Excellent

Review Submitted: August 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
I read the other other reviews to understand the sort of useful comments & really they already say it all.

This villa is better than the photo's - v.clean, spacious & equipted with all you might need. The view from the terrace having dinner each evening was fantastic. It is the right balance of away from it all & but near enough to get where you want.

We were orginally nervous there would be nothing to do nearby & going with young children this could prove difficult. However, we were 15mins from a great river beach at Gioan the children just kept asking to go back to and the excellent park including free water park just the bridge in Portugal (the saturday market is also a must) and train from here to Porto is also be recommended if you want a rest from driving. The fort at Valenca is amazing and we also had great days at Biarona (spelling??) & Ponteverdre. The road system was far better (faster) than anticipated.

The area was so beautiful & unspoilt. Our Spanish & Portuguese phrase books were well used!

Jolanda was extremely efficient , helpful and organised, making us feel most welcome.

We would definately recommend Jolanda & this villa!
(Sorry if some of the locations are mis-spelt!!)

Great house

Dermot F Kilkenny, Ireland
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Our stay at Villachan was very enjoyable. The house was absolutely fabulous - the best we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in holiday houses for 16 years now! The photos do not really do it justice as all rooms were very spacious, well furnished but not at all cluttered. The house and all of its utensils had been meticulously cleaned when we arrived. There was a lovely welcome basket of fruit and basic food provided to get us over the first day.

Jolanda provided perfect driving directions for our visit and met us in the local village Tomino. She showed us everything in the house, provided excellent information and reading material and was only a phone call away if we had any queries.

The area was lovely with beautiful views, secluded roads for walking, a nearby village with a good and inexpensive supermarket and easy car access to beaches, nearby towns and many areas of interest. Portugal was just minutes away.

We travelled with three kids aged 7 to 16 who loved it, but our kids are great to amuse themselves and make the most of holidays without entertainment such as water parks etc. Don't expect too many English speakers in the area, but we managed fine.

Spacious, well equiped, well located holiday home

The accommodation at Vilachan leaves nothing wanting as it has all possible holiday home requirements to make ones stay easy.
It is only 10 minutes from the main motorway which provided easy travel throughout Spain or into Portugal. The motorway is at the bridge into Portugal so travel through northern Portugal is an easy trip.
We stayed for only 4 nights over Easter 2009 due to overall time constraints but would liked to have stayed longer.
There are a number of supermarkets to buy provisions within an easy driving distance.

The accommodation was finished to a high standard and is maintained as such. It proved easy to utilise all of the equipment
Jolanda was very helpful and on request gave us information on numerous places to visit covering local Celtic ruins, Valenca castle and day trips to Santiago and Porto (Portugal)(& the Port caves) (and other places to see on route) which proved very interesting. There is so much to see that we only skimmed the surface.

She sent us to various restaurants where we could sample the local food and Tapa’s available.

Most people travel to Spain & head South, whereas they miss out on the incredible sites of Galacia.
We were well looked after at Vilachan and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to see Galacia.

Fantastico!!!

Just got back from Vilachan and what a great house; everything you could want including DVD player and a selection of discs. A cold bottle of wine in the fridge on our arrival and everything from the large kitchen to the sunny terrace which we made extensive use of - temperatures in March of 25 degrees - was of excellent quality not typical 'holiday home' standard. Jolanda said she fitted the house out as if they were going to live in it and it showed. Everything was spotlessly clean and well presented and all furnishings excellent.

Beaches, restaurants and yards all close by and neighbours friendly and open to 'talk' in 'Spanglish' and gestures.

The house itself was spacious; a closed garden ensured our privacy; bedrooms and bathrooms all beautifully appointed and a fully fitted out kitchen which makes ours at home seem small.

I recommend this highly to everyone - there are things to do for all from neolithic ruins to shopping; beach to bar hopping; churches to country walks. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and hope to be back again soon.

thanks so much.

Report on family holiday (August 2008)

Review Submitted: March 22, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
On arrival to the property our first impression was that the photographs on the internet had not done it justice because it seemed larger and more attractive than we had
remembered. Interior wise the property was spacious and furniture and decoration were of a high standard. The whole property was well equipped, the kitchen especially so and we were delighted that we had everything that we needed to prepare our meals. Outdoor dining was
very really enjoyable with a good level of privacy, wonderful views and a pleasant temperature. We had selected this property on the basis of its location both in terms of climate and sight-seeing, and are happy to report that the holiday delivered on both of these. Some of the beaches we visited in the area were exceptionally attractive and local towns and cities also had lots to offer. Meals out in restaurants were consistently good - especially the seafood. Overall we found much to recommend this accommodation and would not hesitate to return in the future.

A home from home

Review Submitted: March 22, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
We stayed at Villa Vilachan in late September & enjoyed it so much that we are about to return again. We have rented many holiday villas across Europe and have found Villa Vilachan to be the best.

The property is a newly built bungalow but in the Galician rustic style with beautiful stone. The property is spacious and immaculately presented. The owners have thought of everything you might need for your stay. The attention to detail in this property is the best we have seen. The beds and lounge chairs very comfortable - something often missed in holiday villas. The kitchen is very well equipped, again often missed in holiday villas. Having two shower rooms means that you aren't kept waiting to get into the bathroom!

The rural location of the villa is superb with beautiful views and the peaceful area allows you to properly relax either in the front or rear garden. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the front terrace and watching the sun go down over the countryside. The microclimate of the area means that it reminds us of the beauty of Scotland but with much warmer, sunnier climes. We didn't want to leave last time we stayed and cannot wait to return. It is just the kind of villa we would buy for ourselves because it feels very much like a home from home.

"We have stayed at Villa Vilachan twice & enjoyed it so much that we are about to return again.

Another reviewer has commented about there being no dishwasher. Yes, that would be an added bonus - the kitchen is certainly large enough to accommodate it. But on holiday we find we have the time for cooking & washing dishes.

Having two shower rooms means that you aren't kept waiting to get into the bathroom!

The rural location of the villa is superb with beautiful views and the peaceful area allows you to properly relax either in the front or rear garden.

We have enjoyed eating breakfast on the front terrace and watching the sun go down over the countryside. The microclimate of the area means that it reminds us of the beauty of Scotland but with much warmer, sunnier climes.

We are Spanish speakers - you need to be staying in rural areas. This part of Galicia is not a tourist trap & we enjoy not seeing Brits during our stay. A car is also essential.

The villa is located about 90 mins drive from Santiago airport - the drive is very scenic. The drive from Porto airport is closer. It is good to have the choice of two airports both with budget flights.

The villa is on the wine trail with vineyards at the top of the hill. The local grape is white. The fish is superb from both the sea and the River Mino. Local seasonal fruit and veg are superb. We went picking oranges, lemons and limes in June.

We haven't wanted to leave each time we have stayed and cannot wait to return. It is just the kind of villa we would buy for ourselves because it feels very much like a home from home.

Beautiful house set in own garden with fantastic views over vineyards. We enjoyed the large kitchen, lovely lounge with sliding doors out to a terrace where we partook in many a sundowner.
Well appointed bedrooms, the master with en suite facilities.
All in all one of the best bases we have stayed in to discover the unspoiled coast and countryside of Galicia.
We will definitely be back, from the friendly welcome to the beautiful weather all could not have been better. We take great memories from the house, its location and the gastronomic delights and will recommend this villa to all our friends

Great villa. Lots of room for a family of 6. Loved being so close to beach (20mins in car) nearest town (5mins), other interesting towns including Tui, Vigo, plus portugal 40mins. Did lots of trips without spending hours in the car. Property clean and modern and well equiped - though no dishwasher.Fantastic area to explore. Very few tourists and mostly spanish. great beaches, walking, interesting day trips. Highly recommended base to explore Galicia.

Owner's Response: Thanks Louise, we hope to see you back again. Regarding the Dishwasher we are renting the house all year round therefore decided washer / dryer for guests clothes to take priority - we will review the dishwasher situation over time and if required will install.
