Chez Collioure - worth the trip

The Diary Lindfield, West Sussex, England
Review Submitted: September 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
A great place to site ourselves in the lovely Catalan town of Collioure. Having stayed in variable accomodation in France over the last few years, we found Chez Collioure ideal for our family of two adults and two young children. Extremely spacious and in a quiet location (important with young children) about 10 minutes walk or a 4 minutes cycle ride from the main attractions and centre of town. The house caters for the holiday reader, the lover of foreign language films and the jazz ebnthusiast with an extensive range of books, videos and CD's. Thoughtfully, there are plenty of guidebooks and maps of Catalonia and the Lanquedoc region. There is plenty to see and do with good links down to Barcelona and into the Pyrenees and plenty of vartiety in the scenery. If we were to be ultra-picky, a number of lightbulbs were missing or not working when we arrived - but this would not detract from us recommending this property to anyone wanting a base to explore this pretty seaside town and the fascinating area.

August in Collioure

The T Families Nottingham
Review Submitted: August 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Our party of two families has just spent two glorious weeks in this comfortable house in the beautiful resort of Collioure. We feel that the photographs do not do justice to this spacious, homely and well equipped holiday home which we would highly recommend. The owners have provided lots of information about the area and the house is full of useful guide books about the area. Collioure is an ideal location for exploring the whole Catalan region and is abeautiful holiday place in itself. .We would recommend Restaurant St Elne which is good value for Collioure, serves good value wine, good sized portions, employs very accomodating staff and is in a beautiful sea front location. Our only criticism of Collioure is that it did not have a fish mongers which we would have liked. And our only critism of the house is that we did feel that the walk to the beach was more in the region of 15-20 minutes with children, in the heat and coming up the hill after a hard day laying on the beach!

Perfect holiday

19th July - 1st August
We have just spent 2 wonderful weeks in this charming house. The house is spacious & very comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped & the secluded garden is great for dining. The views are amazing & the location is perfect for those seeking a relaxing break. A 10 minute walk to the beach & centre of Collioure.
Our 3 teenagers loved every minute of their stay & we are already looking forward to our return next year.
Tips for teenagers: Indigo night club - "unbelievably good" !!
Internet access in centre of Collioure. Aqualand. Decathalon sport store - outskirts of Perpignan. Tourist office very helpful.

Une maison très fraîche effectivement!

Review Submitted: July 24, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Great property, great location. Whilst in a cul-de-sac with several other properties in the vicinity, the actual property itself is extremely private providing excellent alfresco dining in the backgarden. Beautiful vista of the surrounding area from the front balcony. No need for car to enjoy Collioure itself. Short walk to the beach/town. Feels longer though in the heat! Great for couples/families etc. House itself is different to the norm, which is a plus and one warms to it very quickly as it has a great homely feel, which sometimes lacks in other properties. Highly recommended.

We have just returned from beautiful Collioure. We had a wonderful time staying at Chez Collioure which more than lived up to its description (not often in the case of rental properties in France!) Unfortunately, the weather was not too good. The house, however, offered a cosy warmth to relax and enjoy some of the many books in the library and just relax. We especially enjoyed sampling the local wines and the world-famous anchovies! We highly recommend this accommodation. It is ideal for a large family such as ourselves, 7 people - or even for two couples and a couple kids! We hope to return again next year!

Christmas in Collioure !

Review Submitted: January 12, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We are a family of 7 and spent Christmas at Chez Collioure. We found the house very comfortable and warm and its proximity to the village was great; we could walk everywhere! The furniture and decor is very nice and we all were able to sit around the large dining table and have our Christmas meal. We would recommend this large house for families.

lovely house in quiet location in collioure

Review Submitted: July 30, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
The property was excellent, even better than we expected from the information on the web page. The house is extremely well equiped with lots of good books, art work etc to enjoy. Terrace and garden a sun trap and lovely views from the front windows over the valley.

10 minute walk to the centre of Collioure along a path alongside a creak.First bit down a hill but then flat. Collioure is a lovely small town with lots of good restaurants and cafes and grocery shops sufficient for everyday needs. Will be back we hope!

Loved this 'upside-down' house

Review Submitted: April 9, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
We all loved this ‘upside-down’ house, as it was described in the guest book (two bedrooms at the entrance level, and the living and dining areas upstairs). It was in great condition, clean and comfortable, and was obviously well kept and well managed. We were hoping to rent a house with a pool, but as they were twice or more expensive than this house, and with the beautiful waters of the Med only a few minutes’ walk, we were very happy here. The house was large enough for our large family to spread out in, yet also perfect for gatherings. The garden terrace was a real suntrap and the furniture perfect for long lazy lunches and lounging afterwards. A lot of work has obviously gone into the upkeep of the terraced gardens and the house itself. The house is ideally placed to be able to walk into the village within a few minutes (no hassle with parking) and yet it is in a very quiet residential neighbourhood. We would return and recommend the house without hesitation!

May 2007

We had a great two weeks here in this roomy house. Two bedrooms, a bath and a WC are on the entry level where a circular flight of stairs leads to the main floor where we found one of the best equipped kitchens I’ve experienced in a rental. The house was very clean and fresh linens were left for our second week in a bin.

We had some warm days, but could always find a breeze or a cool spot. Even with three couples sharing, there was enough room to sit alone or be together. The views were lovely and peaceful. The LR windows open to the patio, a great place to eat al fresco, just below a terraced hill. On the opposite wall, the DR windows open to a balcony looking out onto the hillside houses and olive groves. Every wall had colorful pictures - jazz musicians in the LR, nudes in the WC, travel posters in the downstairs bedroom - and there was a plentiful supply of both local travel books and fiction.

We took advantage of the Sunday and Wednesday markets near the harbor, which must be one of the prettiest on the Mediterranean. There we found fruits, vegetables, fresh breads, cheeses, olives, rotisserie chicken, rabbit, and estisalada, a local veg dish somewhat like ratatouille, but with each veg distinct. We drove to the Cathar castles and went to Perpignan both by car and train and enjoyed visiting with friendly neighbors on the cul de sac.

We'd visited Collioure some years before and enjoyed it even more this visit. It was a most pleasant experience and we strongly recommend this house to others.

A Delightful Experience

Vin&Rois Dublin
Review Submitted: April 1, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2007
We spent two holidays in the house, which is set on a hill about a ten-minute walk from the colourful French village of Collioure. The house is large and welcoming, and the weather was so fine that we were able to dine al fresco in the beautiful garden behind the house.
The second time we were there we were a party of seven, but the house accommodated us comfortably. We explored the village, with its many shops and art galleries, and we found a number of very good restaurants within easy driving distance. All in all then a delightful experience.
