Studio apartment L'Ametlla de Mar

We've just came back from our stay in the studio apartment within L'Ametlla de Mar. The owners description of the apartment was accurate. In agreement with the previous reviewer, the photo's don't do the apartment justice and it is a nice, airy studio. The sofa shown on the photos has been replaced with a double bed. The view from the apartment looks out onto the fishing harbour, we actually moved the table over to one of the windows so when eating or reading we could appreciate it. The location is, as described by the owner, a quiet location. While the location is very pretty and typically spanish in many ways, we found it too quiet. Having not travelled to Spain for a number of years, we found the long siesta's (1.30-5.30) extremely long, with shops opening back up again until 8, 9 o'clock at the very latest. On a sunday many things, like the supermarket, didn't open back up again- so if you needed to pick something up, you needed to keep this in mind. During the siesta a few things stayed open, maybe a handful of places to eat, but most people seemed to opt for the beach. Food was typically spanish with tapas, paella and seafood being main choices. The set meals seemed to be best value which could be picked up from 11-20 euro's(3/4 courses plus wine). Sandwiches and tapas seemed to be lunchtime options. We were grateful for the cooking facilities within the studio and opted to pick up things from the fruit & veg shops & supermarkets and cook our own sometimes. An array of dishes, including a paella dish available to use. We struggled a bit with language and would strongly recommend looking over typical phrases, prefered food choices or any translations you may require as, with the exception of a few waiteresses or shopkeepers, very little english was spoken or understood. Tourists tended to be spanish travelling for weekend breaks or french tourists and therefore as we weren't spanish, most people suspected us French. The area as a whole seems to be developing and was incredably picturesque, with building changing around us. There's a little market held twice a week, but other markets in places such as Cambrils are bigger. The main beach (mentioned above) was nice and clean, with quite clear waters and even at this time when it is deemed to be really busy, wasn't overcrowded in anyway. The train station is a 5 min walk and links to Salou, Cambrils and Barcelona Sants to name a few, which as there was no organised trips of any nature, we found helpful.
