The Perfect Honeymoon

Paellero Tucson, Arizona, U.S.
Review Submitted: November 7, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Before we contacted our hosts we never expected more than a place to stay during our honeymoon. Of course we knew the location would be beautiful (honoring la Isla Bonita) but we were also rewarded with outstanding communication and flexibility throughout the process, a most friendly welcome and an incredible sense of peace and tranquility during our stay. We enjoyed the beauty of the island and the cuteness and comfort of "our casa Lucia", we will never forget having our lazy breakfasts in the private terrace, watching the clouds from above as if in some magical land and, Thanks to Rob and Hazel's friendly recommendations, we came back home with a camera and a heart full of great memories. We can only hope that some day we might return to continue discovering the jewels of "la isla" and share another dish of paella and a wonderful bottle of Vega Norte (you must try this regional white wine when you go) with our hosts in what we refer to as The Perfect Honeymoon place. Basically, be prepared to have a great time in a great place that you will never want to leave
Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed a perfect honeymoon at Casa Lucia and that you have many happy memories of your special holiday!
We were glad that we were able to help and offer advice before your visit, regarding the planning of your journey to La Palma from the USA, and also during your stay. Knowing the island and being on hand, we can offer our guests information on the places to visit, the restaurants to eat in and the very good wines that the island has to offer! We appreciated your kind invitation and enjoyed sharing an excellent paella that you prepared for us on your last evening.
And finally, you are not the first guests who have said that “we never want to leave”. We hope that you manage another trip to Casa Lucia again one day.

Lovely peaceful place

Review Submitted: September 20, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Lovely place. We had a great time, very good landlords!

Possibly if you want to walk, don't go in July, as it was hot
(but lovely weather otherwise)

Be prepared to drive very windy roads, but worth it

We would highly recommend Casa Lucia and La Palma
Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review of Casa Lucia. We are pleased that you had a good time and enjoyed our peaceful haven. We do try to ensure that our guests are as comfortable as possible.

Thanks also for highly recommending the apartment, this will be a great help to future guests who are looking for a lovely place to stay.
There are winding roads on La Palma but there is not a lot of traffic and as you say, hiring a car and driving is worth it as the scenery is spectacular.

Casa Lucia Retreat

Review Submitted: September 18, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
What a fantastic place to stay, our hosts Rob and Hazel were so obliging and their advice on walks, restaurants and places to visit were invaluable.
If you wish to party all night this is not the place for you but if you wish to relax, take some relatively strenuous exercise, (there aren't many flat places on the island) or stay awake watching the sunset and then the crystal clear sky at night, this is the place for you.
Rob and Hazel will leave you to your own devices if you wish but I believe that you would miss out on a valuable resource, they know the island and the language and have a joy talking about both.
Casa Lucia is a small, clean and totally adequate retreat for those wishing to relax and enjoy each others company.
We promised ourselves not to return to the same place twice, but we hardly touched the surface here and we look forward to meeting with Rob and Hazel once more, if only to taste Robs fresh veg and fruit from the garden or Hazel's fantastic home-made marmalade.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are really pleased that you enjoyed your holiday here at Casa Lucia. We try to ensure that our guests have as much privacy as possible but we are always on hand to answer questions and offer advice on local restaurants, nearby walks and places to visit.

It is good to hear that you enjoyed the organic produce fresh from the garden as well as our home made marmalade which seems to gaining a reputation! As you mention there is much to explore on the island and we will be delighted to see you at Casa Lucia once again.

A true retreat with wonderful dark skies

rykastro Manchester,UK
Review Submitted: September 10, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Casa Lucia was everything we expected and more. Whilst small in size, just 3 internal rooms (a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/lounge) it had all necessary requirements to enjoy a week's stay. It also has a great patio area where we actually spent most of our time.

The location is superb. Views over the village of Puntagorda and onwards to the sea and great sunsets. It is also a short 250m walk to the local supermarket (except the gradient is a steady 1in 5). But in La Palma you will get used to walking up or down, nowhere is flat.

Whilst the temperature was high at times we did get out and the walking and scenery is simply breath-taking. For a quick trip out we do recommend Tazacorte. Here you can enjoy a small beach and a seafront which is not too touristy.

The one thing to spoil our tranquillity was the week-long PuntaGorda festival. We hoped to miss it but unfortunately hit it the week of our stay. Unless you want to boogie until 4a.m. each night then this was a distraction at the start of the week and towards the end a real nuisance. Made worse by the location that allowed the noise to carry into right into the bedroom.

But I don't want this review to put folks off. For 51 weeks of the year this is an exceptional location. Also we cannot praise the hosts Rob and Hazel enough. As English host they were a great help for us who do not speak Spanish at all.

Finally to mention the night skies. As an amateur astronomer, the sky from PuntaGorda has some of the darkest nights I have experienced in the World. Even with the festival in full swing. Fantastic !!.

N.B. Just a note for the English tourists. In the 2 weeks we were in the north of La Palma, we never met another English tourist and no one in any shop, garage or even restaurant spoke English (although some did have English menus). However, from someone who has no command of Spanish, this was not a great problem for us. In fact it added to the feeling you were really on holiday.
Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to write such an informative review. The reviews really do help future guests decide on whether or not Casa Lucia is the right holiday home to choose.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the superb location, panoramic views and great sunsets that Casa Lucia to offer. Just as you found, our guests tend to spend most of their time outdoors eating and relaxing on the terrace!

The income of the island is mainly from agriculture and there are not very many English speaking Palmeros. If guests have no command of Spanish there is no need to worry as the locals are a very friendly bunch and will always take the time to say Hola and help in any way they can.

Regarding the village festival, this is the first year it has taken place during the third week in August. Until this year, the fiesta has always been held during the first two weeks of the month, the second week having live music. For the remaining 51 weeks of the year you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of this lovely retreat. And we try to inform our guests before booking, of any festivals or Bank Holidays that may occur during their holiday.

As you say the scenery around the village of Puntagorda is breathtaking and the night sky is fantastic to behold, whether an amateur astronomer or an appreciative visitor. For many of our guests it is the first time in their lives that they have ever seen The Milky Way.

Casa Lucia - get away from it all

pixy sheffield, south yorkshire
Review Submitted: April 25, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
We stayed at Casa Lucia for a week at Easter and wish it had been longer. The apartment had every facility we need ed and was very comfortable. It was very clean, well appointed and simply but beatuifully decorated. It was particularly relaxing to sit or lie on the terrace and look at the stunning view and all the flowers in the beautiful garden. We enjoyed the fresh produce from the garden. Hazel was very welcoming but gave us plenty of privacy too. The house is situated very conveniently for the village which provided everything we needed at the supermarket as well as some delicious meals at local restaurants and a modern, upmarket bar. We also enjoyed the local market - a great place for produce and mementoes of our trip. Puntagorda was well placed for a range of spectacular walks and drives and close enough to Tazacorte to enjoy the beach and seafront dining.Puntagorda port was well worth a wlak down hundreds of steps and would be a lovely place for a swim on hotter days. For a trip well away from mass tourism and overdevelopment I can't imagine a better location. We hope to return one day in the not too distant future.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review. We are sure that it will be of help to future guests in choosing a peaceful, private and comfortable location, yet close to everything that the village of Puntagorda has to offer. It was great that you found time to relax on the sunny terrace with its panoramic view over the Atlantic Ocean. We are pleased that you had such an enjoyable time and we will be delighted to see you at Casa Lucia once again.

Winter break at Casa Lucia

Review Submitted: March 3, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
La Palma and our stay at Casa Lucia had everything we hoped for on our winter break. We loved the variety of the landscape from the strange volcanic rock formations at the highest point of the Island down through evergreen woods and blossoming almond trees to the exotic cacti and banana plantations on the coast.

Casa Lucia provided a haven from which the explore the Island. Starting with a warm welcome from Hazel and Rob (including a bottle of wine cooling in the fridge) we felt at home thanks to the careful and detailed planning which has gone in to designing the apartment. Comfortable beds, crisp white linen, supplies of fresh towels, an attractive sitting and eating area and well equipped kitchen which had everything we needed for self catering.

Casa Lucia is part of the main house but is designed for privacy if needed. The separate terrace was great for soaking up sun, al fresco eating or for gazing at the ever changing skies, the Atlantic sea views and the spectacular sun sets.

Hazel and Rob are tactful hosts but it was good to have them on hand for useful tips and local information including the best palces to eat out. There is plenty of choice within easy reach. The local shops are well stocked but don't miss the lively local market which operates on Saturdays and Sundays. We also appreciated delicioius fresh veg from Rob's garden. All together a great holiday.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for writing such a great review. Rob and I are really pleased that you felt at home at Casa Lucia.
We have tried to create a very comfortable space where our guests can relax and enjoy their holiday, where coming home to a comfy bed with crisp white linen is one of the enjoyable moments.
Whether you want to eat at home or sample the variety of restaurants close by, Casa Lucia is ideally placed and equipped.
As for our garden, we are looking forward to an abundant crop of figs, melons, papayas, plums, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers and aubergines later this year.
We are really pleased that you had a great holiday and it would be lovely to see you here again.

A SUPER PEACEFUL LOCATION

Liz & Phil Farnham, Surrey
Review Submitted: February 26, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
Casa Lucia lived up to our high expectations based on previous reports. We spent two weeks walking in the North West of this lovely island using both hire car and local buses to get to those walks further away from the very nice village of Puntagorda.
Having Rob & Hazel on site was a real benefit as they were always available when needed to answer questions and provide information and yet Casa Lucia retains its privacy.
We ate in most of the time and were able to get everything we needed in the local supermarket and butchers shop. The kitchen was well equipped as was the dining area and the local wine was also much enjoyed. As a bonus Rob produced a stream of fruit and veg from the garden.
Unfortunately in February we could not spend as much time as we had hoped to on the terrace but the internal space was ample for two and the condition and cleanliness were both excellent.
All in all an excellent location with super hosts.
Owner's Response: Thank you for such a comprehensive review, we are pleased that Casa Lucia lived up to your high expectations. We maintain the apartment ourselves and try to ensure that it is comfortable and spotless for each new guest that arrives. There is always a chilled bottle of wine, beer and water in the fridge to quench your thirst after the drive from the airport and we usually have some freshly picked fruit and veg awaiting you, depending on the season.
Puntagorda is the perfect place from which to explore the North West of this beautiful island and we are pleased that you found Casa Lucia to be such an excellent location.

Holiday or Heaven?

Alexandria Winchester, United Kingdom
Review Submitted: November 24, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2008
The presentation of this property is a credit to the hosts, Hazel and Rob. Casa Lucia offers all the comforts of home. Fresh produce from the garden and amazing sunsets from the patio are an added bonus.

The village of Puntagorda has a number of authentic bars and restaurants to quench a thirst and tempt the taste buds. The locals are a friendly bunch.

La Palma is a diverse island awaiting exploration, with unexpected delights around every corner. Returing to Casa Lucia after a day's sightseeing is heaven.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Casa Lucia. From the emails and phone calls we receive we know that every review is helpful to future guests. La Palma is an island awaiting exploration and with the direct flights from the UK, the British should make the most of the varied delights that the island has to offer.
Here at Casa Lucia we aim to provide a very comfortable, relaxed home from home where you can chill out and enjoy the surrounding peace and tranquility, not forgetting the wonderful sunsets every evening. No TV required, just come and enjoy the wonderful views day and night from our terrace.

a sunset every night (almost)

Review Submitted: November 5, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
What a fabulous little house Casa Lucia was! We arrived late after a flight delay and found the drive from the airport to be quite challenging in the dark but we were made very welcome straight away. Rob and Hazel are very 'low key' and are not intrusive at all but once we mentioned our interest in their garden they provided us with a fabulous range of fresh fruit and vegetables, left on the terrace for us to enjoy after our day's walking. If you like food then their tomatoes are wonderful.
Casa Lucia is very convenient for exploring the Caldera which is absolutely breathtaking on a clear day. The beach (and restaurants) at Tazacorte were lovely. Do not miss a visit to the local puerto - it is too far to walk without LOTS of water (we tried!) but the rock hewn swimming pool filled with sea water is fabulous and can be quite exciting!
The terrace is wonderful in the evening, where we sat watching the sun go down and then ate under the stars. We ate 'in' most evenings and the kitchen contained everything we needed. The beds are very comfortable and the linen is lovely. The bedroom aso hosts the cutest and smallest little house geko we had ever seen.
The local supermarket stocks more than the supermarket in the centre of the village although the climb back up to the house is very steep so take your car!
We had a great time.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review of your stay at Casa Lucia. Other guests have said that the reviews really do help them in their decision to book with us.
Having such a panoramic sea view from the terrace, the wonderful sunsets (almost) every night are a constant source of delight to all of our guests. We try to add a touch of luxury with our Egyptian cotton bed linen and duvets of different tog ratings to accommodate the changing seasons. For those of you who enjoy eating in, we try to ensure that the kitchen is very well equipped and we usually have some organic produce available from our garden.
We are pleased that you enjoyed your holiday at Casa Lucia and if you decide to visit La Palma again we would be delighted to see you if you chose to return.

Restful, Restorative, Recommended !

Dave and Mary Northamptonshire, England
Review Submitted: June 1, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
We have just returned from a wonderful second stay at Casa Lucia, Puntagorda. Our first in 2006 was a real treat and we have once again enjoyed this holiday in a stunning location on the beautiful unspoilt island that is La Palma.
Casa Lucia is a haven- well equipped, spotlessly clean and peaceful. The comfortable beds are a bonus after days spent walking and exploring the interesting locality and enjoying the delights offered by local restaurants. We have enjoyed a number of excellent meals, freshly prepared and served with a welcoming smile.
The south facing terrace at Casa Lucia overlooks the Atlantic and is a great place to catch the sunsets or sit star gazing in the warm evening air.
The English owners are very knowledgeable about the island and without being intrusive, are always willing to offer guidance and share information and give generously items of their own delicious organic home grown seasonal produce.
Restful and restorative, we are certainly looking forward to our next visit to Casa Lucia and have already recommended it to friends and family.
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to write a review. We are delighted our guests had such a good holiday. The best recommendation we can receive is by repeat bookings and as such look forward to welcoming back familiar faces as well as new.
