A wonderful holiday

Review Submitted: August 15, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Little to add to the previous excellent reviews other to say that we too had a wonderful holiday at La Grange. The website was accurate and Chris and Kate provide spotless and well equipped gites with a fabulous view. Although we know the area quite well we did take up two of Chris' recommendations for meals - "La Roi Carotte" for dinner and "Les Marroniers" in the old station for lunch (twice). Both were completely authentic, without tourist trappings and great value for money. We also loved the walnut oil mill just down the road - delightfully absent of health and safety and really interesting.

Would definitely recommend La Ferme de la Tour to other holiday makers. We had our grown up children with us for our second week and we then occupied 3 out of the 4 gites - a wonderful way to spend time together.

Perfect Dordogne Holiday Cottage

John and Carolyn Wetherby, W Yorks
Review Submitted: July 20, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
This was our first time in a French holiday cottage, and we could not have chosen better for our 2 week stay. The location is so quiet with stunning views, and the facilities superb and immaculately presented. The swimming pool was delightful after a day of sight-seeing, especially being able to relax by the pool until 8pm in the evening sunshine!! Chris and Kate were so friendly and helpful that we felt at home immediately.
There are many restaurants in the surrounding villages and a large choice in beautiful Sarlat old town.
We highly recommend La Tour de la Ferme, and plan to return very soon.

The best gite so far

Barb and Trevor Truro, Cornwall, England
Review Submitted: July 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We have stayed in many gites in many different regions in France but La Petite Grange and La Ferme de la Tour is far and away the best so far. These are well equiped and well maintained gites. The location is perfect. Isolated enough to have stunning views and a peaceful place to relax at the end of a busy day, yet close enough to so many lovely towns and villages without spending hours in the car. Chris and Kate seem to have thought of everything, we have a 'holiday box' that we take with us whenever we go away that contains all sorts of things that we have found to be missing in different gites in the past - we didn't need any of them!

Chris and Kates recommendations for local restaurants, markets and places to visit were all spot on! Particularly the menu de jour at the Cafe de la Place in Salignac - we hope they have had the chance to try La Vielle Auberge in St Genies.

Kate has a list of the local markets, and we were given valuable information about the Wednesday evening market in Belves - a 'must' and something that we have never experienced before.

I am sure they will not rest on their laurels and La Ferme de la Tour will only improve under their careful and caring planning, they were embarking on a planting scheme around the swimming pool when we left.

We do not generally 'go back' to anywhere - only because there are so many other places to visit - but if we were ever to be passing by on our way to or from somewhere we would certainly stop over if possible or at least pop in to say hello!

We have some friends who are not yet initiated into French gite holidays and we think this is the perfect place for them to start.

You can't help but fall in love with this place. Although we were quite 'busy' while we were there we came home relaxed and refreshed.

This was our third visit to La Ferme de La Tour, and the La Grange did not disappoint. Kath and Chris maintain a very high standard of both comfort and cleanliness. La Grange is finished to a very high standard. We would recommend to anyone.

The Perfect Choice

a texan Garland, Texas USA
Review Submitted: June 4, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
My husband and I stayed in La Grange a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful visit. Our cottage was as clean as could be and had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The kitchen was well equiped and sunny in the morning. The terrace had a cute table with chairs and umbrella. The view was incredible with lush green hills and we woke to the birds singing every morning. We enjoyed walking around on the country lanes near the cottage and seeing the beautiful restored farmhouses. Driving into Sarlat and all the neighboring villages and sights was incredibly beautiful. The location was perfect because we were close to Sarlat and all it had to offer, but yet we coud go back to the cottage and enjoy its peace and scenic countryside. The family who owns the cottages were so nice and helpful with anything we asked. The were always available to answer any questions about restaurants, activities, walks, whatever we needed. I just wished that they had more time to sit on the patio and have wine with us. I would love to go back and stay there again. I definitely give this place a thumbs up!

We booked the cottage at La Ferme de La Tour for a week in May 2009, primarily because of the excellent reviews on this website. Everything exceeded our (already high) expectations. No point in repeating what previous reviewers have already said, so I'll touch on a few other points. The cottage is very child friendly with books and games in the children's bedroom and English TV (very much appreciated after several months overseas). The Dordogne is a perfect holiday destination--absolutely beautiful with loads of fun activities and sightseeing (castles, caves, canoeing...). Make sure you follow Chris' excellent advice--he will steer you in the right direction (e.g., best castle to visit with children, etc). In the cottage you will also find ample information on activities, sights, etc in the area. In sum...a fantastic place!

Pat & Liz, Scotland The Grange cottage is lovely and charmingly fitted out. The views over the Dordogne countryside are stunning. The cottage is set in quiet surroundings and it is great that Chris and Kate are on hand to give you directions to local villages and to recommend places of interest to visit. Sarlat, the nearest market town is charming, although very busy with cars. There are planty of undulating cycle routes in the area together with walking ones. It is lovely to come back to the cottage and unwind at the poolside with a glass of the local Bordeaux

La Petite Grange

Aussie Connections Wollongong, NSW, Australia
Review Submitted: July 25, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Dordogne, particularly our stay at La Ferme de La Tour. The accommodation was beautiful, well layed out, comfortable, well equipped and very clean. The photos on the website are accurate, the gite was even better than expected. The pool, with fabulous views of the countryside, was cool and welcoming after a hard day's sightseeing. Chris and Kathy were charming and very helpful hosts, especially when the poor Aussies didn't know how to change a tyre on their car, he stepped in and did the job for them. Their recommendations for restaurants in surrounding villages and places to visit were spot on. The location is peaceful and relaxing whilst being only 15 minutes from Sarlat, a very charming and lively town. We had a great time and would very much like to return.

La Grange

Review Submitted: July 3, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
La Grange was delightfully situated in beautiful countryside, ideal for walking but close enough to Sarlat and many more of the best locations in the Dordgone. The cottage itself had been superbly restored, retaining a lot of the old features and was well furnished and clean. It had lovely views from the terrace over the pool and beyond to the surrounding countryside, perfect for a relaxing evening with the barbecue and a bottle of wine. It offered everything for the best of holidays and the resident owners couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. We loved it, would highly recommend and hopefully will be back.

A wonderful introduction to staying in a Gite

Ross & Diane Australia
Review Submitted: July 3, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
We chose wisely for our very first stay in a Gite. Modern amenities and plenty of room to relax in, this was the perfect place to reinvigorate a pair of weary travellers.

Close to Sarlat and surrounded by magnificent scenery of southern France La Ferme de La Tour offers a quaint exterior with many modern interior features. The large swimming pool offers a guarantee to cool off after a busy day of sightseeing. The birdsong is wonderful and only the distant noises of a busy farmer make it a wonderful rural France experience.

Chris and Kate made us very welcome and took the time to explain the accommodation features and all the area has to offer. It felt like we were visiting friends, with plenty of time to be on our own. Resident owners give the confidence that if a problem arises then a solution is close at hand.

Thoroughly enjoyable! Highly Recommended!
