Bellavista

We stayed in Bellavista for a week in July 08 and I would thoroughly recommend it as a place to relax, unwind and enjoy the spectacular location while the kids swim in the pool or play table tennis. Our kids are 10 and 13 and it was perfect for them - they loved it.
The accommodation was just as it was described on the website and we were very happy with all the facilities and furnishings - we couldn't have asked for more. The owner, whose English is fantastic, also lives in the grounds but you never see her unless you want to - you have total privacy but it is very nice to know she is there if you need her. She is extremely pleasant and helpful.
The house is fairly high up the mountain and I must admit our first journey up there was pretty scary as the roads are so narrow and the drivers are mad! But the higher you go up the mountain the fewer cars you meet and we never had a problem. Don't take a big car up there though - we hired a Ford Focus and I wouldn't have liked to drive anything much bigger up those roads! The more we drove up and down the mountain the more we got used to it.
The house is very "away from it all" but that is what we wanted and we knew that when we booked it. The views are absolutely stunning, the pool was perfect for our kids and they loved the table tennis! Massarosa is your nearest town and you can see it directly below you at the foot of the mountain but it is about a 4km drive down the twisty mountain road. It has a few shops, restaurants and a couple of nice coffee shops but theres not that much to it really. It does have an excellent supermarket and we were very happy to stock up there and cook/bbq at the house most evenings, sit out on the terrace with a bottle of wine, take in the views and listen to the music drifting up the mountain from the town below! We had already done lots of sightseeing in Pisa, Lucca and Florence before we went to Bellavista so we were happy just to chill out during our week there but we did go into Viareggio one day and it is a big, bustling, touristy seaside resort so if you want that kind of holiday it is there for you too.
In summary, I wouldn't particularly recommend Bellavista to you if you want a lively, touristy, partying time. If however you want a relaxing break where you can experience "real Italy" in absolutely beautiful surroundings then this is the place to go! We loved it and I would highly recommend it!
Owner's Response: I think that whenever you meet new people you have a good opportunity to improve yourself. So when my family and I have some new guests at the villa we consider it an occasion to become better and better in our hospitality. Thank you so much for you review.
