An oasis of a base

What a great place to stay! In the heart of town but really really quiet due to the narrow streets. Bask on the terrace or cool down within the thick stone walls. A lovely welcoming property to return to at the end of days exploring the amazing Andalucian countryside and towns. We only recently discovered Spain and the incredible culture of this area, and this is the perfect location to explore it from, and a great town house with real character

Do visit Ronda and El Chorro and the lakes - simply stunning. In Ronda, take a look at all 3 bridges, visit the islamic era baths and the Ronda Museum, which has amazing views from the downstairs rooms... Alora itself has the castle, churches and multiple great bars and eateries. The area itself is great for culture, scenery, and exploring on two wheels or four, although cycling only for the seriously committed! Better off with something with an engine to my mind... although once you get up the the top of the mountains the views are to die for.

Glinys and her husband (the owners of this property) actually live on the other side of Alora and made sure we had everything we needed from extensive local information and leaflets about Alora and beyond, as well as being happy to advise on days out and being on the end of a phone if we needed them (we didn't!). Oh, and a great welcome pack of essentials in the fridge on arrival, which took the stress away from day one. Lovely clean welcoming property and we will definitely stay again. The perfect place to explore a perfect region from.

and a very genuine stay! The description regarding location and facilities was absolute accurate and the friendly owners provide a warm welcome and lots of information about the surroundings. We stayed there for climbing around El chorro and the gorge and can recommend the accomodation to any other climbers. The kitchen was well equipped and we loved to have breakfast and dinner on the large balkony upstairs.

We have just returned from Alora (spent 17 fab days in August 2009) and had a wonderful time. The weather was stunning, up in the 40's every day. The village of Alora is very quaint set on a hillside but very hard on the old 'achilles' - you have to be quite fit to get about. There are lovely tapas bars and restaurants in the village, all close the townhouse. We all loved the townhouse it was very spacious and very clean. The plunge pool was fab I dont think we would have survived without it. Glinys was so helpful and kind and at the end of the phone if we needed her. We hired a car for 8 days in the middle of our holiday. Ronda is definately worth a visit. The lakes, which are not too far away, are also stunning, spent two days swimming in them. When we didnt have the car we lazed about on the patio or caught the train into Malaga it was so cheap and easy. We had a great holiday, townhouse was excellent, village great, weather stunning. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

As our heads told us repeatedly passing the small doors, your house was a little bit smaller than expected. But day by day we loved this authentic spanish home and Àlora more and more. Especially we loved the breakfasts and relaxing evenings on the wonderful terrace. Àlora was the perfect central basic camp to explore the treasures of Andalusia and its towns. We and our heads will never forget this wonderful journey and accomodation.

If you're after a relaxing week in the sun, spanish culture, and plenty of sights to see and things to do, then this is the place for you!

Alora was a fantastic place to stay. A real traditional spanish town, which showed us the other side to spain - a much welcomed change from high rise blocks packed full of holiday makers! It was nice to explore the winding streets on foot, with plenty of shops, cafe's, restuarants / bars, and friendly locals. There was nothing we needed that couldn't be bought. We had a car, and so easily checked out the mountains, the beaches at the costa del sol, the lakes (you can hire kayaks for just a few euro's per hour), and on a previous visit, the gorge / bridges at Ronda which is definately worth a visit. The scenary driving along some of the mountain roads was spectacular.

The house itself is lovely. Plenty of space both inside, and outside on the terraces. It's full of charactor, and has a well equipped kitchen. Was great to have the essentials already in the fridge on arrival. Loads of good quality linen and towels. We lived outdoors off the bbq's the majority of the time. A real bonus to have the sky TV in the lounge aswell! One of the best things was just how welcoming and friendly the owners are - they were always happy to help, and point us in the right direction.

A great place, for something beyond just the normal beach holiday. Will be back next year!

Alora town house

Attractive Andalucian hilltop town. Very interesting old house, but very comfortable and well-equipped (including freeview satellite TV). Welcome pack is a bonus, and previous visitors' left-overs mean you don't have to go out and buy washing up liquid and things like that. Owners live nearby and are very friendly and helpful. In a quieter area of the village, but don't expect perfect peace and quiet - this is Spain after all!

The best thing about this rental was the incredible hospitality of the owners John and Glynis, and the superb location for traveling throughout Andalucia. Alora is a delightful pueblo blanco with an excellent supermarket that has daily fresh fish and vegetables. Jolanda's and Inaki's Restaurant was one of the highlights of our stay. They have authentic local fare, and Inaki takes the time to explain all of the local dishes and how they're prepared. There is easy access to nearby parks and plentiful hiking trails. We especially enjoyed picking wild thyme and rosemary and using the herbs in our cooking. Easy access to Malaga airport also made it easuy for relatives to visit us. Granada, Cordoba, El Chorro, Antiquerra, Campillos leather outlets, Ronda, and Mijas bullfights were all within comfortable day trip driving. Our 6 week stay was wonderful!

Cosy townhouse

Review Submitted: June 6, 2008 Date of Stay: February 2008
We stayed here with a group of 6 climbers to climb in El Chorro during the spring season. The house was still a little cool, but we found tons of wood to use the chimney, and greatly enjoyed the cosy nights at the fireplace. At arrival there was also enough food in the fridge to get us started. We felt at home from the first minute, and never missed anything.

The house is indicated for 4 people and staying there with a group of 6 was challenging sometimes, but it can be managed. Next time we would probably bring warmer comforters for the extra 2 people (the one in the house are great) because it does get cold in the night during spring.

It is true that the neighbourhood gets a noisy sometimes, but this is a townhouse after all.

Glynis really made sure we had everything we needed, helped us to navigate the small street of the town, advised where to park the car, where to find shops and restaurants etc. Admittedly, it took us a couple of days before we could find our way without making mistakes, but the charm of this real authentic town made it always a fun adventure.

If you are here for climbing you will know where to spend your days! It takes about a half an hour to get to the parking areas of El Chorro. If you would like to get a nose full of Spain, the daily commute is definitely worthwhile . During our break day we visited Alhambra in Granada (and we all loved it), make sure you reserve your tickets ahead of time online.

We hope we will come again soon!
