Holiday at Can Domingo

Review Submitted: June 7, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We have been to Soller many times over the last few years and have always enjoyed our holidays there in various villas but by far the best was Can Domingo.
The villa offers everything you could wish for. The views are stunning, it is very well equipped, the gardens are charming and the pool is perfectly sized, not to mention refreshing!!
Liz Bain, who introduces you to the property, is delightful, helpful and makes you feel very welcome.
We cannot recommend Can Domingo enough and we shall certainly be going back....several times!!

Lovely family holiday location

Can Domingo was a great place to spend our holiday. The property is beautiful - very private and quiet and has everything you need in it - down to plug adapters, bats and balls and mats and sun umbrellas for the beach. It is very clean and things like washing up liquid, washing powder for the machine and soap are provided - so you don't have to "waste" your holiday money on things like that. The villa is very clean and it and the gardens and pool are well maintained. Because everything is provided, you really can just take swimming costumes, a couple of shirts and shorts and some underwear! My only caveat is that without air con, the villa is very hot even with windows open and fans on - this made sleeping difficult.

The village of Soller is very pretty and not touristy - the walk back up the hill can be a little challenging after a few glasses of vinho though.

My partner and our 15 year old did lots of cycling - the countryside around is used for training by Tour de France riders (including Bradley W when we were there!). There were lots of challenging routes to do directly from the villa.

The trip to Port de Soller on the tram is an absolute must - hugely atmospheric journey - although not cheap.

Can Domingo ... What a View !!!

Eveski Warrington UK
Review Submitted: July 22, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We had read the other reviews but still ... What a view ... Wow!!! ... The Mallorcan mountains, so beautiful & breathtaking, just seemed unreal. Views all round from the top floor of the villa. Pool was wonderful, just what we needed in the July heat ( in the forties! )
The garden was much bigger than we expected, full of citrus fruit trees & plenty of shade provided too, really enjoyed eating outdoors & barbeques. Everything you could think of provided for. You only need toiletries & clothes. Sheets, pillowcases, bath towels, tea towels & swim towels all provided. There is also a big cool box with cool packs for days out. As Liz the house manager told us, it's just like going from one home to another.
The location of the house is very quiet & the pool is not overlooked. The old town of Soller (pronounced Sawyer) is only a 10 minute walk away. It is full of lovely little shops & around the square are small bars & restaurants where you can sit & eat or drink & just watch the local life go by. The town also has a supermarket, an indoor market (open daily except Sundays, as far as we're aware) & a street market on Saturdays. You don't even need to research all this as there are lots of leaflets & books at Can Domingo villa containing all the info you could ever need to explore Mallorca, by car or on foot. The Port of Soller is only a tram ride away from the Old town of Soller you just hop on the tram near the train station (Train takes you to Palma,) or near the chemist & pay the conductor onboard) it takes approx 10 minutes to reach Puerto Soller. Some fantastic restaurants on the front from which to sit & watch the sun go down. Best place to sit & watch the sun go down over the mountains? The terrace balconey at the front of Can Domingo Villa with a glass of wine. It is without doubt one of the most fantastic views in Mallorca & was all ours for the duration of our stay ... Fantastic!
Eve, Alistair, Rob & James
Ps Thanks to Liz for your lovely welcome ... Hope to come back for another visit ...

Can Domingo - can't do without it.

Review Submitted: July 6, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We have visited this property for 4 years now - the first time we have ever stayed loyal to one place for so long.
Both the interior and exterior are classy. The garden has a number of distinct areas, with plenty of sunny and shady bits. The pool is perfect, with views while you float.
Inside the kitchen is well designed and spacious, with room for sociable cooking. The lounge is terrific, very comfortable with great views. The photos do not lie. All the bedrooms are spacious and very comfortable, with two good bathrooms. You could stay here as two independent couples if you were daft enough to fall out with friends - we haven't yet because the place is so relaxing.
Liz who manages Can Domingo for the owners is very helpful and welcoming, and the place is thoroughly cleaned mid-stay if you are here for a fortnight or more.
Getting into town is a doddle - a 10 minute stroll down between a stream and the Palma-Soller railway line, spotting ducklings and waving to visitors. We tend to potter in as the mood takes us - it does not require a planned expedition as is needed from some more distant properties.
Access by car can be a little daunting at first - a tight, steep and badly paved turn from the first roundabout after the mountain tunnel, but we have kind of got used to the adrenalin surge going in and out. Once past that, there is a garage big enough for 4 small cars.
If you had other friends staying in Soller, this house would be a perfect place for entertaining.
Soller is a fantastic base. The town itself is quiet but full of facilities and charm. There is a good supermarket, and plenty of other supply places including the covered market and weekly outdoor market. Access to Port Soller is very easy by road, a bit costly by tram! The drive to Deia beach is easy and short, the walk there much better - but getting dropped off half way to walk the rest is perfect. The mountain drive to Polenca is fine, but may be an acquired taste for some and there are great places to visit en route. If you need to ease in gradually, try the half hour drive to the Mirador for great views of town, port and sea.
The walking is spectacular. Try taking bus or car to Cuber Reservoir then walking to Ofre and down the Barranc, a precipitous gorge with an excellent pilgrims path that ends up 30 minutes from town (4 hours approx). Mainly downhill and very manageable with my artificial hips and heart implant!

Lovely villa with beautiful views from every window upstairs. Well positioned, easy access to Soller and connecting tram and train. Pool very pleasant after and before a hot day in the sun. Need to be reasonably fit for all the stairs, however. Be aware of sharp narrow turn into the drive leading up to the villa and opt for a small car if possible or none at all if you are super fit as there is the train connection from Palma and good public transport - very scenic but hairy drives into the mountains but worth it. Liz excellent host and made us feel very welcome, thank you. Good place to go with friends as long as you could agree on where to sleep but would be very economical to share and has masses of room and access from both top and bottom parts of villa. Good place for walkers as many way-marked paths but do need to be able to navigate properly, suggest that you go in cooler times of the year as was very hot when we went in the first week of September but nonetheless beautiful, especially by the sea in Port de Soller in the evening sun - Palma very busy but lots to see and surprisingly beautiful. Allow time to visit Valldemera and the Monastry it is a gem of a place with lots of interesting side streets and very colourful. All in all a wonderful holiday retreat. A word of warning about families with very young children, however - part of the swimming pool is deep and, although it is fenced off it may be rather hazardous, as would all the steps to get to the upstairs main part of the villa - older children and teenagers would be fine. Lovely memories of a magical week.

Wonderful Villa, Wonderful town.

Review Submitted: August 17, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
On arrival at villa, as you turn off main road, and up onto a steep and narrow side road/track, first impression, oh dear what have we done.
First impressions, thank goodness they are nearly always incorrect.
On arrival at villa, and after the wonderful welcome from Liz, we just could not believe how breathtaking the views were, the accommodation just perfect.
We spent the rest of the day with permanent smiles, what a gem of a place we had uncovered.
The level of equipment in property, a real home from home, excellent.
The pool, just right for us, the shallow end great for the non swimmers, the deeper end great for the more adventurous.
Garden was lovely, fresh lemons and oranges, and free to help yourself.
There was a great choice of places to chill, great sun trap for the sunlovers, but more than enough shade for the more sensitive skin.
The views whilst swimming in the pool, breathtaking.
We chose not to hire a car on this holiday, the transfer from airport arranged by Liz, and were picked up by the very friendly Pierre, very stress free and a good start to our break.
The location is very central, with a good bus service right on your doorstep.
The beautiful town of Soller, just a few minutes walk away from property.
Myself and wife, are in mid 40s, and we took our 2 teenage daughters, age 16 and 17, and daughters boyfiend age 18.
We all found enough to keep us more than happy across the age spectrum.
But be warned, if you are the noisy disco and mad nigtlife type of person, this may not be for you.
If however you enjoy the pavement cafe, cosmopolitan type of break, this is perfect.
There is a wide range of food options in town, but again, be warned if you only go in for the fast food, burger and chips, this may not fit the bill.
Could go on and on, but still not give this holiday the justice it deserves, we are so depressed to be back home, and are in the process of planning our return visit, all in all 10 out of 10, and well done to Liz, a truly fabtastic host.

Great location only 35 min. by car from Palma, only 10 min.walk to restaurants and local supermarket. The villa had everything you could wish for and much more. Amazing views across the mountains and valley. Great central location for walks and sightseeing.Property and pool are well maintained. The house manager was very helpful and directed us to a very good local dentist. We enjoyed fishing and swimming at Port Soller This was our second visit and we will be returning again next year.

The directions given were very accurate although property nearer the main road than anticipated. This in no way caused any problems as the villa is high above road level. The property is superb and really helped make the holiday that bit extra special. The garden area with Lemon trees , pool and outdoor dining was magnificent and we all spent many hours out there. Our children (12 & 10) loved the pool and there was not a day it was not used. Also a very good barbecue area with everything you would need to cook the perfect meal. 5/10 minutes walk from centre of soller with plenty of restaurants in the square and some lovely fresh bread from the bakery every morning. We would come again to Can Domingo without any hesitation and recommend it to anyone . If you have very young children there are quite a few stairs to consider but the pool is fenced off and the side stairs are also fenced off as well
