Peace and Relaxation

Indulged Southend-on-Sea
Review Submitted: September 29, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This extremely well equipped and comfortable gite, owned by very helpful and friendly owners, gave our family of six two pleasurable weeks of unwinding in a beautiful and unspoilt pocket of south west France. Wonderful and idyllic rivers and lakes within easy reach - La Grande Etang de la Jemaye and Auberterre sur Dronne were two favourites - soon became a daily exodus in almost uninterrupted sunshine. Our favourite no frills grill/restaurant was in Beau Vallon,Montguyon, just 10 mins away, with great pork kebabs, chicken, steak and 'perigordine' salad as well as a nice view across a lake. Freshly baked baguettes, foie gras, pineau and cognac on your doorstep - the vines grow behind the property.
Annabelle and Don, Southend-on Sea.

The best holiday we have had in France so far, The property was lovely.
There were 3 of us, 2 Adults and a 5 year old, and we found plenty to do, the owner Liz was very helpful to recommend places to visit also lots of information in folders provided in the cottage.
The local area is great with lots of local markets and lake/riverside beaches ideal for picnics and swimming. There are also plenty of places to walk.
The only down side was that we only booked 1 week and not 2.

Gite in St Martin-de-Coux

Review Submitted: July 28, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this gite which is well-equipped, clean and ideal for young families. There is a covered outdoor table which is ideal for summer eating, and the garden is perfect for young children to enjoy themselves.
The Hicks are friendly, hospitable, very helpful and non intrusive hosts.

Beautiful well presented Gite. Away from the madding crowd, French country life at its best. Even with its rural location we were never more than 10 mins from smallish towns, less than 1 hour from Bordeaux and cities of similar standing.
The Gite had all imaginable facilities not short of anything, with a pair of hosts that were never in your face but there when needed. We found Liz & Wally so helpful when deciding which town or restaurants to visit. Liz definitely knows some beautiful sights and could have a second job as a tourist guide.
Finally after a full day out, to get back to the Gite on an evening & crack a bottle or 2 with my wife & two great friends watching the sunset was out of this world.

Four happy Yorkshire travellers

The gite is wonderful. It has everything you could possibly need. The garden is very private with a nice shady spot with a table under it for meals - which we used all the time.
The surrounding countryside is beautiful and all very peaceful. There are some excellent walking/mountain biking trails which we used virtually every day - it does get muddy so come prepared. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. All in all the perfect place to relax and visit rural France.

Fabulous break

I have absolutely loved my stay at the gite. The house is very well equipped and it's in a superb location. You can take lovely walks and bike rides thru the forest (all the routes are very well sign posted) or spend your day with a good book lounging in the garden. If you have kids they will appreciate all the animals, and also there is a decent selection of games to play - so they won't be bored for quiet sometime. For adults, other past times can include: cognac and pinot testing, sightseeing the villages and towns around, or going to the sea-side for some amazing oysters and champagne.
The hosts of the gite are extremely nice and pleasant people, which makes your stay even more enjoyable.
I would highly recommend this property!

Well equipped, comfortable, easily managed holiday accommodation with large lawned garden and barbeque which can be made secure for children..Within reach of the Dordogne and an easy train ride from Coutras or Libourne takes you to the Cultured City of Bordeaux for Museums and Art Galleries. Returning home after a day sightseeing or visiting the vineyards of St Emillion you can relax in the quiet atmosphere of a real French village complete with a wonderful bakery. You arrive to a special welcome from the owners who are available should you need asistance.

Our favourite holiday destination

Liz and Steve York,Yorkshire/England
Review Submitted: May 11, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
Our family have stayed at Wally and Liz's gite almost every year since, our now grown up, children were tiny.We have just arrived back from our recent stay there and are missing it all ready. The place is definitely tranquil and we could whole heartedly recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing break. The small village of St Martin de Coux has a lovely village bakery where you can get your morning croissants and fresh bread. There are plentiful supermarkets within a few miles. When there, we love to cycle through the forest to nearby lakes for a swim, canoe on local rivers, visit local markets and generally soak up the French atmosphere. The coast is well worth a trip....our favourite spot being Lacaneau to watch the annual international surfing competition. If you are a wine lover you could not find a better place as St Emilion and the Pomerol region are so close by.The gite is cosy, clean with good facilities. The outside terrace is lovely for outdoor eating with roof providing useful shade. Wally and Liz are welcoming hosts and can give you a wealth of local holiday info. without being intrusive. In the field beside the gite there are animals for the children to admire. We have recommended the gite to friends and relatives who have all been repeat visitors.

The most relaxing holiday ever !!!

Review Submitted: May 8, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2007
I stayed in this gite a year ago with my partner and enjoyed every minute of it. Waking up to beautiful views, warm sunshine and being able to stroll over to the local bakery to buy fresh baguettes and croissants was great. My partner specially enjoyed visiting the vineyards of StEmilion and Pomerol and I loved shopping in Bordeaux (French chic!!).

Saint Martin de Coux is a very tranquil village and is great for quiet holidays. However, there is plenty to do and visit. The beach is also quite close. The owner Liz will give you plenty of information so that you can make the most of the visit.

The gite itself is incredible. Decorated with taste and originality and extremely clean. The master bedroom is spacious and has an en-suite bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with everything needed to cook the ingredients sourced from nearby local markets.

I highly recommend this gite and hope to return next year.
