is positioned on the side of a steep hill overlooking miles of open land to the sea. The views from the roof terrace are unique.
We found the property to be very well maintained by a caring neighbour. The layout over three floors was full of character - although the stairs are low and I quite often banged my head - part of the charm that creates a memorable holiday!
I would recommend this property and the village to anyone who wants to enjoy a real holiday experience in such a beautiful area of Spain

November 2007-good with babies!

_Chris Mainz, Germany
Review Submitted: February 14, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2007
WE were 2 women (28+36) with our 2 babies (at that time: 3 months and 8 months) wanting to rush away from everyday housework. We got a good deal last-minute on car and flight as well and we enjoyed our trip very well. The apartment was warm enough for the 2 little ones - thanks the good electrical portable heater! Wonderful view from the terrace-I recommend:No stroller-the road is very, very steep-we are baby-carrying Moms, that had been an advantage! There is a wonderful, excellent(!) restaurant around the corner " The Garden of Kalif"-we ate there twice-in spite of the real romantic atmosphere they served us and our babies really well. Beautiful Plaza Espana is just around the corner---but a car is necessary for activities around Vejer. But actually you can reach every place in Vejer within 10-20min walking distance from the apartment. There is really not much I disliked-I would return to that place, BUT for me there has been no seating that suited my comfort-somebody already mentioned in the guest book! I have to admit that we were 2 tall ladies around 6 feet!
But that´s it-nice place in good location among the locals! There is a spanish friendly lady living next door-I forgot her name, but she is really, really nice! She would help in any case-I know! Just take shoes with good profile-in case it rains you might have trouble to walk up the steep road from the parking spot! Have a good vacation in Andalucia!

Great place to stay

We loved this property and the town and the whole area in fact. The house was charming and well supported. It was an adventure finding it and negotiating the steep and narrow roads but well worth it. The house had everything you could need, especially useful was the washing machine. The terrace was lovely and the views spectacular. I particularly liked being able to wander around the town and practise my Spanish, not much English spoken there. Excellent restaurants locally and a great area to explore. I would definitely recommend this location and this lovely, interesting little property.
