Residence of Character and Charm

Bathroom bliss Edinburgh, UK
Review Submitted: August 30, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The apartment is as it appears in the photos, clean, tastefully decorated, fully equipped and absolutely brilliant. My wife and I stayed for a week in August and found everything to our liking. It is a haven to explore the city, being in easy (10 mins) walking distance to the centre and offers an oasis of calm when returning from a hot day sightseeing or touring. It is up four sets of stairs so does require some fitness to approach in comfort. The most incredible room in the place however is not illustrated which seems bizarre as the bathroom was the best part. It is admitedly small containing only a shower, toliet and basin but it is ingeniously designed and all in cool marble. It is even possible to sit on the loo and shower your tired feet all at the same time. Bliss! We found the kitchen a tight squeeze but fully functional and quite cosy. Everything is provided right down to the clothes-pegs for drying essential laundry. There are books left behind for light reading mainly in English including many giudes to the area. There is also a radio-CD player and a DVD player should you wish. We found access no problem and were left alone entirely the whole week. We cannot fault the owners or the property. It was a treasure of a find.

Apartment in the Heart of Florence

Val & John Stoke on Trent UK
Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
The apartment was a perfect base for exploring the city. When we arrived we were greeted warmly & shown around by the caretakers who were also neighbours. The photos give an accurate impression of the appartment and it is very comfortable for a like minded couple wanting a base from which to explore Florence and it environs. It is very quiet & peaceful. One of our highlights, a few minutes walk away, was an evening on the Piazza Santa Croce watching a dramatic performance of The Divine Comedy.Public transport is a very reasonable way to get around the city, the nearest bus stop a couple of minutes away. There are good restaurants & coffee bars all near at hand and a little cheaper than in the main tourist Piazzas.
In summary we think we were lucky to find this property as a base for our holiday this summer & would reccomned it to you.

Quiet and spacious apartment

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Stayed here three nights in May and felt like a native. Apartment is quiet, has high ceilings, and large cool rooms offering respite from the city's heat and bustle. Bathroom is very ample with walk-in shower, and filled with morning light. Lots of sun, in fact, as the apartment is on the top floor. It also has a small outdoor terrace on which we took a.m. coffee and p.m. wine while pondering in Forsteresque fashion the surrounding rooftops of Florence. Great open air market five minutes away, many shops and fine restaurants closer than that. About a 15 minute walk to the center of town. Landlord and neigbors across the hall very helpful; apartment spotless and well appointed/ provisioned. Couldn't have been finer.

Lovely spacious well equipped flat

Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
This is a lovely spacious well equipped flat in a quiet area of Florence about 10 minutes walk from the Uffizi. It has a small covered balcony (if you are lucky, the local and good string quartet will be playing!). A parking garage is on the parallel street and solves the car problem. The owner is very helpful in giving advice and in prebooking museums (well worth doing in the high tourist season). The kitchen is good enough and the trattoria on the next street (the way to the garage) is excellent. The only concern is that the flat is on the 3rd floor so, if you don't like steps, the flat won't suit you.

wonderful Florence apartment

Review Submitted: February 24, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
We had a great 2 weeks in Florence and loved wandering the streets, shops and markets; and of course the many galleries and museums. The apartment location is excellent for exploring all of Florence on foot. The nearby smaller produce market (Sant Ambrogia) we really enjoyed and bought home the makings of many great meals. Not complete without a bottle of Vin Santo and a bag of cantuccini for dessert of course! We enjoyed many fun and atmospheric lunches in the Trattoria La Rocca within the Sant Ambrogia market. An excellent place to dine with child!!

We did day trips to Fiesole (by bus) and Lucca and Siena (by train) which were all different and very enjoyable.

Your apartment is terrific and we enjoyed very much having a home of our own on the land for a short while. We found it very comfortable, well equipped and a warm welcoming place to come home to each day. We will be sure to recommend it to any of our family or friends that decide to holiday in Florence in the future.

Your assistance in the booking and our arrival etc was personal and helpful and we thank you for that. İt couldnt have gone more smoothly from our perspective.

All the best to you and thanks again

Kylie

Real Florence experience

Review Submitted: January 24, 2009 Date of Stay: December 2008
We stayed here after Christmas and over New Year to celebrate our anniversary. This is a gorgeous apartment – the sort that you always hope you will find and rarely do. As there are a number of reviews already, we will focus on the things we found important.

Making the reservation was easy. We got quick replies in perfect English to our many questions in the months leading up to our stay. The owner helped us with our museum bookings and he did not charge.

The street is one of the most historic in Florence, full of ancient palaces standing side by side much smaller buildings like the one the apartment is in. This area still has a life of its own, unusual for Florence city center. In our block there was the Accadi, a very good neighborhood favorite. We ate there several times, and we enjoyed the genuine Florentine food, the friendly service and the very moderate prices (less than 30 Euro each for a full evening meal with wine)! We do not each lunch but they do a very good value lunch (set menu, limited choice).

We enjoyed getting to know this particular bit of Florence well – one of our great finds was the chapel of St Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi, up the street. This is almost impossible to spot unless you are looking for it – there is just an ordinary street door, but when you go in, there is a perfect cloister with garden, the gorgeous church itself, and the mural by Perugino. We went to the New Year Mass there and it was an experience that we will never forget.

We shopped a lot at the open-air market (Ambrogio) and enjoyed going back to the same stalls to get our produce and being recognized! There is a supermarket much nearer which we used occasionally. I went to the local hairdresser and we both went to the local coffee bar and enjoyed them. People were friendly and good humored. The other people in the apartment building were Florentines and were friendly and welcoming when we met them on the stairs. That made a real difference and we felt we really did make contact with the people.

We loved this apartment and what the other reviewers stay is true: it is very clean, very well maintained, very well furnished, well-decorated, perfect for visiting the sights etc. etc.!!!

Two big negatives: the apartment is not at all suitable for young children or for anyone with mobility issues.

Our stay in Florence – not just this apartment but the whole experience - was magical. We had such a good

Great base to explore Florence

Porcellina Sydney, Australia
Review Submitted: January 15, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
This apartment is very well placed in a characterful alley way in the historic centre of Florence. Everything you could wish to see (Duomo, Uffizi, Accadamia etc) is no more than a 15-20 minute walk away. When the weather gets hot it's easy to pop back in the middle of the day, crank up the air-conditioning and re-charge your batteries before heading out again in the late afternoon/early evening. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby and a supermarket so catering is easy. We couldn't find the CD/DVD player but didn't really miss it because there was so much else to do. The bed in the enormous bedroom was very comfortable and it was lovely waking up to the sound of church bells. There's heaps of room for all your clothes but there's no lift and the apartment is on the top floor so it's a good idea to pack light! Otherwise the stairs are a perfect way to burn off all those calories from eating pizza, pasta and ice-cream! The washing machine was fine and it was easy to dry clothes overnight on the balcony off the main bedroom. The apartment was clean and well-maintained. There's no parking but having a car in Florence is a burden, not an accessory. You can easily get to Pisa and Lucca by train if you want. All up, we had a great week and would highly recommend it. a wonderful place to call home while in Florence

Review Submitted: January 14, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
The apartment was such a bonus for us. We knew Florence was beautiful, but to live like the locals was the best travel experience. The apartment was the perfect place to stay. It is 3 or 4 blocks from the Duomo and the Baptistry, 5 blocks from the supermarket, and a short walk to the Ponte Vecchio. There are restaurants, shops, and many tourist stops very close to this apartment. So easy to navigate the town and get back home in time for lunch. To actually live in Florence was made possible by this beautiful, spacious, and very functional home. It felt like home not just a rental. When we had questions the owner answered them immediately and thoroughly. The kitchen proved to be well equipped and produced many great Italian meals while we were there. The big refrigerator held all of my wines and cheeses, too. Even though the balcony was small it afforded me enough room to set up my paints and create a painting of the rooftops of Florence. The fact that it had 2 living rooms helped since my husband did his computer work in one and I lounged in the other! We will definitely return to this home in Florence again.

The apartment is really nice and in a central location, but the kitchen is cramped and a bit awkward to cook in (but no big deal).
We were well looked after and I would recommend the apartment for anyone fit enough to climb the stairs.

A wonderful find in a quiet area of Florence

JulianV Austin, TX
Review Submitted: June 25, 2007 Date of Stay: June 2007
My husband and I stayed in this apartment for 3 nights recently and were very happy with the unit. The location was perfect for us since we did not want to be near any of the more chaotic parts of Florence and most of the shops and markets I wanted to visit were within a few minute's walk of this apartment.

I lived in Florence for 7 years until a few years ago and as an ex-'local', I knew that this would be an ideal area for us. Mercato Sant'Ambrogio is very close by and much better than Mercato Centrale (where only tourists shop). There are also several wonderful little shops and restaurants in this area where the locals still go (as opposed to the areas around the Duomo (Dome) which tend to be thronging with tourists (not to mention the overinflated tourist prices!)).

The apartment is beautifully decorated and very well-maintained. The kitchen is very tiny however, so hosting our Florence friends for the lunches and dinners we shared with them would have been difficult (but most people coming to Florence wouldn't have need of a spacious kitchen). The kitchen would be perfectly appropriate for preparing simple meals, however.

Oh, and the best thing -- the bed was amazingly comfortable! After staying in numerous other rental properties in Italy, the one major common flaw is the use of the typical cheap, wire-mesh bed frame, where the center of the bed completely sags in the middle (so two people end up squished together in the bottom of the sag). This apartment's bed is the modern type with a wooden frame and very firm mattress (on which, after two weeks on a less comfortable bed, we slept amazingly well and almost didn't want to get up!).

The only drawback of the apartment is the lack of an elevator - but if your suitcases aren't that heavy, then it's not a huge issue lugging them up and down the 5 storeys. The climb up and down the stairs without suitcases is easy and it's nice to be on the top floor of the building with the quaint little terrace.

Another huge plus of the unit is the fact that there are two air conditioning units in the apartment. Although we were there in the relatively cooler month of June, if you visit Florence in July or August and stay in the center, you will definitely appreciate having air conditioning in this valley town that traps the heat.

We look forward to staying in the apartment again during our next visit which will definitely be longer than this last one.
Owner's Response: Just to clarify - the apartment is not on the fifth floor. It is on the third floor in European terms; fourth floor in US terms (ground floor, first floor, etc.). Thank you for the wonderful review!
