Bloomsbury apartment

Review Submitted: October 15, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We recently spent 6 days at this apartment and found it excellent. It was great having a kitchen given prices in London and the supermarket is quite close. The beds were really confortable and it was a quiet retreat at the end of the day. We had our 3 children with us and found the apartment much roomier than I expected. The owners were helpful and let us stay until 2.00pm on the day we were leaving. Just be warned that there quite a lot of steps!

our first family stay in London

GOOXF Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain
Review Submitted: September 9, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
I would definitely recommend this flat mostly because everything that was advertised was absolutely true. That means: it is well located, there are two supermarkets quite near (and near the tube stations), and it looks as nice (or even better) as shown in the photos. It was perfectly clean and well maintained. I had all the support I asked from the owner and a lot of useful information. The owner is very formal. The only disadvantage I would find is the long stairs to reach the appartment, and that maybe it is a little expensive though worth the money paid. The whole family, my husband and my 3 children (already teenagers) loved the placed and we all felt very at ease!

We are a family of four (2 adults, 2 children of 10 and 12). We stayed here for the first week of our five week European tour, and used it as base to see the sights of London.

The apartment was very comfortable, very quiet and relaxing after hard days spent traipsing around the city. It has lots of space to spread out in after all the crowds.

The location is convenient - two tube stations are nearby, a shopping centre, and various restaurants and shops.

It's not the cheapest place to stay (especially with an A$ exchange rate!), but definitely worth the rate.

The owners were friendly and helpful - we really felt welcome here. We will stay here again on our next trip to the UK.

We stayed at this very pleasant clean apt for 4 nights in Sept with our 7 year old son. The apt is vey spacious and can easily sleep 5 adults. It was a 10 min walk to 3 tube stations and 10 min to a Waitrose Supermarket. It was very well provisioned with dishwsher, washing machine, kitchen utensils etc the only surprising thing was having to provide our own soap and toliet rolls - I think for this price or increasing the price to adjust it would be better to include such basic necesseties as it was along way to bring supplies from New Zealand on a Sunday with the shops shut!
All public transport is free for children 11 and younger and all public museums are now free - the British Museum is within walking distance and Tower of London only a few tube stops. Buy an Oyster card for easy of use on buses and trains. Nearby there is a playground for young children.
We ate one night at a nearby Italian Restaurant Ciao Bella that was recommended in the book, the place was full of people with piano player but the food was terrible - my risotto was with long rice and like a dry pilau not creamy. We took a 715am mini cab (the expensive one listed in the apt book) to London City Airport and it only cost 20 pounds and took 30 mins.
The owners are very helpful with any queries you may have.
A very convient base in London - would recommend to all (except those with disabilities).

Owner's Response: There is a 24 hour Tesco store opposite the local tube station at Russell Square and there is really no need to bring provisions from New Zealand to London, no matter what time you arrive. We do not provide soap and personal toiletries due to the unhappy prevalence of allergies nowadays.

Great little find for my family. I currently live in the UK and needed a bigger place to house some family members 2 Adults and 3 Children, was excellent location, very spacious and good size bathroom and bedrooms. Only complaint was lots of stairs, but I'm use to that, my Aussie realitves were not!

Would recommend again! 5/5

Bloomsbury Apartment

Andrew W Perth, Western Australia
Review Submitted: July 17, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
The property is easy to access being on the Heathrow line and a 10 min walk from Russell Square Underground station. It is quite possible to walk to theatres in the West End.
It was clean and roomy and the facilities were quite good except fot the hot water system which was temperamental.. The stairway up to the bedrooms is very steep.
The owners were most helpful and provided very good service and information prior to the stay. They were available if required and left plenty of information handy about local services.
Two good little pubs within 40 meters and lots of places to eat, food shop etc. Internet access within walking distance..

Owner's Response: The hot water system has since been adjusted and guests are respectfully advised not to tamper with the boiler controls. The stairway up to the two bedrooms is steep as this apartment has been fashioned out of a 200-year old house, originally built for a wealthy London family. The bedrooms are in what would once have been the servants quarters. The staircases that would have been used by the family living in the house on other floors are wide and rather grand.
There is no need to walk to an internet cafe as the apartment has wi-fi internet access - just bring your laptop or any wi-fi enabled computer.

We were thrilled we found this flat in our search for the perfect place to stay in London on a family budget because it was absolutely wonderful!!! We stayed there in mid-March and despite the cold weather, ourtside the flat was perfect for us!!!

We found the flat to be very conveniently located to all the major tourist attractions that London has to offer! It was just a few minutes walk to 3 different tube lines and in a very safe neighborhood. There were some great local restaurants in the area and a grocery store nearby.

Inside the flat was comfortable and had all the necessities. We enjoyed reading through the local interest books in your bookshelf and found the Rough Guide to London very helpful! The washing machine came in very handy for our long stay!!!

I would highly recommend this flat to any of our friends and family and to you reading this!

''We stayed at 22 John Street for a week while on a business/holiday trip to London. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The apartment is tastefully decorated and has all modern amenities. The location was central to both my wife's office in Holborn as well as virtually all of central London. The apartment is situated in a relatively quiet portion of Bloomsbury, near numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, pubs and parks. Public transportation is very convenient, with three tubes within an easy walk. The British Museum, Covent Garden, and the theatres and restaurants of the West End are all just short walks the apartment. We spent most of our time exploring the nearby neighborhoods and occasionally venturing further afield on the bus or the Tube to see the sights of the wonderful city.

We highly recommend 22 John Street as a wonderful place to stay in central London and would visit again (and hope to!)''
