A true retreat with wonderful dark skies

Casa Lucia was everything we expected and more. Whilst small in size, just 3 internal rooms (a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/lounge) it had all necessary requirements to enjoy a week's stay. It also has a great patio area where we actually spent most of our time.
The location is superb. Views over the village of Puntagorda and onwards to the sea and great sunsets. It is also a short 250m walk to the local supermarket (except the gradient is a steady 1in 5). But in La Palma you will get used to walking up or down, nowhere is flat.
Whilst the temperature was high at times we did get out and the walking and scenery is simply breath-taking. For a quick trip out we do recommend Tazacorte. Here you can enjoy a small beach and a seafront which is not too touristy.
The one thing to spoil our tranquillity was the week-long PuntaGorda festival. We hoped to miss it but unfortunately hit it the week of our stay. Unless you want to boogie until 4a.m. each night then this was a distraction at the start of the week and towards the end a real nuisance. Made worse by the location that allowed the noise to carry into right into the bedroom.
But I don't want this review to put folks off. For 51 weeks of the year this is an exceptional location. Also we cannot praise the hosts Rob and Hazel enough. As English host they were a great help for us who do not speak Spanish at all.
Finally to mention the night skies. As an amateur astronomer, the sky from PuntaGorda has some of the darkest nights I have experienced in the World. Even with the festival in full swing. Fantastic !!.
N.B. Just a note for the English tourists. In the 2 weeks we were in the north of La Palma, we never met another English tourist and no one in any shop, garage or even restaurant spoke English (although some did have English menus). However, from someone who has no command of Spanish, this was not a great problem for us. In fact it added to the feeling you were really on holiday.
Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to write such an informative review. The reviews really do help future guests decide on whether or not Casa Lucia is the right holiday home to choose.
We are pleased that you enjoyed the superb location, panoramic views and great sunsets that Casa Lucia to offer. Just as you found, our guests tend to spend most of their time outdoors eating and relaxing on the terrace!
The income of the island is mainly from agriculture and there are not very many English speaking Palmeros. If guests have no command of Spanish there is no need to worry as the locals are a very friendly bunch and will always take the time to say Hola and help in any way they can.
Regarding the village festival, this is the first year it has taken place during the third week in August. Until this year, the fiesta has always been held during the first two weeks of the month, the second week having live music. For the remaining 51 weeks of the year you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of this lovely retreat. And we try to inform our guests before booking, of any festivals or Bank Holidays that may occur during their holiday.
As you say the scenery around the village of Puntagorda is breathtaking and the night sky is fantastic to behold, whether an amateur astronomer or an appreciative visitor. For many of our guests it is the first time in their lives that they have ever seen The Milky Way.
