Wonderful French Experience

Young Australian Family Sydney, Australia
Review Submitted: August 26, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our family loved our stay in this cosy but spacious farmhouse. The location is nice and rural, but still within five minutes drive of a good supermarket, great bakeries and butcher. For a short term rental property, it is exceptionally well equipped for enjoying cooking and partaking of the local offerings. Good coverage of English language cable channels, as well as videos and DVDs for use. Easy access to the beautiful areas of Dijon and Beaune. The owner provided us with a warm welcome, along with a great basket of local produce. We would recommend this to any families or couples wanting to enjoy a relaxing holiday in this beautiful are.

Beautiful week in Burgundy

This is a great cottage in a quiet and pretty village that is an easy walk, or an even easier cycle ride from nearest small town. The cottage is spacious, very comfortable and has all of the amenities and equipment that you might need. It was exactly as described in the website entry - as was the wonderful starter basket/pack provided by the owner. The owner gave us a warm and friendly welcome with a useful introduction to the area. This is a perfect region for walking or cycling and we thoroughly enjoyed combining these with our sightseeing. No hesitation in recommending this cottage.

Home from home

We had a fantastic time on our first rural visit to France. The cottage was all we could have wished for and more, everything we needed was there, including bicycles! Tony's Welcome Basket was more than that, bread, butter, cheese, meat, muesli, fruit, wine, again everything we needed really. It was obvious a lot of thought has gone in to what might be needed (even down to toilet rolls and washing powder!)

The area is so beautiful, the lake was much warmer than we expected when we swam. Tony has supplied so many brochures from the Tourist Board and we had lots of ideas and suggestions from Tony himself. One of our best memories would be the underground caves in Beze (Les Grottes de Beze) you visit on a boat, we've never seen anything like it. We also particularly liked Dijon, we went on a Monday so most of the shops were closed which meant we could meander around the sights at a leisurely pace then sit in one of the squares for un cafe. In Dijon, you can follow a trail, think we left the guide at the cottage, but you can drop in to the Tourist Office and buy the trail guide which was only a few Euros, we found this a really good way of seeing everything but not having to follow a guide/group.

We will certainly be recommending this to our friends.

A big thank for making us welcome and supplying the means for a beautiful stay.

Perfect Burgundy Holiday Base

Ann&Vee Vermilion, Alberta, Canada
Review Submitted: August 12, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Since our return, we have been enthusiastically recommending "Les Rossignols" to friends as the perfect base from which to explore Burgundy. We were utterly charmed by the history of the stone building itself, beautifully restored by Tony and a very clever architect. The cottage itself is extremely clean, quiet, comfortable and well equipped - we enjoyed many evenings out on the patio, savouring the local wines and pates or meals of local ingredients that we cooked for ourselves. One of our best memories of France is hopping on one of the bikes Tony supplied and going the pastoral 2 km into Pouilly-en-Auxois each morning to the bakery to get fabulous croissants and baguettes for breakfast. Our day trips were all easy drives through gorgeous countryside on unexpectedly empty roads (perhaps we picked the ideal time to go in late May?), to fairy-tale-beautiful towns like Samur-en-Auxois, Beaune, Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, Chateauneuf, and Vezelay, and, of course, the world-renowned Fonteney Abbey. The owner, Tony, made our stay better still with a very generous welcome basket, wonderful advice on local merchants, restaurants, and sites, and a warm welcome that made us feel instantly at home. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

Wonderful time in Burgundy

Review Submitted: July 12, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
My wife and 8 year old daughter and I spent a week in the cottage in June and had a wonderful time. The weather was gorgeous, while the cottage stayed lovely and cool inside. The owner Tony lives in the same village and was welcoming and helpful, while respectful of our privacy. The welcome beer with Tony and the basket of goodies on arrival was greatly appreciated. Tony is good with children and provided kid's books, toys etc. The description of the property was accurate - in fact the cottage exceeded our expectations. Tony was very good with communication and directions by email to help us plan our trip in advance. The village is quiet and charming, and is just a couple of km from Pouilly which has an excellent large supermarket and numerous other shops. We swam in a nearby lake every afternoon. Dijon is about 30 mins by free motorway. There are numerous small villages nearby to explore. The locals were all very friendly. We took a boat tour thru a 3km canal tunnel which runs under Pouilly. We highly recommend this property.

A Wonderful stay in Burgundy

SophieK London
Review Submitted: September 14, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We loved every minute of our stay in this beautiful cottage. Situated away from it all we were delighted with the peaceful location in the small Burgundian Village of Bellenot. The cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay, and it feels like a home from home with a charming reception from the lovely owner Tony. Once you arrive at the cottage you will understand why you'll want to spend plenty of time there in the evenings. With a barbecue and a lovely walled patio you won't want to move far at all.
The surrounding areas of countryside are breathtakingly beautiful, and if like us you want to explore the scenery of Burgundy you won't be dissapointed.
Thank you again Tony for a fantastic holiday. We'll be back for more without a doubt!!

Review Submitted: September 11, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
Four of us from South Africa stayed at Nightingale cottage in June 2008.We were with delighted with the cottage, its location, its amenities, its sense of the old married to the new in an artistic manner. We spent a lot of time relaxing on the patio/terrace,consuming, a bottle or two of various Burgundian wines. On the day of arrival our welcome was warm and friendly and the basket of local goodies was a nice and much appreciated gesture. The village is French rural and chic!Pouilly en Auxois is 2 kms down the road ,a small town possessing a good supermarket, great bakeries a butchery three restaurants, an atmospheric pub etc.We toured around the beautiful countryside, visiting many old and historic towns. This was extremely easy to do as Bellenot is close by major roads and highways. Our week in Burgundy was amazing and our accommodation had a lot to do with the experience being so cool! We highly recommend "Nightingale "as a base for sightseeing in Burgundy.
