Two weeks in Palm Harbor

Three of us stayed here in November 2008, this villa turned out to be ideal for us as we were looking for a relaxing holiday; but it was also a good base from which to explore this area of Florida.
Although located just off the main route 19, which can take you straight to Tampa or Clearwater, the villa itself was on a very quiet secluded street, so no problems with noise.
Only one right turn onto Main Street and a five minute drive takes you straight to the excellent Honeymoon beach.
There is a Publix supermarket conveniently nearby which has everything you may need including some great steaks.
Spacious inside with three bedrooms including the on-suite master bedroom.
A large refridgerator/freezer, so you can stock up if self-catering, and all cutlery and utensils are provided.
5 minutes drive away is Honeymoon beach, our favourite. It costs $5 per car to enter but is well worth it, you can stroll along the miles of fine white sand, which gets better the further from the car park you walk. There is an idyllic walk through the woods on the island with armadillos, rattlesnakes and ospreys, great for photography; the snakes sometimes sun themselves across the path so keep an eye out when walking.
Clearwater beach is further south; it’s busier but has more amenities. It’s free but the parking is metered so it works out the same as Honeymoon beach.
Busch gardens is the main park in Tampa, it doesn’t have the charm of the Orlando Disney parks, but has easily enough to fill two days. Plan your visit around the shows on the guide you pick up at the entrance, they’re definitely worth seeing. A tip to remember is at the end of your day you can renew your ticket for another day free, to come back and do all those things you missed, and the rollercoaster’s again of course.
One of the best things we found was a canoeing trip down the Hillsborough river, although it’s really a creek which winds its way slowly through nine miles of everglade type woods. (Having been to the everglades on previous Florida holidays this was much better). It was very relaxing and definitely recommended.
We can also recommend the Pinellas County Trail for cycling.
Although we only went to the end of the north section, but it has some good parks to cycle round. Beware of drivers ignoring the ‘no right turn’ signs though, even when you have the "walk" signal.
The villa was perfect for us and had everything we needed for a great holiday.
