A week well spent.

Spending a quiet week on a Greek Island was a dream finale to a whirlwind 5 week, non-stop traverse of the European continent. And what better location than that of Christine and John's Serene Villas on Kephalonia!! The 'customer service' provided by the ever-resourceful landlords was outstanding - from personal pick-up at the ferry terminal (a good 45 min ride from the villa!) in their spacious van, complete with plastic deck-chair as optional extra-seating, to providing us with every little detail we could need to get around the area easily without a car (our own choice!), including locations of the best gyros shops in the known world (MOST important). Although around 20-30min walks to the beach or nearest 'super-market', along roads, this was never an issue for us. It is highly recommended to hire a car, however, if desiring to wander farther afield or for prolonged stays. The unit itself was immaculate, nothing was left wanting. Ditto for the swimming pool (although the usual requirement to share your swimming experience with countless crickets, moths, butterflies and the odd lizard...). With more pets than you can safely shake a stick at (2 dogs, 4 cats, anything else hidden away?), this is also an animal lovers paradise - feel free even to join Chris on her daily morning dog walk! (and learn about the amazing wart healing properties of honey on the way! ;-)). All up, I could not recommend this place more to anyone looking for somewhere to relax, unwind and simply escape from the wider (uglier) world. Efkaristo, John and Chris.
Owner's Response: We are pleased you were impressed Gareth and thank you for your humorous report!
Just to clarify, we are in a rural spot and get interesting wildlife, apart from harmless Mediterranean insects and amazing butterflies, there are pine martins and honey buzzards. There are also the traditional donkeys near the village. We have books to lend and can give more information about local walks, fauna and flora and the properties of the local honey and our own olive oil! I am also a complimentary therapist.
We do live on site and John is fanatical about cleaning his pool every day. One psychologist guest diagnosed him as having a compulsive obsessive disorder about it!
Our 2 friendly dogs are kept in a spacious penned area in the olive grove unless on a lead for a walk and are never allowed to run loose in the garden. Last year a tortoise came to stay with us for a while. (They live wild here.) As for the cats we rescued- we request that visitors do not let them in the apartments.
They are vaccinated and kept healthy and spend most of their happy lives sunbathing and soaking up the peace in the grounds of Serene Villa!
Please email any questions you may have and we shall be pleased to answer them. Chris

Simply wonderful, couldn't fault it in any way

Review Submitted: September 25, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
really can't say enough to praise the place and Chris and John.
We stayed there for 1 week in Sept 09 having spent a week in the north of the island which was also excellent.
The villa itself is spacious, well equiped and very clean.
Plus John and Chris themselves were very helpful and informative to any level you might require.
Location wise although quite rural was still close to all amentities you might need and there was a lovely beach with taverna within walking distance as well.
We toured most of the island and found the location to be excellent.
As some one else wrote in the visitors book-it would be great if you could take the villa with you wherever you went.
Would we go back- absolutely.

The serene villa is an absolute peaceful place, surrounded by olive groves. The apartments are very clean, tastefully furnished and calm. The owners where very friendly, picked us up at the airport, where helpful at all questions we had and gave us a generous welcome package. In the near of the villa there is a fantastic beach for plane-spotters - you can watch the planes landing directly over your heads... And our children liked to go for a walk with the owners and her 2 dogs. A perfect place for relaxing and getting to know Greece from its best side !!

PERFECT HOLIDAY

Review Submitted: September 3, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This was our first time at Serene Villa and we hope it won't be our last! From the moment we set foot on the island til the moment we left, we couldn't fault anything. Our hosts were truly generous with their information, their friendliness and their willingness to help us. John picked us from the airport and took us back. He even dropped us at a local taverna on our first night and picked us up again!

The villa is beautiful - well furnished and an excellent welcome pack provided. You can tell the thought that has gone into making this a welcoming home from home. Fully air conditioned (blessing on some nights)

The island is lovely - the beaches are all blue flag and it shows. We split our time between the beaches and the pool although some days we couldn't tear ourselves away from the serenity of the villa

You must hire a car and John and Christine even recommended a local company that we used.

We enjoyed a very relaxing barbecue with our hosts - thank you for making us feel so welcome - John and Christine are there if you need them but they never intrude on you

We can honestly say this was the most relaxing holiday we have had - our 3 children had a ball and we came back to England feeling like new again!

When we read the reviews for the villa before making our booking, we wondered could it really be so good - believe us, it is!

Thank you John and Christine - love and best wishes from Allison, Ian, Erin, Anna and Beth xxx

Just another day in Paradise.......

This was our second time to the island... last year we were in a hotel nearby so we knew we liked the area.

We booked Serene Villa online as it looked like a perfectly quiet location... away from it all....

We were picked up from the airport by John who is a great guy and made us fell welcome from the off. The drive up to the villa was lovely. Peaceful winding roads through local farming land and beautiful villages.

The villa is perfect.... an amazing setting looking over the coast. You can hear the island breathing from here (stupid as it may seem). The apartment was perfect (no complaints), the hosts were amazing, with lots of local information and advice.

You NEED a car. Get a car. The island is fantastic with amazing beaches where you CAN BE ALONE... even in July, we found quiet beaches. But it was always nice to get back to the villa and sit by the pool with a book... the sound of the grass hoppers humming away....

I have already booked for next year. Whether it is with a family or a romantic holiday for two. For me, Kefalonia is a magical place where the pace of the island can recharge your batteries and your mind.

Christine and John are the best hosts we have every had. They made us feel welcome and comfortable and I can't wait until next year to return.Serene Villa for us, was a dream that we can't wait to repeat.

See you soon.

Simply Fantastic

We have just returned from a week in Dove Villa and cannot praise it too highly. The accommodation was modern, clean and good value for money. The location is great with stunning views along the valley to the sea. Set in lovely gardens with beautiful swimming pool, spacious sunbathing area, pergola with outdoor eating area and adjacent BBQ, it couldn't be better. John and Christine are excellent hosts, friendly and helpful. Their local knowledge is invaluable. There are two lovely sandy beaches within walking distance. A car is definitely needed to explore this beautiful island. Driving through the mountains to visit the villages of Sami and Assos is quite an experience. The views are fantastic. The harbourside restaurants are definitely worth trying for the great food and relaxing atmosphere. If you don't like package deal locations avoid Skala and Lassi, they are definitely worth a miss. Although the drive to Poros was lovely, the place itself was disappointing. There are many other places to visit which we are saving for another holiday.

After holidaying in Kefalonia for 15, years and tried various types of accomodation, we have now found our paridise venue.
We found the villa on the web and it is everything it says and more, this year was our second year there and we have already booked for next May.
John and Christine are perfect hosts, they have put a lot of thought into making their home welcoming, for visitors and you feel that you are a part all all it has to offer.
From now on we will always be looking forward to our two weeks in our favourite island, in our dream location, with all its peace and tranquility.
We would recommend a stay with John and Christine for anyone at any time.

Serene time on an authentic Greek island

Review Submitted: May 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
I had a wonderful time at Serene Villa. I came for a week but wanted to stay longer. The villa is modern and well appointed, with plenty of room for four people to stay. With only one other apartment next door, it is very peaceful and pleasant to just stay on the property, relax by the pool, and enjoy the magnificent views of the Mediterranean. I use a motorised wheelchair and found the property completely accessible, including the pool which has a hoist. Nothing was a problem to the owners who did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The beach and villages are close enough on foot, but not so easy to get to by wheelchair. The owners very kindly took me around the island in their van with a wheelchair hoist, although I would recommend taking your own vehicle across on the ferry for true independence around the island. Once you're there, the different villages and sites to explore on the island are quite accessible and locals are very friendly and helpful. This was my first Greek island experience and I was delighted.
