Andalucia Retreat

We spent a 2 week holiday here as two families consisiting of 3 adults and 4 children ranging from 11 to 16 years. We all loved the house, the facilities and the views -fantastic! There was enough space for each of us to find some "us time" and not be in each others way and the WiFi was a god send for the teenagers on MSN to the friends back home!
The house is situated in a very rural position, in the hills up some very windy single track paths with steep drops at the side - hence the beautiful views! We unfortunately had a 9 seater vehicle which was not nice to drive along such a narrow track (especially when you meet someone coming the other way!) it so I would certainly recommend thinking carefully about the type of car you hire when you go - a 4x4 would be ideal but not, I would say, essential.
We did find that it took us 10 mins in the car to get to the main road (due to the windy track) and then another 10 mins to the village of Rio Gordo and the coast at Torre de Mar took us in total 50 minutes (from the villa). The shopping centre with bowling and waterpark across the road took 40/45 mins (from the villa), these were brilliant. We also visited Nerja, along the coast which was slightly longer but beautiful and well worth an evening or day trip.
Rio Gordo has all your basic food requirements and little supermarket, whilst the larger super/hypermarkets are by the waterpark.
Lisa and Julian, the owners were always close at hand to answer any queries or sort out any problems or even recommend restaurants/places to visit. During our holiday, they were staying occassionally in a small seperate building at the back of the villa so this was handy for any problems or for leaving a note with a query. We did not see them very often so it was not intrusive but it was nice to know they were there if needed.
The house and the position is as beautiful as the photos and most definately peaceful. Please note though, that we feel it is certainly not suitable for families with young children due to the steep drops at the edges of the property or for people with walking difficulties because of the steepness and amount of steps around the property.
Would certainly recommend this holiday for families with older children or just adults though. Fabulous and peaceful!
