A superb property, set in beautiful landscape, surrounded by vineyards, a very well equiped house, well furnished and in a great situation, only 20 minutes from the airport. Amost enjoyable experience, we have already booked again.

Fongrive Haut

Review Submitted: August 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We spent a quiet couple of weeks at Fongrive. The location is lovely with beautiful scenery and only the occasional passing car. The house was exceptionally well equiped with great attention to detail. There were plenty of games and activities to occupy our children aged 14 and 12. The table football was a great hit! The weather was extremely kind to us resulting in the swimming pool being used everyday. We visited a few of the recommended towns and markets. and would love to return to Fongrive to explore further.

Fongrive Haut - Peace and relaxation

Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We spent one glorious week at Fongrive Haut (8th - 15th Aug 2009) and wished we had stayed longer.
The accomodation was excellent - the pictures are great but do not fully do the house justice. There is so much room here internally and externally that even with 6 of us there you sometimes had no idea where the others were!!!!!
Everything and more is catered for and to a high standard. The children especially enjoyed the table tennis, badmington, board games etc etc.
The pool is a great size and great fun too.
The property was so clean and tidy and a lovely welcome pack was provided for when we arrived.
I do not think you could ask for anything else at this property.
we will definately return to this most beautiful part of the world.

JULY HOLIDAY

JOHNNY & ANNETTE MAYO, IRELAND
Review Submitted: July 30, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We stayed in this lovely well equipped house in it's beautiful setting in early July with our three small children. We had a great holiday thanks in the main to all the facilities and the great information pack that was provided enabling us to know what were the good markets, restaurants, places of interest etc.
We have holidayed in France in numerous houses over the last five or six years and we have to say that this property has been the closest we have come to perfection.
The owners were so helpful that even when we were looking for high chairs or baby cots it was not a problem.
Finally it has to be noted that unlike most holiday homes the beds were so comfortable that even with three children shouting at you , it was very difficult to get up each morning. Anybody who stays in this house will have no complaints.

The rest we all needed

We drove down to Fongrive Haut from St Malo, where we had sailed on the fast cat from Poole. The drive down took 7 hours but was worth it. Because we had already been sent the key we were able to arrive when we liked and not have the feeling that someone was waiting for our arrival. The house when we arrived was clean and tidy and there was a welcome basket with some basic essentials waiting for us. The Children soon discovered the table tennis table in the basement and the tennis and Badminton rackets in the games/UK channel TV room.
The Kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of cups, mugs, plates and glasses as well as cooking utensils.
The house is situated just off a road which has the occasional car and tractor passing and the neighbors are very pleasant and the views all around are stunning. From the rear of the property you look down over a lovely lake and on up towards the church, there are grape vines all around and from the front of the house you can sit out on the front patio and watch the sun set.
You definitely need a car if you want to stay at Fongrive as the location is quite rural but it is a great base for quite a few good days out.
Bergerac airport is about 20 minutes away and although we drove down, the grandparents flew over from Southampton which has a flight time of one and a half hours.
Putting all this together and despite a few days of bad weather, we had a fun and relaxing holidays, full of days by the pool and trips out to Bordeaux, Bergerac and St Emillion.
the house had plenty of space to cope with our party of two adults, two grandparents and two young children and we hope to return again in the years to come.

Fongrive Haut

A lovely spacious villa in a magnificent setting. Furnished and equipped to a high standard, with access to some wonderful countryside and medieval towns in the region. A great place to unwind and chill-out, peaceful and calm. We will book this one again and again. We stayed in October when the temperature was 24 degrees most days, but cooler at night when we had log fires and long dinners. In the summer the pool would be lovely and great for families.

A week at Fongrive Haut in mid-September

Had an absolutely wonderful holiday at Fongrive Haut. Everyone in my party of 8 was totally taken by the opportunity to relax there and enjoy all the facilities you made available to us. What a fantastic location in its own right and also for getting to other places. With canoeing, cycling and a visit to two markets we needed the rest by the pool most evenings. We cooked well and used every patio available to us as the sun moved round to the west.

Weather wonderful all the way through and we used the pool everyday. Sunday lunch at a lovely local family resturant in Monestier only 4 km away turned out to be a five hour affair but close enough to walk back to the house and collect cars later in the evening. All very relaxing.

The perfect family holiday home

Sitting out on the terrace late evening, watching the sun set and seeing the lights of far-off villages come twinkling on in the dusk, nothing to disturb the peace but the chirrup of the cicadas, you could be forgiven for thinking Fongrieve Haut was miles from civilisation. Overlooking its own little valley with a lake at the bottom, the nearest village on the crest of the hill opposite, deep in winegrowing territory, it's nowhere near as remote as it seems, yet the surroundings are incredibly peaceful - we could count the cars that passed each day on our fingers. And for wine lovers there are more vineyards than you can easily sample within a couple of miles radius - and several within walking distance including the neighbouring Fongrieve Haut winery itself.

The house itself is generous and gentile, extremely comfortable, with everything provided from golfing umbrellas and hot water bottles in case it gets rainy, to bikes, ping pong and board games for the children. Often it's hard to know how well equipped a house will be, but this one was everything you could ask for, with a well equipped kitchen, cookery basics like seasonings, oil and vinegar, a welcome basket for breakfast, lists of the local market days, restaurant recommendations, plentiful bedding, spare toiletries, first aid equipment... I really cannot fault it. Children will love staying in their own private tower, and the extra TV room is a real boon if part of your party wants to make noise and the other wants to relax in the more formal sitting room.

This wouldn't suit those looking for complete rural isolation, but as a family holiday home it's warm and welcoming, brilliantly located for museums, chateaux and more active attractions like go-karting, horse riding and kayaking, and offers really excellent value for money. The owners went out of their way to be helpful, and there is a local caretaker in case you need anything while out there which was really useful.
