A Hidden Treasure

We stayed at this villa in the first week in October and it was everything we wanted and more. Be prepared for the views to blow you away. We have never 'done' a private apartment holiday before and I can confidently say we will never go back to hotels. The apartment is exactly as the pictures show. Clean, comfortable with everything you need. Having your own pool is one of the highlights, good size and maintained well. The first dip of the day can be pretty cold but great to clear any hangovers! As a couple in our thirties, we wanted to be able to go out in the evening for a few drinks and although Carratraca doesnt have a jumping nightlife there was a couple of lovely little bars with friendly staff which was enough for us. We cant really comment on the restaurant scene as we opted most nights for a bbq in the villa as Eryl and Roland kindly took us to the supermarket to stock up after our arrival. From what we heard though the restaurants sound good and offering a good choice. We decided to not hire a car as we were only there for 5 nights and it really wasnt a problem, i would however recommend it if you want to be out and about. Its very difficult to sum up this review apart from saying its been the best holiday we have ever had. Although its a cliche, you really will see the real spain and if you simply want to unwind in breathtaking beauty, Book up now! We have never been a couple who return to the same place every year but have made a joint decision that we will be returing next year. Finally, a quick mention about the owners Eryl and Roland. They are excellent hosts and their passion for the area really shows. We bumped into them by chance on our last afternoon and enjoyed a 'few' beers together. They are a great couple and we cant thank them enough. See you next year.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the trouble to write a review following your holiday with us.
We are pleased you enjoyed yourselves and fell in love with the area as we did when we first moved here.
We put a lot of effort into trying to make it a perfect holiday for guests and it is so rewarding when people appreciate this.
We certainly enjoyed meeting you and look forward to seeing you again next year.

Villa in fabulous location

We have just returned from a two week stay in the Villa which proved to be a very realxing and enjoyable holiday. The views from all around the villa are stunning but the location is not too isolated. The village is a 10 minute walk up hill ( best attempted during the cooler time of day) or a 2 minute car ride. A few small shops in Carratraca but a greater choice and improved prices in the supermarkets of Alora which is only 20 minutes over the mountain road.
Plenty of things to do in the area if you can drag yourself away from the pool at the villa. We visited the Lakes area, a must midweek but too busy at the weekend. We also visited Rhonda which was a straight journey from the villa on the new road. Also not too far to the beaches but we did not bother.
We preffered to stay by the pool for most of the time as weather was very hot. It was no hardship to prepare a nice meal in the evening, as the villa was fully equiped and very comfortable. Eryl and Roland called in most days to check the pool and were able to offer advise about the area .We visited the Parador restaraunt in the villiage twice, it was reasonably priced but large portions, starter and main course too much for us. Owner speaks some english and can help with the menu.
We would definitly recomend the villa for a peacefull relaxing holiday and would certanly consider returning in the future.
(We have only been home one week but wish we were still there)

Fantastic villa in a beautiful part of Spain

We spent our easter holiday at this villa. The weather was perfect: sunny and hot in the day, with cool nights.

The villa itself is fantastic. The living area is very spacious, equipped with everything to make the stay comfortable. We made good use of the pool and barbecue. The view from the villa is stunning.

The local village is beautiful, unspoilt by tourism, with friendly bars serving great food. There is a very good bus system for visiting cities.

This is a perfect place to spend time relaxing and enjoying the local area, or to use it as a base to explore Andalucia.
Owner's Response: We are pleased to have another contended customer, enjoyed your company also, and hope you will be back again in the near future.

The villa was everything you could wish for - had all the mod cons and was very comfortable. The pool was completely private and the views from the villa amazing.
The local village had small shops and several restaurants (El Parador being a favourite) - take a phrase book as all menus (and waiters!) in spanish.
Make the effort to go out and explore. Fantastic scenery all around, pretty local towns and if prepared for a day out Gibraltor easily reachable. Local lakes provide a pleasant day out - though to avoid the crowds don't go at the weekend.
If touristy places are a drawer Malaga is 45 minutes away and Mijas close. However this holiday would suit people who want to get away from the crowds and have a truely relaxing and spanish experience.
We had a wonderful holiday and would like to thank the Highams for helping making it so.

I wouldn't hesitate ( and infact have!) to recommend this area and villa to friends and family.

Coming from the beautiful Cheviots Hills we still find this a stuning location, our second trip! Only 10minute walk up to a lovely little village with most amenities available including a couple of nice restaurants.
The region is beautiful and the N357 north takes you through some stunning hills and lakes. (Rhonda & Campillos)
The villa is very comfortable and well equipped but the terrace and pool is hard to tear yourself away from.
The owners,Eryl and Roland have proved themselves as excellent hosts with a good knowledge of the area.
We could tell that our stay here was important to them and they were onhand to help with any enquiries and problems.
We would not hesitate to recommend this villa (and also Casa Eleanor-their larger villa, which we rented last year).

The villa was superb we enjoyed our stay tremendously it contained everything we needed and its location was perfect for us to explore the sounding area.I would recommended it to anyone and have already done so to colleague's at work. (Alan Ross- May 2006)

It was superbly appointed, very comfortable and the area really beautiful. Trips to Ronda, Antequera, El Torcal, the Lakes all provided breathtakingly beautiful drives on really uncluttered roads. A meal at El Parador in Carratraca last Friday evening was excellent with a very pleasant host. The Bar next to the spa was 'okay' but the choice of 'Flamenco Stars in Their Eyes' on TV was not quite to our taste! (Graham Timms- May 2006)
