A truly original house in an idyllic location

Five friends and I shared Sunset Point House for 3 weeks in July.
The house was perfect for us. The rooms are airy and comfortable, and the wooden floors and panelled walls fit well with the natural surroundings - there's always the blue of the creek and the sky framed in the big windows, with their colourful batique curtains blowing in the breeze. Around the house there's always one or other of the balconies in shade, a perfect place to sit and read in an easy chair, or simply dangle toes in the water and watch the marine life that thrives under and around the house itself. On evenings when we weren't out exploring the island, the kitchen-dining area was perfect for hanging out and cooking amazing meals of local fish, crab and conch, staying up talking around the bar or going out onto the starlit deck to light up, with the sound of the water lapping around the pilings beneath our feet. And as for privacy - nothing overlooks this house, so you can really do as you please.
Then there's Andros - a world away from tourist centres like Nassau. Walking along the beach we had mile upon mile of white sand and blue sea completely to ourselves. We hired a truck and had days out up and down the island, finding settlements of painted houses and lively beachside spots for good Bahamian seafood and home cooking, right up to the remoteness of Red Bays with its wood carvers, where the road stops and you look out over the great shallow expanses of the Great Bahama Bank. Another day we hired a boat and motored out to a little cay, had a barbecue and went snorkelling.
Andros people welcomed us wherever we went, warm and friendly and full of humour. Bahamas Independence (10 July) and the North Andros Regatta were incredible parties. Close to the house there are 2 or 3 good night spots right in Fresh Creek - and my favourite - Sammy's bar and fish fry, just 5 minutes further in Calabash Bay.
I finished this holiday relaxed, tanned and above all healthy - with the creek all around us we all ended up swimming and snorkelling miles every day. We also cycled a fair bit, and walked a lot, and some of us did some diving.
I wouldn't recommend this for everyone - you have to love nature and seclusion, enjoy physical pursuits, eating and drinking heartily, and making your own entertainment to really get the most out of it, but I'll certainly be back, and the sooner the better.
Finally - Gabrielle and Peter are perfect hosts, welcoming and considerate.
