A cosy place for all seasons

Bill & Sophie Wiltshire
Review Submitted: August 24, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
Although tiny ('bijou' might be a kinder description), Groom's Cottage has everything two people might need for a week's retreat. If you're blessed with good weather, the various outside spaces are a delight - sitting with a glass in your hand on a summer's evening, looking out from your own private jetty over Lake Windermere is a rare treat. If it's wet & cold, the cosy bedroom studio is the perfect place to curl up with a good book.
The owners in the next door 'big house' were wonderfully discreet but made us aware that they were on-hand if we needed anything.
There's nothing one can add to what has already been written about the Lakes and Groom's Cottage is about as ideal a base as you'll find for your explorations. Probably not ideal for a pair of burly six footers, but just tiggerty-boo for a couple under 5'7"!

Amazing Grooms Cottage

Nick + Alison Stockport Cheshire
Review Submitted: November 13, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
If you are looking for a getaway cottage with stunning location and views look no further. Also if you have a dinghy that you want to sail and have your own mooring/jetty this is the one for you.Richard was there to greet us and was really helpful. The cottage itself was great and had a big comfortable bed to fall into at the end of the day. Locally the food was master chef standard the Drunken Duck and Queens Head being the pick of them all. We highly recommend Grooms Cottage and will be booking again for next year .

Secluded Woodland Hideaway - Grooms Cottage

Wendy & Carl Leeds
Review Submitted: October 14, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
What a find!!!!
This is the place to go for peace and tranquility in a beautiful setting to recharge your batteries - this is the place to go
In a beautiful secluded woodland location with Lake Windermere on your doorstep
The private jetty is amazing, we had breakfast there most mornings overlooking the lake which was so tranquil and relaxing
The cottage is small as stated but it is clean comfortable and cosy. Fun was had trying to light the real fire, another added bonus
The bed is massive and so comfortable.
It is obvious that a lot of thought has been put into this cottage from the fluffy robes in the bedroomand its quality fittings to the champagne, chilled glasses and breakfast items in the fridge, what a lovely surprise.
Richard was a lovely host, more like staying with a friend, nothing was too much trouble.
Ther are great walks and bike rides directly from the cottage.
We actually were lucky enough to see some of the wild deer in the woods!!!
We had a lovely week and can't wait to return.
We would recommend Booths supermarket, really good quality. Lots of good pubs serving food not too far away.
Thank you Richard hope to see you again soon

Secluded Paradise!

Rori Garden City, New York
Review Submitted: August 19, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
The description was extremely accurate: this place is secluded, private and wonderful! We were two old friends that had a reunion vacation here. We barbequed, painted watercolours lakeside, and were still close enough to plenty of local attractions without being in the middle of tourists, noise or anything! We felt like we were on our own private lakeside estate. The location also allowed easy day trips to visit the entire Lake District!
Our host provided us with enough essentials from the local market for breakfast, and he was even available by phone to help us find our way when we thought we were lost! The cottage and grounds were immaculate, comfortable and convenient. We hated leaving.
One word of advise: make reservations for the Drunken Duck Inn for dinner or they will not seat you, even if they have tables. And dinner here is a must!

Groom's Cottage

Visitors from Seattle Seattle, Washington, USA
Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
A very good spot from which to make Lake District excursions on foot or by car. The cottage is tiny, but that was clear from the ad. Likewise, the fact that it doesn't actually front on Lake Windermere, but the lake is only a two minute walk away. The bed was comfortable, the kitchen pleasant, the place very clean and the owner extremely friendly and helpful (and the weather glorious). The two-storey layout is a slight bit awkward, but for us it was part of the charm. We especially appreciated the flowers in the house and the invitation to use the garden.

A Must in the National Trust

Nico and Yvonne Holland
Review Submitted: June 24, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We stayed for a week at The Groom's Cottage under for us ideal circumstances: lovely situated in a quiet surrounding with a lot of privacy and not spoiled by the negative influence of modern tourism. Inside the cottage was proper and well equipped and outside a delightful landscape to explore. The cottage didn't have a separated living room, but the very comfortable sleeping room was well appointed. In our case we also had the luck that the weather was very nice and after a day of walking it was very relaxing watching TV. on our bed. Richard, the "landlord" of the Belle Grange was a excellent host and was very helpful to find for us a B&B after our stay at The Groom’s Cottage. Now we’re back in Holland we’re looking back on a very successful holiday with a lot of nice memories.

Groom's Cottage

Review Submitted: May 7, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
Great out of the way location, with good boat mooring facilities, fairly easy launch from beach nearby.
(This is what i was looking for in a holiday home)

The property was clean, and well-maintained, it is compact, but I was out most of the time anyway, (it would be even better if there was an garage or similar for bikes or other out-doors equipment).

I will stay again, it is a great place to be out of the way in the peace and quiet.

Grooms Cottage New Year 08/09

Review Submitted: January 9, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
A truly wonderful little hideaway, set in gorgeous peaceful surroundings.

Everything is catered for and it is most definitely suited to couples only, looking for that bit of quality time together.

A great base to explore from but more than comfortable enough if you want to just sit back and relax.

The cosiness of Grooms cottage coupled with the warmth and good feeling the open fire provides made our stay most pleasurable (and the welcome pack certainly helped!!).

A Peaceful Break

Hollie & Daren Corringham, Essex, UK
Review Submitted: November 4, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
This property was found as advertised. The situation was idyllic with views of the lake from the windows and the lake shore only a short walk from the cottage. The cottage is cosy and well equipped. The large bed was comfy and everywhere was clean. We can recommend the Drunken Duck (about 15mins from the cottage) for dinner and found the nearby villages of Ambleside and Hawkshead lovely. Please ignore the negative review posted previously, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Privet Country Estate

Mal & Marie Sydney Australia
Review Submitted: September 8, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
Staying at this wonderfully little spot feels like been on your own country estate
The property is set down a privet road which runs along the lake, behind the main house.
We stayed in June 2007 and we loved it.You can sit on the jetty and watch the RAF jets fly very low over the lake most days.
A great spot for a barbie and afternoon drinks weather permitting.
I loved the kitchen you have good views over the fields & across the lake.
The fridge was well stocked for breakfast, and other goodies also.
Most mornings we would see rabbits hopping across the garden and we lucky to see a young deer.
There are lots of good walks. There are some great pubs around for dinner.
In the cottage there is lots of info on things to do & places to visit. We would love to stay again when next we are in England.
