An excellent experience

My wife and I stayed in Volets Bleus from March to July 2006. We got to experience the change of seasons from late winter through spring and summer. The description in this ad is very accurate. The owners, who live on the site, are wonderful hosts in addition to providing an excellent living experience. Monflanquin is a marvelous bastide village and an easy walk from the house. The Thursday market provides an opportunity to sample all types of local produce, excellent cheeses, meats and a variety of other products. Volets Bleus was comfortable and very well equipped for cooking full meals if you desire. There are a number of great small villages, castles and other sights to visit nearby- many within 20 km of the house. The garden surrounding the patio is incredible and the owner devotes considerable time to keeping it that way. The fresh vegetables were very good and we took advantage of them. There are several excellent restaurants in the village. It is very pleasant and convenient to prepare some meals in the kitchen which makes dining out even more special. If you have a car, there are tremendous opportunities within two hours drive which can take you to the Atlantic (St. Emillion, Arcachon) or the Pyrenees and many other great sites. The roads are fine for cycling as the drivers are very polite although there are some challenging hills depending on your direction. We enjoyed walking to the village for dinner. The French people in Monflanquin were very friendly and helpful. We didn't speak French but they made every effort to assist us. The owners were quite helpful when translations were needed. We are returning this year(June 2008) for another vacation, unfortunately a shorter one. We can recommend Volets Bleus or The Cottage to anyone.
Owner's Response: Bob and Amy were a delight, and during their 5 month stay we struck up a real friendship. She cried when they left. We keep in close touch, and exchange regular e-mails about common interests.
As many of our visitors do , they are returning this Summer, and we are all looking forward to that happy event.
They mis-understood the review guidelines and, thinking they should not use our names, refer to us as `the owners`. We are most certainly on first names terms!
However, this does not present a problem, so we are not looking to have things changed.
As can be seen, they took full advantage of many of the interesting posibilities available in this lovely region, even visiting the atlantic coast. Keen cyclists, they bought two cycles and made good use of them. At the end of their visit, they gave them to us! We are sure they will again make good use of them in June.
Our thanks to them for this review.
